Understanding the authority given to believers in Christ is essential for living a victorious Christian life. Authority is not just about having access to God’s power, but about receiving His permission to use that power to bring change, healing, and freedom. Many Christians possess the Holy Spirit but do not walk in the fullness of their authority, leaving the power of God locked up within them. When you grasp the authority that comes from Christ, you are empowered to confront spiritual opposition, minister to others, and see God’s kingdom advance in your life and community. [01:05:00]
1 Corinthians 16:13-14 (ESV)
Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.
Reflection: Where in your life do you need to step out and exercise the authority Christ has given you, rather than waiting for someone else to act on your behalf?
The struggles we face are not merely physical or relational, but deeply spiritual. The Bible reveals that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers, and spiritual forces of wickedness. These unseen entities seek to disrupt families, sow division, and keep believers from walking in their God-given authority. Recognizing the true nature of the battle helps us to stop blaming people and circumstances, and instead to take up the spiritual weapons God has provided, standing firm in prayer and faith. [01:18:28]
Ephesians 6:12 (ESV)
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
Reflection: Think of a recent conflict or struggle—how might your response change if you saw it as a spiritual battle rather than just a human disagreement?
From the Garden of Eden to the Tower of Babel, humanity’s rebellion against God has brought about catastrophic consequences—sin, death, division, and the rise of corrupt cultures. Yet, God’s desire is not for us to rely on our own good or evil works, but to walk in His works, empowered by His Spirit. The knowledge of good and evil leads to self-reliance or despair, but God calls us to a relationship with Him, where His works flow through us and bring true transformation. [01:11:32]
Genesis 3:4-10 (ESV)
But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths. And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.”
Reflection: Are you relying on your own good works or evil works to find acceptance, or are you seeking to walk in God’s works and His presence today?
When believers gather together, the presence and power of the Holy Spirit is magnified, creating an atmosphere where miracles, healing, and transformation can take place. The church is not just a collection of individuals, but a living temple where God dwells corporately. In this environment, you can receive what you need from God—breakthrough, healing, or restoration—by simply reaching out in faith, just as the woman with the issue of blood touched the hem of Jesus’ garment. The corporate anointing is a gift; don’t take it for granted, but come expectant and ready to encounter God. [01:25:05]
Acts 2:1-4 (ESV)
When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Reflection: When you gather with other believers, do you come expecting to encounter God’s presence and receive from Him, or do you take the corporate anointing for granted?
Jesus Christ has broken the power of death, sin, and every curse of the enemy through His death and resurrection. He has given His followers authority over all the power of the enemy, calling us to walk in victory and to reverse the works of darkness in our lives and communities. This authority is not reserved for a select few, but is available to every believer who receives the revelation of what Christ has accomplished. As you grow in this revelation, you will find yourself moving in greater confidence, freedom, and effectiveness for God’s kingdom. [01:55:16]
Luke 10:19 (ESV)
Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you need to intentionally exercise the authority Jesus has given you, trusting in His victory over the enemy?
Today, we gathered to honor the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, to lift up the name of Jesus, and to recognize the unique calling and authority God has placed on each of our lives. We reflected on the journey of faith, the cost of following Christ, and the resilience required to walk through seasons of suffering and spiritual battle. Drawing from 1 Corinthians 16:13-14, we were reminded to be watchful, stand firm in faith, act with courage, and let everything be done in love—a call to true spiritual maturity.
We explored the deep threads of Scripture, tracing three catastrophic events in Genesis that have shaped humanity’s spiritual landscape: the fall in the garden, the corruption of humanity by the “sons of God” in Genesis 6, and the scattering at Babel. Each event revealed how spiritual forces have influenced human culture, relationships, and even our understanding of good and evil. Yet, through it all, God’s desire has always been to dwell with His people, to restore what was lost, and to empower us with His authority.
A key revelation is that knowledge of the Word alone is not enough; it is the revelation and application of God’s Word that brings transformation and authority. The authority we have in Christ is not just permission to use His power, but a mandate to confront spiritual forces, break generational cycles, and establish God’s kingdom culture in our lives and communities. We are not called to be passive or codependent, but to rise up as mature sons and daughters, exercising the authority Jesus won for us on the cross.
We also witnessed how the corporate anointing—when believers gather in unity and faith—magnifies the presence and power of God. Testimonies of healing, deliverance, and encounters with the Holy Spirit remind us that God is moving in our midst, often in ways we do not fully understand. The invitation is open: to step into deeper revelation, to receive the authority of Christ, and to allow the Holy Spirit to do a transformative work in us and through us.
1 Corinthians 16:13-14 (ESV) — > Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.
Genesis 3:1-10 (ESV) — > (The Fall – Adam and Eve’s disobedience and hiding from God)
Ephesians 6:10-13 (ESV) — > Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
The revelation of God will change your life. Right back in 1975, when I found the Lord, I was a druggie, gangster, you name it. I was actually into it, heavily involved. And I had an encounter with God in the middle of an LSD trip, Easter Friday night, round about midnight in 1975. I had a supernatural encounter with God. I'd only been to church once before in my whole life. No Christians in my family. No believers in my family at all. In fact, my family were more involved in the other side, in witchcraft. And my grandma and my aunties, they're all reading tea leaves and into all of that sort of stuff. And I had a supernatural encounter with God, a life-changing encounter with the Lord. [01:01:41] (46 seconds) #TransformingEncounter
Because when the revelation of God comes and the freedom of God comes, what actually happened? If you go back, you will be addicted. I had a lot of friends that got saved during that time. And they went back in the drugs and that. And I do believe it's almost like seven times worse. The first time God will deliver you, like you just get free. If you stand in that freedom, you can maintain it your whole life. I believe that. If you go back, then you're going to have a battle on your hands. [01:03:20] (28 seconds) #StandFirmInFreedom
I want you to understand the authority, the kingdom authority that you have in Christ Jesus. I really want you to understand the authority that God has actually given us in Christ Jesus, because the authority is the permission that God gives for you to use the power. Right? So it says you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. So we receive the Holy Spirit. We receive the power of God. We know that we know those scriptures. We receive the Holy Spirit. But I want to tell you the power of God can be locked up if you don't have the authority of God to use the power. [01:05:34] (41 seconds) #AuthorityUnlocksPower
The Lord says the Lord says you will crush snakes and scorpions underneath your feet I have given you authority over all the enemy's power. You'll crush snakes and scorpions and nothing by any means will do you harm. See, the body, we've got to grow up. We've got to grow up. If you want to get into really exciting biblical, spiritual, supernatural lifestyle, you've got to start laying hold of the spirit of God and exercising your authority over the enemy. [01:43:22] (30 seconds) #CrushEnemyAuthority
What's going on? I mean, you can tear each other apart with an argument like that. You don't even know why you're arguing. I'll tell you why you're arguing because these spiritual entities are coming in around your family trying to break the covenant bond that you've made. And these spiritual forces, that covenant bond that you make with the Lord Jesus Christ when you surrender your life completely over to him, become a son and daughter of God. You don't think the enemy's going to try and come and sever those cords and break that relationship? [01:44:26] (32 seconds) #ProtectCovenantBonds
You didn't just come up with all these things that you did in your past life. There were spiritual forces. That's why he said you're not wrestling flesh and blood but principalities and powers. I hope you're laying hold of this because the culture that was created around the nations was created by the sons of God that were in rebellion to God. So when you come into the kingdom of God, there's a kingdom culture. [01:53:00] (32 seconds) #KingdomCultureConflict
Do you realize that when the Lord returns and he dwells amongst us, you know what he does? He reverses everything the enemy has done. And we go, what do you mean he reverses? Well, there's going to be no more sickness came from the enemy, no more depression, no more murder. It says in the Bible, no more tears, no more discouragement, no more poverty, no more lack, no more shortage, no more loneliness, no more insecurity, no more doubt. What is he doing? What does the kingdom of God do when the king comes and comes back for his kingdom? What does he do? He reverses every single curse of the enemy. He puts the world right. He puts us all right. [01:53:33] (51 seconds) #KingdomReversesCurses
If you don't understand the big picture of what's happened in the world, you'll never fully understand the authority you're meant to have in your life now and how to exercise it over the enemy. You'll never truly understand that when Jesus Christ went to that cross, he died and he was resurrected from the dead and he broke the power of death over our lives. So we're going to live forever, that we're going to be resurrected, live forever. You won't understand that he gave you authority over the principalities and powers and the spiritual forces of darkness. [01:54:34] (35 seconds) #ResurrectedAuthority
See, it's time now that we lay hold of that as the church and begin to walk and live and exercise that. Yeah, I tell you, I get excited about it because what you'll find with the men and women of God that have been around and learned about these things, they walk in authority. Just look at, Brent comes in, he's not saying, are you going to get healed? Will you get healed? Let's hope God heals some people today. He's just walking in the authority that he knows he has and prays healing over people's lives. But sitting in the pews, you may not feel that same confidence. The reason is because you've got to get the revelation. You've got to get the revelation of the authority that Jesus Christ died for you to have. [01:55:08] (46 seconds) #WalkInDivineAuthority
If there's anyone here this morning you know and you have never had that supernatural encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ that that life-changing moment when you know that you know that Jesus Christ forgave you for your sin and entered into your life and you you experience that transforming presence of God coming in your life and if you you might be just visiting this morning maybe friends said there's a crazy guy from Christchurch come in and come along and have a listen and if that's you this morning you've never had that supernatural encounter like I'd like you all to stand and the the worship team's going to sing something but if that's you I want to just invite you forward I just want to pray with you I promise you that we won't embarrass you in any way shape or form but all we want to do is just give you an opportunity to meet the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords the one who's so radically changed our lives and can so radically change yours we just want to give you that opportunity.
