Embracing Worship and Prayer in Daily Life

Summary

### Summary

Good morning, everyone. It's wonderful to be here with my family, worshiping and praying together. Today, we continue our series, "I Love My Church," focusing on the importance of worship and prayer in our lives. We are God's chosen tool to make Him known to the lost and broken world around us, and it's humbling to think that He has chosen us for this purpose.

We began by reflecting on the early church's devotion to teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayer, as described in Acts 2:42-47. Last week, we discussed the importance of building a strong community within our church. Today, we shift our focus to our relationship with the Lord through worship and prayer.

Worship is not just about singing songs; it's a heart posture and focus. Colossians 3:16-17 teaches us to let the word of Christ dwell in us richly, to teach and admonish one another, and to sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with thankfulness in our hearts. Worship should permeate every aspect of our lives, from reading scripture to our daily interactions.

Prayer, on the other hand, is like a phone call to our best friend, God. It allows us to share our worries, seek advice, and enjoy His company. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 encourages us to rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and give thanks in all circumstances. Prayer is a conversation with God, and it's essential for experiencing His comfort, guidance, and presence.

To help you grow in your worship and prayer life, we will provide you with a journal to use at home. This journal will guide you in focusing your worship and prayer times. Remember, worship and prayer are not confined to Sunday mornings; they should be a daily practice.

Let's commit to incorporating worship and prayer into our daily lives. Make a commitment to worship the Lord through your actions, music, and prayer. Encourage one another in worship and prayer, and let others see you worshiping the Lord through your actions. Together, we can strengthen our personal and corporate worship and prayer, and be the church that God has called us to be.

### Key Takeaways

1. Worship as a Heart Posture: Worship is not limited to singing songs; it is a heart posture that should permeate every aspect of our lives. Whether we are reading scripture, working, or interacting with others, our hearts should be focused on worshiping the Lord. This holistic approach to worship helps us to honor God in all that we do. [09:49]

2. The Importance of Daily Scripture Reading: Letting the word of Christ dwell in us richly requires daily engagement with scripture. This goes beyond quick devotionals or verse-of-the-day apps. It involves immersing ourselves in God's word, allowing it to wash over us and transform our hearts and minds. [12:57]

3. Prayer as a Conversation with God: Prayer is a two-way conversation with God, our best friend. It allows us to experience His comfort, guidance, and presence. By using the ACTS model (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication), we can structure our prayers in a way that draws us closer to God and helps us understand His will for our lives. [29:03]

4. Living Out Worship and Prayer Daily: Incorporating worship and prayer into our daily lives requires intentionality. This includes making a commitment to worship the Lord through our actions, music, and prayer. By changing our heart focus from "I have to" to "I get to," we can transform our daily tasks into acts of worship. [43:54]

5. Encouraging One Another in Worship and Prayer: As a church, we should encourage one another in worship and prayer. This involves letting others know that we are praying for them and reminding each other of the importance of worship. By doing so, we can build a stronger, more supportive spiritual family. [47:31]

Devotional

Day 1: Worship as a Heart Posture
Worship is not limited to singing songs; it is a heart posture that should permeate every aspect of our lives. Whether we are reading scripture, working, or interacting with others, our hearts should be focused on worshiping the Lord. This holistic approach to worship helps us to honor God in all that we do. Worship is about aligning our hearts with God's will and expressing our love and reverence for Him in everything we do. It is a continuous act of devotion that goes beyond the walls of the church and into our daily lives. [09:49]

Colossians 3:16-17 (ESV): "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."

Reflection: How can you shift your daily activities to be acts of worship? Identify one routine task and consciously perform it as an act of worship to God today.

Day 2: The Importance of Daily Scripture Reading
Letting the word of Christ dwell in us richly requires daily engagement with scripture. This goes beyond quick devotionals or verse-of-the-day apps. It involves immersing ourselves in God's word, allowing it to wash over us and transform our hearts and minds. Daily scripture reading is essential for spiritual growth and understanding God's will for our lives. It helps us to stay grounded in our faith and equips us to face the challenges of life with a Christ-centered perspective. [12:57]

Joshua 1:8 (ESV): "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success."

Reflection: What specific time each day can you dedicate to immersing yourself in God's word? Set a reminder and commit to this time for the next week.

Day 3: Prayer as a Conversation with God
Prayer is a two-way conversation with God, our best friend. It allows us to experience His comfort, guidance, and presence. By using the ACTS model (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication), we can structure our prayers in a way that draws us closer to God and helps us understand His will for our lives. Prayer is not just about asking for things; it is about building a relationship with God and seeking His presence in our lives. [29:03]

Jeremiah 33:3 (ESV): "Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known."

Reflection: How can you incorporate the ACTS model into your prayer life today? Spend a few minutes in each section (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) and notice how it changes your conversation with God.

Day 4: Living Out Worship and Prayer Daily
Incorporating worship and prayer into our daily lives requires intentionality. This includes making a commitment to worship the Lord through our actions, music, and prayer. By changing our heart focus from "I have to" to "I get to," we can transform our daily tasks into acts of worship. Living out worship and prayer daily means being mindful of God's presence in every moment and seeking to honor Him in all that we do. It is about making worship and prayer a natural part of our daily routine. [43:54]

Romans 12:1 (ESV): "I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship."

Reflection: What is one area of your life where you can shift your perspective from "I have to" to "I get to" as an act of worship? Make a conscious effort to change your mindset in this area today.

Day 5: Encouraging One Another in Worship and Prayer
As a church, we should encourage one another in worship and prayer. This involves letting others know that we are praying for them and reminding each other of the importance of worship. By doing so, we can build a stronger, more supportive spiritual family. Encouraging one another in worship and prayer helps to create a sense of community and accountability, fostering spiritual growth and unity within the church. [47:31]

Hebrews 10:24-25 (ESV): "And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near."

Reflection: Who in your church community can you encourage in their worship and prayer life today? Reach out to them with a message of support and let them know you are praying for them.

5. "The only way for that to happen is if you're reading the word of God daily. Like actually, listen, actually reading the word of God daily. I'm not talking about the verse of the day app. I'm not talking about the daily bread booklet. Those are great if you're starting out, but if you've been a Christian, if you've been a Christian for more than a year, it's time to, it's time to step up and actually read the word of God daily." Seeing every task as an opportunity to honor God." [25:26] (34 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

7. "Prayer is a conversation with God. Do you understand that prayer is a conversation with God? Like it really is. I've talked about this in the past. I've kind of talked about this before about prayer being a conversation, a two-way street, right? I've talked about this. We see it modeled for us by Jesus himself as he prays to the Father throughout Scripture, right?" [29:03] (25 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

9. "When we strengthen our personal worship and prayer, then you're strengthening our corporate worship and prayer. And that's what's awesome. 10. "Let's make a commitment to not listen, to any other music other than Christian music for one month. I'm not saying that non-Christian music is bad. Man, I love rock and roll. I love country music. Okay? I'm not saying it's bad stuff. I'm just saying let's make a commitment to only listen to Christian music just for a month. Let's see what happens. Let's see how Christian music affects our heart and affects our minds as a church body." [44:58] (32 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)
