Embracing Unique Gifts for the Body of Christ
Summary
In my sermon, I discussed the division of gifts in the church, emphasizing that each gift is important and should be used for the edification of the body of Christ. I urged Christians not to think highly or lowly of their gifts, but rather be faithful and seek to fulfill their gift in love for God and others. I acknowledged the complexity of discussing the various gifts and instead focused on understanding the general concept of gifts and how to determine one's own gifting. I also highlighted that the gifts are given in diversity by the Holy Spirit.
I stressed the importance of preparation and study for effective service, and that it is unrealistic to expect someone who has not prepared to suddenly be granted the gift of evangelism. However, if someone recognizes the value of sharing the gospel and actively seeks to learn and share it, it is understandable for God to open opportunities for them to use their gifts. I shared my belief that God's work in my life has led to my current position as a pastor and that the same can happen for any believer who recognizes their spiritual gifts.
I emphasized that individuals are not meant to be identical and conform to a specific mold. Each person is predestined to be formed in the image of Christ, but the manifestation of this image will vary based on personal growth and sanctification. I encouraged the audience to embrace their unique personalities and perspectives when using their gifts. I also clarified that the gift of the Holy Spirit refers to the indwelling of the Spirit, while the gifts of the Spirit are the abilities given to believers by the Holy Spirit.
Key Takeaways:
- Each person has a unique gift that complements others in the body of Christ. It is important for every believer to use their gift and not neglect it. These gifts are given by the Holy Spirit as a grace. ([12:45])
- The gifts given to individuals are meant for the common good and to build up the body of Christ. They are not intended for personal fame or wealth, but rather to strengthen and grow the church. ([34:20])
- The gift of the Holy Spirit refers to the indwelling of the Spirit, while the gifts of the Spirit are the abilities given to believers by the Holy Spirit. The fruits of the Spirit are the visible effects produced in a person's life when they live according to the Spirit and the will of God. ([45:30])
- All gifts are supernatural and equally important in achieving a common purpose for the good of the community. There is no hierarchy of gifts in God's eyes. ([56:10])
- The word "karisma" means grace gift, derived from the root word "karice" which also means grace. It is a gift given by God's unmerited favor and should be used and not buried. The gifts are manifestations of the Holy Spirit and allow believers to experience the presence of God. ([1:10:15])

Devotional
Day 1: The Necessity of Spiritual Preparation
Spiritual gifts are not spontaneously granted without any preparation. They are given by God, but they require our active participation in learning, growing, and understanding. God implants in us a desire to learn and share what we've learned, but we must first develop the gift. This is especially true for those called to teach or preach the gospel. (Reference: [01:06:12])
2 Timothy 2:15 - "Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth."
Reflection: Reflect on your spiritual gifts. How are you actively preparing and developing these gifts?
Day 2: Embracing Our Unique Spiritual Gifts
God has created us uniquely, and our spiritual gifts reflect this diversity. We are not meant to be identical in our expressions of faith or our spiritual gifts. Each person will act out their gifts with a unique personality and perspective, and this diversity is a gift from the Holy Spirit. (Reference: [47:10])
Romans 12:6 - "We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith."
Reflection: How does your unique personality and perspective influence the way you express your spiritual gifts?
Day 3: Spiritual Gifts for the Benefit of the Body
Our spiritual gifts are not given for our personal benefit, but for the benefit of the body of Christ. When we respond to God's call and use our gifts, it strengthens the entire community of believers. (Reference: [01:02:07])
1 Peter 4:10 - "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms."
Reflection: How are you using your spiritual gifts to serve and strengthen the body of Christ?
Day 4: Developing Our Spiritual Gifts
Our spiritual gifts are not temporary or situational, but require ongoing development and use. We must be diligent in cultivating our gifts and using them to serve God and others. (Reference: [01:03:35])
1 Timothy 4:14 - "Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you."
Reflection: How are you actively developing and using your spiritual gifts?
Day 5: Faithfulness in Our Spiritual Gifts
Each spiritual gift is needed and valuable in the body of Christ. We are called to be faithful in using the gifts God has given us, and to do so with love for God and others. (Reference: [45:05])
1 Corinthians 12:7 - "Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good."
Reflection: How are you being faithful in using your spiritual gifts for the common good?

2. "Just as every gospel was written with a personality and a perspective, every person is going to act out whatever gifts God has given them with a personality and a perspective, and you need to lean into that recognizing that it was a gift given in diversity given by the holy spirit of God in order to fit a particular need in the place that you're in." [47:52]
3. "All of the gifts are Supernatural, all of them are given supernaturally and each of them is as powerful or as special or as pertinent as the next when they are appropriately employed." [39:04]
4. "If you're a part of the house of God, you're part of the family of God, and you're not serving in some capacity, you are neglecting the gift that God has given you." [56:28]
5. "The gifts of the Spirit and the fruits of the spirit are two different things...the gift of the Holy Spirit is the indwelling, the gifts of the Holy Spirit are the enablement given by the Holy Spirit, and the fruits of the spirit are notable or visible effects produced or witnessed in us while living a life according to the spirit." [37:19]
