Embracing True Life Through Christ's Resurrection

Summary

Truly being alive is a question that has intrigued humanity for centuries. While pop culture offers various interpretations, from the Bee Gees' "Staying Alive" to Empire of the Sun's "Alive," these notions often fall short of the deeper, spiritual understanding of life. True life, as we explore today, is not about living in a fantasy or a dream but about experiencing the fullness of life that God offers through Jesus Christ. Many have pondered the meaning of life, with some attributing it to mere accidents of the universe. However, the improbability of life forming by chance points us to a Creator who not only gives physical life but also offers spiritual life.

The resurrection of Jesus is central to understanding true life. It signifies that God can bring us back to life, just as He did with Jesus. This is not just a historical event but a present reality that offers us new life. In 1 Corinthians 15, Paul reminds us of the gospel's power, emphasizing that Jesus' resurrection is the cornerstone of our faith. This resurrection means that death, our greatest enemy, has been defeated. The victory over death is not just a future promise but a present reality that transforms how we live today.

Moreover, Jesus' resurrection offers life to all who receive Him. This new life is not about achieving worldly dreams but about living in a relationship with God, experiencing His love, and being part of His eternal kingdom. The resurrection is a historical fact, witnessed by many, and it assures us of the abundant life Jesus promised. This life is characterized by joy, peace, and a deep connection with God and fellow believers.

As we reflect on these truths, the question remains: Have you received this new life? Jesus offers it freely, and it is up to us to accept it. This Easter, may we embrace the life that Jesus offers, a life that is truly alive in every sense.

This understanding invites us to seek the deeper meaning of life beyond mere physical existence. As we ponder the origins of life, we are encouraged to look beyond the material world and consider the spiritual dimensions that give life its true significance. The intricate balance and harmony found in nature and within ourselves are not mere coincidences but reflections of a Creator's intentional design. [05:00]

"For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him." (Colossians 1:16, ESV)

Quotes

``Thank you so much for being here with us. A very special morning for us as a church and as a family, and we're all family. Amen? Amen. Well, truly alive. Truly alive. What does it mean to be truly alive? [00:00:00] (17 seconds) Edit Clip

But it's also true that God is not only the author of physical life, but He's the only one who can offer spiritual life as well to truly live in that way. So today as we walk through our passage, a few short verses before us this morning, we're going to see three different reasons that you can be truly alive this Easter. Three reasons that you can experience the true life God has in mind for you. Amen? Amen. [00:05:28] (31 seconds) Edit Clip

Well, like I said, there are three different reasons that we can be truly alive this Easter. And the first reason is this. Jesus' resurrection means God can bring you back to life as well. Because Jesus was risen from the grave, God can do the same thing in your life as well. I'd like you to open with me if you've got your copy of God's Word. We are going to be in 1 Corinthians chapter 15. [00:05:50] (30 seconds) Edit Clip

He had to go everywhere he could to tell them the good news that Jesus is alive and you can experience new life as well. Paul did it near. He shared the gospel far. He traveled all the way to Greece and shared the gospel. So many people became Christians in that place. They said, let's start a church right here. Paul planted that church and he went back home. And about four years later, he wrote this letter to help them to understand how to be a healthy church God's way. [00:07:17] (31 seconds) Edit Clip

Rising again on the third day. And offering salvation to everyone who will place their faith in Him. That's a summary of the gospel. The good news. And Paul went around and proclaimed that. And the people who received it and stood in it were the people that God saved. There's actually four steps to that message of the gospel getting into the hearts of believers. First, he says, I preached to you. That's the first step. The gospel being preached or shared with someone. [00:08:57] (32 seconds) Edit Clip

The second thing that happened was they received it. They heard the good news about Jesus and they said, I receive that. I believe that. The third thing it says is in which you stand. The third step is that we receive it and we say, that's my new identity. That is the truth that I am standing in. And the fourth thing that happens, by a miracle of God, verse 2 tells us that it's that gospel by which you are being saved. This is a message that has saving power for each one of us. [00:09:57] (34 seconds) Edit Clip

God is the one who loves you, who has sought you out, come to the place where you are, and offers to you the free gift of salvation. Actually, it wasn't free. The paid-for gift of salvation that Jesus paid for at the cross. We have that imitation from God. Jesus' resurrection means that God can bring you back to life as well. But there's another reason. There is another reason that you can be truly alive. [00:11:45] (32 seconds) Edit Clip

Not only did God bring you back to life, or can he bring you back to life, but Jesus has defeated our greatest enemy, the enemy of death. Jesus' resurrection means that death has been defeated. Now, we say that in a service on a Sunday morning. But many of us understand all too well the threat that death is. Our greatest opponent. In the Wood family, over this last week, one of our neighbors, one of the men on our street, passed away this last week. [00:12:14] (39 seconds) Edit Clip

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received. Here's his summary of the gospel, that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures. This was prophesied about, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures. That was prophesied about as well. Can have true life by receiving him if you have received it are you standing in it are you living with that gospel as your current reality your current status before god that he has given you new life. [00:14:38] (129 seconds) Edit Clip

The life that we're talking about is the life where you can talk with God personally and have Him speak to you through His Word and guide you through life. The life we're talking about is the life where no matter what comes your way in life, you can have joy because God loves you. He reached out His hand to tell you that He loves you, to forgive you, to give you new life because He delights in you and because of what Jesus did at the cross. [00:24:46] (33 seconds) Edit Clip
