Embracing Trials: The Power of Prayer and Forgiveness
Devotional
Day 1: Prayer as a Divine Connection
Prayer is a vital practice that connects us to God, allowing us to align with His will and receive His guidance and strength. It is not merely a ritual but a powerful tool that equips us to face spiritual battles. Through prayer, we open ourselves to divine help, enabling us to navigate life's challenges with God's wisdom and support. As we engage in prayer, we are reminded of the importance of staying connected to God, especially during difficult times. This connection empowers us to overcome obstacles and grow in our spiritual journey. [58:18]
"Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison." (Colossians 4:2-3, ESV)
Reflection: How can you incorporate a specific time for prayer into your daily routine to strengthen your connection with God?
Day 2: Trials as Preparation for Glory
The trials and pain we endure are not without purpose; they are essential for our growth and preparation for future glory. Joseph's journey from slavery to leadership in Egypt exemplifies how God uses our struggles to build our character and capacity for greater things. These challenges are the tuition we pay for the manifestation of our glory. By enduring trials with faith, we allow God to shape us for His greater purpose, trusting that our hardships are part of His divine plan. [11:14]
"In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ." (1 Peter 1:6-7, ESV)
Reflection: What current trial are you facing, and how can you view it as a preparation for something greater that God has planned for you?
Day 3: The Liberating Power of Forgiveness
Forgiveness is crucial for receiving divine help and achieving our full potential. Joseph's ability to forgive his brothers was a pivotal moment in his journey to greatness. Holding onto bitterness and malice can hinder us from moving forward and fulfilling our destiny. By letting go of past hurts and extending forgiveness, we open ourselves to God's healing and guidance, allowing us to progress in our spiritual journey and embrace the future He has for us. [20:17]
"Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." (Colossians 3:13, ESV)
Reflection: Is there someone you need to forgive today? How can you take a step towards releasing bitterness and embracing forgiveness?
Day 4: Faithfulness in Everyday Actions
Our everyday actions, when done with faithfulness and excellence, can lead to extraordinary outcomes. Joseph's consistent diligence in small tasks eventually led to his elevation to prime minister. This teaches us the importance of being faithful in the ordinary aspects of life, trusting that God will use our efforts for His greater purpose. By committing to excellence in our daily responsibilities, we position ourselves for the extraordinary plans God has for us. [43:01]
"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ." (Colossians 3:23-24, ESV)
Reflection: What is one ordinary task you can approach with renewed faithfulness and excellence today, trusting that God will use it for His purpose?
Day 5: Trusting in Divine Timing
God's timing is perfect, and He uses our waiting periods to prepare us for the future. The years Joseph spent in trials were necessary for God to build his character and capacity for leadership. Trusting in divine timing means believing that God is at work even when we cannot see immediate results. As we wait, we are encouraged to remain faithful and patient, knowing that God is preparing us for the roles and responsibilities He has planned for us. [24:19]
"For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay." (Habakkuk 2:3, ESV)
Reflection: In what area of your life do you need to trust God's timing, and how can you practice patience and faithfulness during this waiting period?
Sermon Summary
In today's gathering, we explored the profound significance of prayer and divine help in our lives. Reflecting on the story of Joseph from Genesis 49, we delved into the journey of a man who, despite facing immense trials, rose to a position of great influence and power. Joseph's life is a testament to the fact that everyone, regardless of their current circumstances, needs help at some point. This help often comes from God, who is always ready to guide us through our challenges if we remain connected to Him.
We emphasized the importance of prayer as a cornerstone of our spiritual lives. Prayer is not just a ritual but a powerful tool that connects us to the divine, enabling us to navigate the spiritual battles we face. As a community, we are encouraged to join the prayer line and participate in the upcoming prayer and word conference, where we will seek God's guidance and blessings for the year ahead.
Joseph's story also teaches us about the necessity of enduring pain and trials as a preparation for future glory. His journey from being sold into slavery to becoming the prime minister of Egypt illustrates how God uses our struggles to build our character and capacity for greater things. The trials we face are not in vain; they are the tuition we pay for the manifestation of our glory.
Moreover, we discussed the importance of forgiveness and letting go of bitterness. Joseph's ability to forgive his brothers was crucial in his journey to greatness. Holding onto malice and unforgiveness can hinder us from receiving divine help and achieving our full potential.
Finally, we are reminded that our ordinary actions, when done with faithfulness and excellence, have the potential to lead to extraordinary outcomes. Just as Joseph's consistent faithfulness in small tasks led to his elevation, we too must be diligent in our daily lives, trusting that God will use our efforts for His greater purpose.

You can tell the temperature of a church from the people who pray. I don't want us to be a church that's just a social gathering because the power of any—this is the way Jesus puts it, he was quoting, I forgot, Isaiah—he said my house shall be called a what? House of Prayer. [00:58:08]
Because we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, because the forces that we encounter or we contend with on this Earth, they are not normal, they are spiritual agents. So you need to enter the spiritual realm to deal with those forces. [00:58:48]
Joseph's story is a testament to the fact that everyone, regardless of their current circumstances, needs help at some point. This help often comes from God, who is always ready to guide us through our challenges if we remain connected to Him. [01:09:12]
Pain is the tuition you pay for the manifestation of your glory. The Bible says it says that our light afflictions are only for a moment. Do not despise your pain, do not trade your pain for malleable gain because your pain is necessary to prepare you for the place of glory. [01:12:21]
Your tears are relevant in the presence of God. Let me show you two Bible passages. Look at Isaiah 53:3. Jesus Christ was despised and rejected by men. He was a man of what? Of sorrows, acquainted with grief. When you go through your sorrow, I want you to understand that Jesus Christ has been where you are. [01:14:42]
Joseph had a painful history. Joseph had a story that was as grievous and gruesome as it could be. And sometimes when people look at you, like sometimes, particularly on first Sundays of the month when people are dressed in resplendent, and you know they have all the best cologne and perfumes, we do not know that behind some of this resplendent, behind some of this splendor, there is pain and agony and grief. [01:20:17]
Joseph was thrown in the pit. Somebody has said that the pit in which he was thrown, the word pit is actually prophet in training. If you have found yourself in the pit right now, you are only undergoing your tutelage for elevation by God. [01:24:19]
There are always incremental steps, incremental steps, increment. And listen, there is really—we say that all the time—but there's no magical single moment. There's no magical single. Every magical moment is an aggregated magical moment. They are incremental magical moments, ordinary moments that were magical in their potential, preparing you for the magical moment that was extraordinary. [01:31:45]
The spectacular things God will do for us in 2025 are going to be built in the ordinariness of our everyday existence. So Joseph became Prime Minister. And how did he become Prime Minister? Number one, we saw that's the giant leap we see in his life. [01:38:11]
Joseph at that stage, he had already forgiven his brothers. That is why he did not say, "My God punish my brothers. My brothers were the one who sold me." He took away blame from them and said, "I was stolen from the land of Egypt." [01:20:17]
You will never get divine help until you get to a place where you expunge malice, bitterness, and unforgiveness from your heart. Joseph here said, "I was stolen." He says it goes on, he said, "But remember me." [01:24:19]
The word of the Lord was still testing him. Remember I read for you Genesis Chapter 18 verse 4. He said, "Is anything too hard for God?" He said, "At the appointed time." The reason why you may be in suspended animation, the reason why you are in a state of uncertainty, the reason why you are in a state of seeming stagnation is because the appointed time has not come.
