When the Holy Spirit is present in a believer’s life, transformation is not a possibility but a certainty. Change is the natural byproduct of God’s Spirit dwelling within us, and though it may not always be immediate or dramatic, it is inevitable. Sometimes we may miss the evidence of this change because our focus is on the wrong things, but God’s promise is sure: what He begins, He will bring to completion. If you are in Christ, you can trust that the Spirit is at work, shaping you more and more into the likeness of Jesus, even when the process feels slow or difficult. [01:15]
Philippians 1:6 (ESV)
"And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ."
Reflection: Where have you seen—even in small ways—the Holy Spirit changing you over time? Can you thank God for one area of growth today, even if it feels unfinished?
Paul’s ministry in Ephesus was marked by extraordinary miracles, but the true source of this fruit was not Paul’s talent or desire for power—it was his deep intimacy and reliance on God. Paul did not seek the miracles themselves; his greatest desire was to know and walk with God. When our hearts are set on God’s presence rather than just His blessings, real fruit—evidence of God’s work—will naturally follow. The focus must always be on the Giver, not just the gifts, for it is the presence of the Holy Spirit that produces lasting change and impact. [14:20]
Acts 19:11-12 (ESV)
"And God was doing extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul, so that even handkerchiefs or aprons that had touched his skin were carried away to the sick, and their diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them."
Reflection: What is your deepest desire in your walk with God—His presence, or His blessings? How might you shift your focus today to seek Him above all else?
The seven sons of Sceva tried to use the name of Jesus for power without submitting to Jesus as Lord, seeking the results without the relationship. Their attempt ended in humiliation, showing that desiring the fruit without surrender leads only to empty performance and spiritual emptiness. It is possible to go through the motions of faith, saying and doing the right things, yet miss the real transformation that comes from genuine surrender. God is not interested in our pretending; He desires our hearts, and only when we truly belong to Him do we find our true identity and authority. [20:09]
Acts 19:13-16 (ESV)
"Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists undertook to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, 'I adjure you by the Jesus whom Paul proclaims.' Seven sons of a Jewish high priest named Sceva were doing this. But the evil spirit answered them, 'Jesus I know, and Paul I recognize, but who are you?' And the man in whom was the evil spirit leaped on them, mastered all of them and overpowered them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded."
Reflection: Is there any area of your life where you are “performing” for God or others instead of truly surrendering? What would it look like to bring that area honestly before God today?
When the believers in Ephesus were convicted by the Holy Spirit, they brought their most valuable possessions—books of magic arts—and burned them publicly, regardless of the cost or what others might think. This act of surrender was not about appearances or gaining something, but about removing anything that stood between them and intimacy with God. True transformation comes when we are willing to lay down whatever competes for our hearts, trusting that what God offers is far better. Surrender is costly, but it leads to freedom, healing, and a deeper experience of God’s presence. [33:41]
Acts 19:17-20 (ESV)
"And this became known to all the residents of Ephesus, both Jews and Greeks. And fear fell upon them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was extolled. Also many of those who were now believers came, confessing and divulging their practices. And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted the value of them and found it came to fifty thousand pieces of silver. So the word of the Lord continued to increase and prevail mightily."
Reflection: What is your “book”—the thing you are holding back from God? What step could you take today to surrender it, trusting God with the outcome?
As the gospel transformed lives in Ephesus, opposition arose in the form of confusion, chaos, and fear—spiritual warfare stirred up by those whose hearts were set on other gods. The enemy does not mind if we pretend to be Christians, but he fiercely resists real surrender and transformation. When you take steps of obedience and surrender, expect resistance, but remember that God’s power is greater. The Holy Spirit invites you to lay down your fears, doubts, and anything that holds you back—not to shame you, but to set you free and bring you into deeper intimacy with Him. [44:17]
Ephesians 6:12 (ESV)
"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places."
Reflection: Where are you experiencing resistance or fear as you seek to follow Jesus more fully? How can you invite the Holy Spirit to give you courage and assurance in that area today?
When the Holy Spirit is present in our lives, transformation is not a possibility—it’s a certainty. The Spirit’s presence always brings change, and that change is not something we manufacture or perform; it is the natural outflow of God’s work within us. Yet, it’s easy to miss or resist this transformation when our desires are misplaced. Like athletes who love the game but not the training, we can crave the results of faith—blessing, impact, fruit—without truly desiring the presence of God Himself. The story in Acts 19 shows us the difference between those who seek God for who He is and those who only want what He can give.
Paul’s ministry in Ephesus was marked by extraordinary miracles, but these were not the result of Paul’s ambition or desire for power. Instead, they flowed from his deep intimacy and reliance on God. Paul’s focus was never on the miracles themselves, but on knowing Christ and being surrendered to Him. The fruit was real because the desire was right. In contrast, the sons of Sceva tried to wield the name of Jesus without submitting to Him. They wanted the power without the relationship, and their efforts ended in humiliation and emptiness. This is a warning: when we desire the fruit more than the presence, we end up performing, pretending, and missing the real transformation God offers.
True transformation comes when we surrender, not just our actions, but our desires. The believers in Ephesus who brought their costly books of magic and burned them publicly demonstrated what surrender looks like. They didn’t care about the cost or their reputation; they wanted nothing to stand between them and intimacy with God. This act of surrender was more powerful than any miracle—it was the visible fruit of the Spirit’s work in their hearts. But as real transformation takes root, opposition will come. The enemy is content with our pretending, but he pushes back when we truly surrender and begin to change.
God does not call us to surrender so He can shame us, but so He can heal, redeem, and restore us. He invites us to lay down whatever we’re holding back—not to take from us, but to give us something better. Whether it’s secret sin, fear, or misplaced priorities, God’s desire is always for our good and our freedom. As a community, we are called to encourage one another toward deeper intimacy with Christ, to be honest about our struggles, and to seek His presence above all else. When we do, we experience genuine transformation, and the world around us cannot help but notice.
Acts 19:11-20 (ESV) — 11 And God was doing extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul, 12 so that even handkerchiefs or aprons that had touched his skin were carried away to the sick, and their diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them.
13 Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists undertook to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “I adjure you by the Jesus whom Paul proclaims.” 14 Seven sons of a Jewish high priest named Sceva were doing this.
15 But the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I recognize, but who are you?” 16 And the man in whom was the evil spirit leaped on them, mastered all of them and overpowered them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
17 And this became known to all the residents of Ephesus, both Jews and Greeks. And fear fell upon them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was extolled.
18 Also many of those who were now believers came, confessing and divulging their practices. 19 And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted the value of them and found it came to fifty thousand pieces of silver.
20 So the word of the Lord continued to increase and prevail mightily.
``When the Holy Spirit is present in our lives, there will be fruit. There will be evidence of his work in us and through us. It will happen. It's not, there's not a question about it. If the Holy Spirit is present, he's working. If he's working, there will be fruit. How can I say this for 100 % fact? Because God does not fail. And the Holy Spirit is God. So if he's in you, he's working in you, he's going to win that fight. Period. Period. [00:16:14] (36 seconds) #SpiritPresenceEqualsFruit
We want success. We want to succeed at what we're doing. We want our lives to thrive. We want our finances to thrive. We want our kids to thrive. We want our career to thrive. We want ministries to thrive. We want success, but we don't want surrender. I want success, but God, if it requires me letting go of it, I think I would much rather...just hold on to it. We want to use Jesus' name, but we don't want him as our Lord. I want salvation. I want Jesus as Savior, but I don't want him as Lord. I want the get -out -of -hell -free card, but as soon as Jesus starts telling me to change things that I'm doing and change my priority and change my focus, that's where I'm highly questionable on whether or not I want to continue. [00:22:10] (62 seconds) #SurrenderOverSuccess
The scariest thing about ministry is you can learn to do it. What he's saying there is that you and I can learn to say the right things, do the right things, act the right way, talk the right way, pretend, and we can get results all without relying on the Holy Spirit. And I would argue that that's not just ministry, that's the Christian life. And if you'll allow me for just a moment, I think that that could be one of the reasons that pretending is so prevalent in our churches. because we can say the right thing, do the right thing, talk the right way, put on all the right faces, and we can show up week in, week out. Well, we haven't really surrendered. And we wonder why change isn't happening. [00:23:55] (56 seconds) #BewareOfPretendFaith
The presence of the Holy Spirit will change you. And that change leads to more fruit than you can imagine. And that this in and of itself, like, this is the fruit. Like, what is the fruit of the presence of the Holy Spirit? The fruit of the presence of the Holy Spirit is these people coming together and saying, we're done with this. And we want everyone to know we're done with this. Like, that this is just as powerful, if not maybe even more so, than the handkerchief that touched Paul that went away and helped heal a sick person. A life that through action is wholly and completely surrendered to Christ. And that carries so much more power and impact than anything else. And not just impact through us, but impact in us. [00:36:48] (67 seconds) #RightWrongSurrenderDesires
If God's desire is for your best and if God is a God who loves you and loves you wholly and completely, then all of this that he does, he does in love. Like a loving father who disciplines and corrects his child. That is our God. And so he convicts and he brings to mind mind not to make you and I feel bad, not so that we sit in our shame and wallow, but because he loves us too much to just let us stay there. [00:57:16] (33 seconds) #GodLovesAndDisciplines
We don't want a bunch of pretenders who act like they're holier than thou. We want those who are authentic and honest about their burden and their struggle so that they might experience genuine transformation powered by the Holy Spirit. That the Holy Spirit would do mighty and amazing things in each and every single one of us. That we would experience His presence in new ways. We would experience His peace in new ways. And we would, yes, experience His power and His work in new ways. Not because we faked our way to get there. Not because we pretended to get there. Because we pretended to care about it. But because it actually mattered and we were willing to pay the cost. We cared about the process and not just the fruit. And so Satan's going to have to begin to notice and care about what's happening here. Because lives are being transformed. And the kingdom is moving. [01:00:23] (61 seconds) #AuthenticTransformation
