Embracing the Transformative Power of the Resurrection

Summary

Taking a moment to reflect on the power and significance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we are reminded of the profound impact it has on our lives today. The resurrection is not just a historical event but a transformative reality that offers us hope, mercy, and a new beginning. As we gather to celebrate this truth, we recognize that Jesus, our eternal champion, has conquered death and offers us victory over sin and shame.

The resurrection story, as recounted in Matthew 28, highlights the role of women as the first witnesses to this miraculous event. This detail underscores the authenticity of the resurrection account, as women in that cultural context were not considered credible witnesses. Yet, God chose them to be the first to proclaim the good news, reminding us that His ways often defy human expectations.

The resurrection is a testament to God's mercy, a theme that resonates deeply with our human experience. We all carry burdens of shame, anger, and fear, but through the resurrection, we are invited to encounter God's mercy, which liberates us from these chains. The story of the woman caught in adultery in John 8 illustrates this beautifully. Jesus, rather than condemning her, offers her mercy and a chance to start anew, challenging us to extend the same grace to others.

Moreover, the resurrection assures us that Jesus understands our limitations and frustrations. The account of the man at the pool of Bethesda in John 5 reveals how Jesus meets us in our disappointment and offers healing and hope. His question, "Do you want to get well?" invites us to confront our fears and embrace the change that His mercy brings.

In embracing the resurrection, we are called to live in the freedom and forgiveness that Jesus offers. This freedom is not just a release from past failures but an invitation to a transformed life, where we depend on God's strength and mercy daily. As we reflect on these truths, let us be reminded that the resurrection is not just an event to be celebrated but a reality to be lived out in our everyday lives.

Day 1: The Resurrection's Transformative Power
The resurrection of Jesus is not merely a historical event but a transformative reality that continues to impact lives today. It is a testament to God's power and the truth of Jesus' claims as the Son of God. The fact that women were the first witnesses to the resurrection underscores its authenticity, as women in that cultural context were not considered credible witnesses. Yet, God chose them to be the first to proclaim the good news, reminding us that His ways often defy human expectations. This pivotal event transformed history and offers us hope, mercy, and a new beginning. [02:45]

Matthew 28:5-7 (ESV): "But the angel said to the women, 'Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.'"

Reflection: How does the reality of the resurrection challenge your current understanding of God's power in your life? What steps can you take to live more fully in this transformative truth today?

Day 2: Mercy Triumphs Over Shame
The story of the woman caught in adultery illustrates how Jesus offers mercy instead of condemnation. This mercy liberates us from shame and invites us to live in freedom and forgiveness. We all carry burdens of shame, anger, and fear, but through the resurrection, we are invited to encounter God's mercy, which liberates us from these chains. Jesus, rather than condemning the woman, offers her mercy and a chance to start anew, challenging us to extend the same grace to others. [23:20]

John 8:10-11 (ESV): "Jesus stood up and said to her, 'Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?' She said, 'No one, Lord.' And Jesus said, 'Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.'"

Reflection: Think of a situation where you have felt shame. How can you invite God's mercy into that situation and extend the same grace to others who may be struggling with similar feelings?

Day 3: Embracing Our Limitations with Hope
We all have limitations and weaknesses, but God's mercy meets us in our frustration and disappointment. The story of the man at the pool of Bethesda shows how Jesus offers healing and hope, inviting us to trust in His transformative power. Jesus understands our limitations and frustrations, and His question, "Do you want to get well?" invites us to confront our fears and embrace the change that His mercy brings. [35:58]

John 5:6-8 (ESV): "When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, 'Do you want to be healed?' The sick man answered him, 'Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, and while I am going another steps down before me.' Jesus said to him, 'Get up, take up your bed, and walk.'"

Reflection: What is one area of your life where you feel limited or frustrated? How can you invite Jesus into that space to bring healing and hope?

Day 4: Trusting in God's Strength
True dependence on God is an expression of trust. In our culture of independence, we are reminded that God desires us to rely on Him, finding strength and peace in His mercy. The resurrection assures us that Jesus understands our limitations and frustrations, and His mercy meets us in our disappointment. We are called to live in the freedom and forgiveness that Jesus offers, depending on God's strength and mercy daily. [34:38]

2 Corinthians 12:9 (ESV): "But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

Reflection: In what ways are you relying on your own strength instead of God's? How can you begin to shift your dependence to Him in your daily life?

Day 5: Living in the Freedom of the Resurrection
The resurrection invites us to live in the freedom and transformation that Jesus offers. It is a call to embrace change, leave behind our past failures, and walk in the new life that His mercy provides. This freedom is not just a release from past failures but an invitation to a transformed life, where we depend on God's strength and mercy daily. As we reflect on these truths, let us be reminded that the resurrection is not just an event to be celebrated but a reality to be lived out in our everyday lives. [28:08]

Colossians 3:1-3 (ESV): "If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God."

Reflection: What past failures or burdens are you holding onto that prevent you from living in the freedom of the resurrection? What practical steps can you take today to embrace the new life Jesus offers?

Quotes

I believe that today I believe you came to the right place and I pray that the Lord will minister to you I pray that you'll be uh feel very welcome and I don't know where you're at spiritually but I believe God will minister to your life we We're a church a bunch of people we just love God if you uh saw the folks up here jumping we believe in a resurrected Christ he's the champion so every service we sing about God being on the throne and the champion. [00:00:18]

From those 120, 2,000 years later approximately 2,000 years later today on the planet there's 2.4 billion believers in Jesus Christ today so let me kind of give you a perspective that's one out of three people on the earth believe that Jesus Christ was buried died and rose again from the dead and that is to give you another perspective that is the population of China the population of all of Europe and the entire United States. [00:02:28]

What happened what made so many people believe in Christ and I can tell you just one word resurrection because there was the resurrection it changes everything and today I want to talk about the power of the resurrection and how really it benefits your life and how it you could apply it personally in your life so let me read the resurrection story here in Matthew chapter 28 then I'm going to uh dive right into the message. [00:03:10]

Suddenly there was a great earthquake for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and he rolled aside the stone so he rolled it he there was this stone in front of this tomb and it was very heavy but an angel just moved it like that and he sat on the stone he sat on it and his face shone like lightning and his clothing was as white as snow the guard these are the Roman guards these guys are warriors man they don't fear anything. [00:04:58]

The guards shook with fear when they saw him they fell into a dead faint i mean they just fell over dead then the angel spoke to the women "don't be afraid," he said i mean how could you not like what's going on here i know you're looking for Jesus who was crucified he isn't here he's risen from the dead just as he said would happen come see where his body was lying so I want you to walk into the tomb look at this Jesus isn't there. [00:05:32]

The women ran quickly from the tomb they were very frightened of course they were frightened but they were also filled with great joy and they rushed to give the disciples the angel's message so now they see that Jesus not in the tomb they get visited by an angel who tells them to go back and they're in a rush and this is gets where it gets interesting as they went Jesus met them and greeted them so they're running to tell the best. [00:06:16]

Jesus said to them "Don't be afraid." Everybody's saying "Don't be afraid man i'll be afraid i'm telling you but go tell my brother to leave for Galilee and they will see me there so let's pray father we thank you for the word of God we know that your word is true today we know that it applies to our lives even in 2025 the word of God is not a myth it's not a fairy tale but God it applies to every facet and area of our it speaks in today's generation. [00:07:09]

Jesus was able to make impact upon the lives of people beyond the grave so why is the resurrection why is Easter so important because Jesus proved that what he said was true in other words he was telling the truth when he said he was the son of God when Jesus claimed to be the son of God he was claiming to be God himself that's how the Jewish people understood it this is why they wanted to stone him Jesus said "I'm the way I'm the truth and I'm the life." [00:08:58]

When Jesus said "I'm rising again," he actually did rise again and when you read the scripture you'll find that this resurrection really displays the mercy of God and I want to talk about God's mercy and how it applies to your life in fact the scripture tells us in Luke 1:78 "A new day will dawn on us because our God is loving and our God is merciful." See most people do not understand how merciful God is this is why people are kind of afraid of God. [00:10:00]

When you begin to understand the love and the mercy of God your anxiety will decrease your peace will begin to increase when we look at the definition of mercy it means kindness it means compassion it means forgiveness towards somebody that doesn't deserve it none of us have earned the mercy of God none of us deserve the mercy of God but yet God in his love God in his grace gives us this mercy that we don't uh deserve this forgiveness that we haven't earned. [00:10:43]

The reason why you're even alive is because the mercy of God in fact every morning I wake up thank you God for your mercy I'm I could breathe I could see another morning unfortunately there's a lot of people that didn't wake up today unfortunately all over the world there's people today that did not wake up by the mercy of God you woke up today you're in this building today by the mercy of God you're breathing by the mercy of God you get to eat you get to drink it is all by the mercy of God. [00:11:26]

The mercy of God number one if you want to write this down the first thing the benefit is when I'm ashamed listen to me I need God's mercy because I have failed how many would admit today that there's been some failure in your life three people but I would tell you today that all of us have messed up there's none of us here that are perfect if you're perfect you came to the wrong church service today if you're perfect you know what just keep texting check out your social media. [00:12:49]

Failure is an event it is not a person we have failed but we don't have to live in failure and this is why the mercy of God makes a difference because he removes anything that we're ashamed of he removes anything where we have failed he removes any place where we have some imperfections in fact the Bible says in Romans 3:23 "For everyone has sinned." We all fall short of God's glorious standard in other words none of us can meet the standard of God we all fell we have all sinned. [00:13:50]

The Bible says we've all stumbled and when you stumble what happens you trip you find yourself trapped somewhere because you're stumbling because you're falling you get caught uh with the same old thing that you've been doing over and over you've tripped yourself up over and over and this is where God is saying I want to show you and give you some mercy so let me give you a story that you might be familiar with about this one woman that was caught and was trapped in an illicit relationship in a wrong relationship. [00:15:02]

The Pharisees were religious scholars they were legalists but they were also very judgmental they're very hypocritical they were very self-righteous and by the way they hated Jesus they did not like Jesus isn't it ironic that the religious people hated Jesus the common people loved Jesus it's kind of the time that we live in today religious people you could talk about God but don't talk about Jesus and so they were religious they were self-righteous they caught this woman who was uh in adultery. [00:17:05]

They bring her before Jesus and they said they were trying look at verse number six they were trying to trap Jesus into saying something that they could use against him but what did Jesus do I love Jesus's reaction he doesn't go "Oh my God you got to remember." You know he doesn't panic he doesn't look at that woman and say "Oh get her out get out of my face I don't want to see her." He doesn't say that in fact he's not shocked by people's sin he's not phased by any of that. [00:20:23]

The Bible said the accusers begin to make their exit from the oldest to the youngest the oldest was first I think the older you get the more honest you ought to become I I have found myself the older I get I don't have to prove anything to no one and I got to just tell people I don't have it all together don't think I'm all this I'm just like you I'm I'm you know I don't have all my life together I'm not trying to pretend to be something I'm not I don't want to be fake. [00:24:59]

The older you get you begin to realize you know what the longer you're living life the more you cut people a little bit more slack because you know what it is you lived out that life and you realize you know what we don't have it all together we need some help and so at that point after they walked away the Bible says Jesus stood back up and he said to her "Where are your accusers where is these guys that were accusing you is there no one left to condemn you?" [00:25:47]

Jesus said "Now go on and leave your sinful ways or sin no more." So Jesus was saying "Okay I'm giving you mercy okay I'm going to forgive what you're doing but don't go out and keep living your way you've been living." He said "Hey go back to your adulterous life go back into the trap that you were involved go back to that toxic relationship." That's not what Jesus said Jesus said "Go and stop living this way stop living your sinful way stop living in sin." [00:27:03]

The mercy of God will change you the mercy of God will transform you this is what we're talking about he doesn't condemn he doesn't condone but he changes you by giving you mercy when you receive the mercy of God you are receiving his forgiveness and you are receiving freedom Jesus sets you free the Bible said in Isaiah 61 it said "He that sent me to heal the brokenhearted to proclaim liberty to those that are captive and the opening of the prison to those that are bound."
