Embracing the Transformative Power of the Holy Spirit
Summary
In my sermon, I discussed the power and presence of the Holy Spirit, drawing from biblical passages and personal experiences. I emphasized that the same Holy Spirit that was present during the creation of the world, the Protestant Reformation, the Great Awakenings, and the Holiness Revival is the same Holy Spirit that is present in our lives today. I also highlighted the importance of the church in spreading the word of God and the Holy Spirit, referencing the Methodist church's history of planting new churches and the current efforts of the 99 Network. I concluded by sharing a personal story of my spiritual awakening and the transformative power of accepting Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior.

Devotional
Day 1: Embrace the Holy Spirit's Power
The Holy Spirit is not a relic of the past, but a living, active force in our lives today. We must not treat the Holy Spirit as a museum piece, but rather invite Him to fill us, empower us, and guide us in our mission. We must not be content with a form of religion without power, but seek the true power that comes from a relationship with the Holy Spirit ([44:31]).
Acts 1:8 - "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
Reflection: How can you invite the Holy Spirit to fill and empower you in your daily life?
Day 2: The Holy Spirit Brings Unity
The Holy Spirit has the power to bring unity among diverse groups of people. On the day of Pentecost, people from every nation under heaven heard the wonders of God in their own languages. This is a testament to the unifying power of the Holy Spirit ([25:19]).
Acts 2:4-6 - "All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken."
Reflection: How can you contribute to unity in your community through the power of the Holy Spirit?
Day 3: The Holy Spirit Heals
The Holy Spirit has the power to heal our hurts, habits, and hang-ups. We must invite the Holy Spirit into our lives and allow Him to restore and heal us ([01:11:55]).
Psalm 147:3 - "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."
Reflection: What areas of your life do you need the Holy Spirit to heal and restore?
Day 4: The Holy Spirit Empowers Our Mission
The Holy Spirit empowers us to fulfill our mission. We must not get stuck in history or pretend that the move of God is old and passé. Instead, we must embrace our mission and trust God for the power to accomplish it ([43:55]).
Acts 4:31 - "After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly."
Reflection: How can you rely on the Holy Spirit to empower you in fulfilling your mission?
Day 5: The Holy Spirit Gives Us Peace
The Holy Spirit gives us peace in our relationship with God. When we invite Jesus into our hearts and ask for forgiveness, we receive peace from the Holy Spirit ([01:12:43]).
Romans 15:13 - "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
Reflection: How can you experience the peace of the Holy Spirit in your relationship with God?
Quotes
1. "Postmodern emergent youth culture has fallen. We have this epidemic of young people now emerging in our culture who no longer trust people, trust the institutions, trust the church. The problem primarily is the hypocrisy that young people see in us, the unresolved gap between what we say we believe and how we actually live our lives." - 57:05
2. "The great witness of the Holy Spirit is above all else a changed heart and a changed life. Look your spouse in the eyes and say 'I'm sorry for saying one thing and living another. I'm sorry for the wounds I've caused. I'm sorry for my sin. Please forgive me.'" - 58:03
3. "In the last days, God says, I will pour out my spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my spirit in those days and they will prophesy." - 25:59
4. "Fill me, Holy Spirit. Empower my life, restore my life, heal me. I have lots of hurts, habits, hang-ups. Heal me today with your Holy Spirit. Forgive me of my sins, all the things I've done wrong. I need you in my life. Forgive me my sins, come into my heart. I want to know you, I want to live for you." - 01:11:55
5. "Peter said, 'They're not drunk. It's only nine in the morning. This is that which was spoken of by Joel the prophet.' So we know this worked for Simon Peter. Without any scholarly support or rabbinical input, on the day of Pentecost, he is seeing, hearing, and witnessing the presence of the Holy Spirit and so he identifies with it." - 37:28
