Quotes
Prayer is the root, it is the fountain, it is the mother of a thousand blessings. In other words, prayer is to be the foundation of everything we do in life. It should not be something we do when we've exhausted all other possibilities. Have you ever been there before? You tried to fix it, you try to make some calls, you try to make some connections, you try to work extra, you try to do this extra, that, and nothing you did fixed it. [00:04:13]
Prayer is not supposed to be the last resort. Everything is supposed to begin in prayer, be bathed in prayer, be birthed in prayer, and be upheld in prayer. Sadly, we treat prayer like it's optional and unnecessary when in fact it's essential and indispensable in our lives. Prayer is to be valued, esteemed, respected, longed for, and never overlooked. [00:04:42]
Prayer disarms the enemy's plans. Too many times we wait for the enemy's plans to be at our doorstep. We can defeat the enemy's plans before they even arrive. How many of you know in Ephesians chapter number six, the great chapter about the spiritual armor that God has given us? He talks about a whole bunch of things. [00:07:12]
Prayer makes us look smarter than we are. Jeremiah 33:3 says, "Call unto me and I will answer you and I will tell you or show you marvelous and wondrous things that you can never figure out on your own." How many understand there are certain things that we don't have the wisdom we need for, no matter how smart you are? [00:08:28]
Prayer saves us time. So many people, they don't pray because they don't have time. Well, you know, I already wake up early enough. I already get home after I got so many things. I got 10 kids and, you know, I got two jobs and I got this and that and the other. Got all this housework and all this choice. When am I going to find time to pray? [00:09:44]
Prayer cleanses our conscience from sin. Look at how quiet it got right there. It gets quiet in church when you talk about sin because you don't hear sin in church anymore. Sin is not something to be played with. Sin is not something we should feel good about. Sin is not something we should feel, "Well, you know, the grace of God's got me covered." [00:11:31]
The prayer closet fills us with joy. Until now, Jesus said, you have asked nothing in my name. Ask and you will receive that your joy may be full. Full joy. It is impossible, listen to me, it is impossible for somebody to not be full of joy who spends time in the presence of God. It's impossible. [00:14:42]
The prayer closet is a treasured place. Matter of fact, the word closet from the original language describes an inner chamber, often of kings, and it was where all of their most treasured possessions were kept. It was also the place where they changed clothes and robes. And prayer is also that. How many of you know you change clothes when you go in for prayer? [00:16:24]
Prayer is where we express our dependence on God, that we need him more than anything. There was this protégé of Socrates, and he went to Socrates and he said, "I want the wisdom that you have." Socrates took him down to the river, put him underneath the water, and held him underneath there till it was a little uncomfortable, pulled him up, said, "What do you want?" [00:20:39]
Prayer is transformational because it changes us. What is life about? Life is not about eat, sleep, and be merry, for tomorrow you die. Life is not the acquisition of enough stuff so you could live an easy life. It's not. That's not the purpose of life. The purpose of life is transforming you into the image of Christ. [00:38:22]
Your prayer closet is God's pottery house. He told Jeremiah, he said, "Go down to the potter's house." We think, well, what's that? In Jeremiah's time, it was like going to the mall. There were potter's houses all over the place. And when Jeremiah goes down to this ordinary place, he sees extraordinary things. [00:38:22]
Prayer is earthly license for heavenly intervention. Prayer changes things. It changes circumstances, outcomes, odds, outlook, narrative, story, testimony, power, advantage. Prayer causes the favor of God to be in your life. When's the last time you've been to your prayer closet? Prayer gives the battle to God. He ain't never lost a battle. [00:36:31]
