1. "Our story today is actually quite scandalous if you think about it. So I want us to think of the story that we read a moment ago as Grace Gate. All right? Hold that as we think about that story together. Diving into the story of the prodigal son. So the Pharisees and the scribes were complaining and grumbling about Jesus. He eats, with sinners and tax collectors." [03:14] (28 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

2. "The story goes that the father saw him while he was still far off. And he ran to him. And he embraced him and kissed him and demanded the finest robe and a ring and sandals for his feet. Tell the slaves to kill the fatted calf. We're going to party. And so the revelry begins. The kitchen gets busy preparing all the food. And the musicians maybe strike up a chord." 3. "The father says, everything that's mine is yours. My beloved son, everything that's mine is yours. But we had to celebrate for your son, my son, who was lost, is now found. And that's where the story ends. We don't know what happens. Does the brother, the older brother, go in and celebrate? Or does he remain angry outside the party, refusing to celebrate? We don't know. Jesus gives us a cliffhanger. It's like a choose-your-own-adventure story." [06:49] (38 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

4. "The goal is to become more like the loving father, to grow into what Maslow calls self-actualization, right? No longer needing to, toe the line, but just becoming the grace of God. And so the younger brother exploits the point. He takes advantage of his father's goodness, his father's graciousness. The older brother misses the point. He's surprised that his father would throw a party for the younger brother. When he returns, he misses the point. And then there's the father who becomes the very grace of God." 5. "So let me ask, do you think the younger son deserved the grace that was extended to him? Yes or no? No. Didn't deserve it. But then again, that's the nature of grace, isn't it? Unmerited favor, unearned blessings. This story is all about grace." [08:27] (28 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

6. "It isn't because we're good. It isn't because of what we do to earn it. It isn't because that we have to work hard to earn the grace of God. The grace of God is just there because we are God's. And so, I don't know what your life has looked like. If you feel like you deserve all the grace that you've received or not, I don't know. It doesn't matter because God's grace is there for us just because we are God's." [13:57] (33 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

7. "Step one, is recognizing that. Then step two is to not find ourselves in the younger brother, not to find ourselves in the dutiful older brother, but to find ourselves growing towards self-actualization where grace just simply naturally overflows as a part of who we are and who we become. We become the very grace of God to the world around." [13:57] (32 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

8. "And if we, collectively, chapel, can grow into that as a family, as a church family, then maybe we'll create our very own scandal. They're going to call it chapel gate, how a small church offered outlandish grace to the community all around. Story at nine." [13:57] (26 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)
