Embracing the Light: The Transformative Birth of Jesus

Summary

In today's message, we explored the profound story of Jesus' birth and the events that followed, emphasizing the divine orchestration and fulfillment of prophecies. We began by reflecting on the role of the prophets, who foretold the coming of Jesus, and how their prophecies were fulfilled with precision. This highlights the reliability and faithfulness of God's word. We then delved into the story of Mary and Joseph, who were visited by an angel and informed of their pivotal role in raising the Son of God. This divine intervention shook their world, yet they embraced their calling with faith and courage.

As we continued, we examined the challenges faced by Mary and Joseph, particularly their flight to Egypt to escape King Herod's wrath. Herod, threatened by the prophecy of a new king, sought to eliminate Jesus, but God's protection was evident as an angel guided Joseph to safety. This part of the story reminds us of God's sovereignty and His ability to protect and guide us through life's uncertainties.

The narrative then shifted to the return of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus to Israel after Herod's death, fulfilling yet another prophecy. This journey underscores the theme of trust in God's plan, even when the path is unclear. We concluded with a powerful illustration of transformation, likening our spiritual journey to a cucumber becoming a pickle. Just as the cucumber is changed by its environment, we are transformed by the presence of Jesus in our lives.

The message culminated in an invitation to accept Jesus into our hearts, emphasizing that His birth was not just a historical event but a personal invitation to experience His light and love. Through a simple prayer, we can receive the ultimate gift of salvation, allowing Jesus to illuminate our lives and guide us in His truth.

Day 1: The Certainty of Prophetic Promises
The birth of Jesus was not a random event but a fulfillment of ancient prophecies, demonstrating the reliability and faithfulness of God's word. Prophets like Isaiah and Micah spoke of the coming Messiah, and their words came to fruition with remarkable precision. This fulfillment underscores the trustworthiness of God's promises, reminding us that what He has spoken will come to pass in His perfect timing. As we reflect on these fulfilled prophecies, we are encouraged to trust in God's word and His promises for our own lives, knowing that He is faithful to accomplish all that He has declared. [01:05:55]

Isaiah 46:9-10 (ESV): "Remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose.’"

Reflection: What specific promise from God are you holding onto today? How can you remind yourself of His faithfulness in fulfilling His word?

Day 2: Trusting in Divine Protection
The journey of Mary and Joseph to Egypt illustrates God's protective hand over His people. Faced with the threat of King Herod, who sought to eliminate Jesus, they were guided by an angel to safety. This divine intervention highlights God's sovereignty and His ability to protect and guide us through life's uncertainties. Even in the face of danger, God provides guidance and safety, encouraging us to trust Him in our own trials. As we navigate our own challenges, we can find comfort in knowing that God is with us, guiding us to safety and providing for our needs. [01:04:29]

Psalm 121:7-8 (ESV): "The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore."

Reflection: In what area of your life do you need to trust God's protection today? How can you actively seek His guidance in this situation?

Day 3: Transformation Through Christ
The transformation of a cucumber into a pickle serves as a powerful illustration of how our lives are changed when we invite Jesus in. Just as the cucumber is changed by its environment, we are transformed by the presence of Jesus in our lives. His presence brings about a profound transformation, making us new creations in Him. This transformation is not just a change in behavior but a deep, inner renewal that affects every aspect of our being. As we allow Jesus to work in us, we become more like Him, reflecting His love and grace to the world around us. [01:08:58]

2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV): "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."

Reflection: What area of your life is Jesus transforming right now? How can you cooperate with His work in you to become more like Him?

Day 4: Walking in the Light of Christ
Jesus declared Himself the light of the world, offering guidance and hope to those who follow Him. Embracing His light means walking in truth and never being overcome by darkness. As we follow Jesus, we are called to live in His light, allowing His truth to guide our steps and illuminate our path. This involves a daily commitment to seek His presence, listen to His voice, and follow His leading. By walking in the light of Christ, we can experience His peace and joy, even in the midst of life's challenges. [01:11:52]

John 8:12 (ESV): "Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'"

Day 5: Embracing the Gift of Salvation
Accepting Jesus into our hearts is the greatest gift we can receive. Through His sacrifice, we are offered eternal life and a relationship with God, a gift available to all who believe. This invitation is not just a historical event but a personal call to experience His light and love. By accepting this gift, we allow Jesus to illuminate our lives and guide us in His truth. This involves a simple prayer of faith, acknowledging our need for Him and inviting Him to be the Lord of our lives. As we embrace this gift, we are transformed and empowered to live for His glory. [01:12:44]

Ephesians 2:8-9 (ESV): "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast."

Quotes

I've witnessed God's faithfulness through this whole transition in a pretty fun way, in seeing how the communities actually come closer together. It could have been very simple, very easy for this church to just sort of fall apart and walk away. And we wouldn't be able to fault them for that because people are scared of change. [00:34:02] (24 seconds)

You see, Joseph picked up his family, and they began to move back out of Egypt, back to where they thought they would be safe. But that's not exactly. What happened? And actually, you know what we can do? We can read right from the Bible here in Matthew chapter 2, starting at verse 19. Verse 19 to 23. [01:05:08] (19 seconds)

After King Herod had died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt and said, get up, take the child and his mother, and go to the land of Israel for those who were trying to take the child's life are dead. So he got up, he took the child and his mother, and he went. To the land of Israel. [01:05:30] (23 seconds)

But when he heard that Archelius, who was reigning in Judah, well, that was like the son of King Herod. When he heard that the son of the king was reigning in Judah in place of his father, Herod, he was afraid there to go there. Having been warned in a dream, he withdrew to the district of Galilee. And he went and he lived in his town called Nazareth. [01:05:54] (24 seconds)

So was fulfilled what was said, he said through the prophets, he will be called a Nazarene. Isn't that awesome? Yeah, see, God had a plan the whole time. Joseph and Mary may not have understood everything all the whole time, but God shook it all up. But you know what? I am so excited to hear about what happened. Again, more prophecies being fulfilled, more truth happening. [01:06:35] (26 seconds)

You see, Jesus lived a life that he knew that if we believed in him and took him into our hearts, then we would be different. But he took some nails in his hands and in his feet. And when he did that, he died on the cross. [01:08:58] (14 seconds)

And by taking those nails in his hands and his feet, everybody thought he was older. Everybody thought that was it. That was the end of the story, and Jesus was gone. But that's not the exact answer, because you know what happens is there's a little surprise that happens when we have Jesus in our lives. When Jesus lives in your heart, something different takes place. [01:09:52] (23 seconds)

Oh my goodness, isn't that awesome? The thing is that we all can live in the light of Jesus. And now that's the whole plan. You see, the Christmas story wasn't about just Jesus being born. It goes beyond that. It goes way past that. It goes into the true meaning of who he was, what he's doing for us. [01:10:58] (18 seconds)

Maybe even one or two a day before Christmas. Hmm. I won't tell Santa, but you know what? There's one gift that maybe you've never gotten before. I want to give you a chance. It's the gift of Jesus right now. I want to do a prayer. And if you've never said this prayer, well, I want you to say with me. It's a, it's a prayer called the prayer of salvation. [01:11:59] (21 seconds)

Thank you, Jesus, for dying on the cross. Thank you, Jesus, that you didn't stay dead, but you rose again because you love us. Thank you, Jesus, for that ultimate gift that we can live forever in heaven with you. [01:12:17] (27 seconds)
