Embracing the Light: A Christmas Reflection

Summary

During this Christmas season, we are reminded of the profound truth that the light of the world has come, and we no longer have to walk in darkness. The Advent season is a time to reflect on the miracle of God becoming flesh and dwelling among us, bringing salvation and eternal life. Just as the magi sought the newborn King, we too are called to seek Jesus with all our hearts, finding in Him the light that dispels all darkness.

The prophecy from Isaiah, spoken over 700 years before Christ's birth, foretold of a great light that would shine in the darkness. This light is Jesus, who has come to illuminate the truth and bring hope to a world filled with despair. As we navigate through life's challenges, we must remain connected to this light, allowing it to guide us and keep us from being overwhelmed by the darkness around us.

In a world filled with distractions and temptations, it takes courage to live as children of the light. We are called to be the light of the world, carrying the light of Christ within us. This means living in a way that reflects His love, peace, and righteousness, even when surrounded by darkness. The light of Christ is not just for our own benefit but is meant to be shared with others, bringing hope and transformation to those around us.

As we celebrate Christmas, let us remember that the light has already won. The darkness cannot overcome it. We are part of an eternal kingdom, sustained by God's justice and righteousness. This Christmas, may we be reminded of the incredible gift of grace and truth that Jesus brought into the world. Let us live in the light, allowing it to awaken us to the reality of God's love and purpose for our lives.

Isaiah 55:6-7 (ESV): "Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon."

Quotes

Lord, I just pray as we come into this Christmas season to get closer to what we call Christmas Day. May we be mindful of the means. May we be mindful of the meaning of what it means that you became flesh and dwelt among us. Lord, may we seek you like these magi. May we seek you like wise people would to find salvation for our souls and eternal life. [00:14:09]

The light of the world has come. We do not have to walk in darkness anymore. You do not have to walk in darkness anymore. And so the scripture tells us in John 1, 5, that the light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it. [00:52:57]

This is the fulfillment of a prophecy that came over 700 years before it. We see the fulfillment of the light coming into the darkness from the prophet Isaiah, Isaiah in chapter 9, verse 2. The people were walking in darkness, yet they have seen a great light. The light has dawned on those living in the land of darkness. [00:53:14]

You have to constantly be looking for the light. You have to be constantly staying in tuned and staying within cell reception of Jesus. And how do we do that? We look to the light of the world. So I wanna encourage you as you live your life today, I want you to think of this. Yes, you're gonna leave this building here in a little bit and you're stepping into a world that is filled with darkness, but you are the light of the world. [00:55:02]

You, you carry the light of Christ in you. And by the way, if it's dark, if it says that Jesus has cast out the darkness and the darkness can't overcome the light of Christ and that light is in you, you become a child of the light and the light now is in you, the darkness can't overcast you either. [00:55:26]

The dominion will be vast, and its prosperity will never end, and he will reign on the throne of David. And over his kingdom, and establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from now on and forever. The zeal of the Lord of armies will accomplish this. Amen. [00:58:44]

The light of the world is here. Life must change. But the light stays with us. No matter what we go through. No matter what we experience. No matter what dark days of distress that are out there. God says there will be a future that will bring honor. If you look at verse 1. There will be a future that will come. [01:02:36]

We better be ready. We better be in the light and have the light. Listen, I don't know if you know Matthew 25 talks about these virgins. Some of them did not prepare their lamps. They let their light go out. And when the bride, groom came back, they weren't ready. We better have our light ready. We better have our light trimmed. We better be living in the light. So when Christ comes back, we're ready. [01:03:19]

The true light is Christ. He is coming to this world. So you can have the light awaken within you. You do not have to walk in darkness. You do not have to walk in darkness. You do not have to walk in darkness. You do not have to think, I don't have this figured out. I don't know. Listen, what drives me nuts is, do you know where you're going to go when you die? And I have Christians tell me, I don't know. I hope I'm good enough. What? [01:22:10]

The light has come and he is in you and you are born of that light. And then you become a child of that light. Now, listen, I'm not going to go correct Keith's sermon, but I want to say a few things about this. Listen, you're a child of God, you still sin, but the light is in you. If you want to remove that and act like a sinner, go for it. But you're a child of God. [01:23:50]

The beauty of this whole thing is found in verses 14 and 15. God, or the Word, became flesh. He dwelled among us. What that means is He tabernacled. He lived among us. Literally, it means He made a tent. He made a tent and came and dwelled among us. Why did He do that? So that we could observe His glory. [01:24:36]

The light has not been extinguished. The light is now in you. And if you don't know Jesus, come so that the light of Christ can come into your life so that you can become that child of God, so that you can become that righteousness of God, so that you can live by his justice on this earth, so that you can be seen by others because you are the light of men now, because the light of Christ is in you.
