Embracing the Hope of the Resurrection
Summary
On this Resurrection Sunday, we reflect on the miraculous nature of Easter, a day that defies the natural order and brings hope to our lives. The resurrection of Jesus is a profound miracle, one that challenges our understanding of life and death. It is a miracle because it defies the natural laws: virgins do not conceive, the dead do not rise, and yet, Jesus did all these things. This miracle is witnessed by many, including over 500 people who saw the risen Christ. The resurrection is not just a story; it is a pivotal event that demands our attention and belief.
In our lives, filled with sorrows, worries, and concerns, the resurrection offers hope. It teaches us that anything is possible, even in the face of death. We are called to see this miracle through the eyes of faith, a gift from God that allows us to believe in what we have not seen. The resurrection is a cornerstone of our faith, and it challenges us to consider whether we believe it to be fact or fiction. If true, it validates everything Jesus taught and offers us eternal hope.
The Apostle Paul outlines the ramifications if the resurrection did not occur: our faith would be futile, we would remain in our sins, those who have died would have perished without hope, and we would be most pitiable if our hope were only for this life. However, the resurrection did happen, and it is supported by witnesses and historical evidence. This truth should shape our beliefs, not based on tradition or culture, but on the facts and the transformative power of the resurrection.
As we ponder the resurrection, we are reminded that our beliefs should be grounded in truth and evidence. The resurrection is a testament to God's power and love, offering us a path to eternal life through Jesus Christ. It challenges us to let go of lesser beliefs and embrace the truth of the gospel. In doing so, we find strength for our journey and hope for the future.

Day 1: The Resurrection Defies Natural Laws
The resurrection of Jesus is a miraculous event that defies the natural laws of the world. It challenges our understanding of life and death, as it is a testament to the power of God to overcome even the most final of human experiences—death itself. This miracle was witnessed by many, including over 500 people who saw the risen Christ, providing a strong foundation for belief. The resurrection is not just a story; it is a pivotal event that demands our attention and belief. It offers hope in the face of life's challenges, reminding us that with God, all things are possible, even overcoming death. [05:45]
1 Corinthians 15:20-22 (ESV): "But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive."
Reflection: In what areas of your life do you feel bound by the "natural laws" of this world? How can the truth of the resurrection inspire you to believe in the impossible today?
Day 2: Our Faith Journey Towards an Eternal Home
Our faith journey is a movement towards an eternal home with God, where our faith will become sight. The resurrection assures us that our efforts and sacrifices are meaningful and will be rewarded. It is a reminder that our journey is not in vain, as the resurrection offers us eternal hope and validates everything Jesus taught. This journey is filled with challenges, but the promise of eternal life gives us strength and purpose. [08:06]
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (ESV): "So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal."
Reflection: What is one specific way you can focus on the eternal rather than the temporary in your daily life this week?
Day 3: The Resurrection Demands Our Belief
The resurrection is a pivotal event that demands our belief. If true, it validates all of Jesus' teachings and offers us eternal hope. If false, it renders our faith meaningless. This decision is one of the most important we can make in our lives. The resurrection challenges us to consider whether we believe it to be fact or fiction, and this belief shapes our entire faith journey. [10:06]
John 11:25-26 (ESV): "Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?'"
Reflection: Reflect on your current beliefs about the resurrection. How does your belief or doubt in this event impact your daily life and faith practices?
Day 4: Grounding Beliefs in Truth and Evidence
Our beliefs should be grounded in truth and evidence, not merely tradition or cultural influences. The resurrection is supported by historical evidence and witnesses, challenging us to form our beliefs based on facts. This grounding in truth allows us to embrace the transformative power of the resurrection and live out our faith with confidence and conviction. [21:34]
Acts 17:11 (ESV): "Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so."
Reflection: What steps can you take to ensure that your beliefs are grounded in truth and evidence rather than tradition or cultural influences?
Day 5: Embracing the Truth of the Gospel
The resurrection is a testament to God's power and love, offering us a path to eternal life through Jesus Christ. It invites us to let go of lesser beliefs and embrace the truth of the gospel, finding strength and hope for our journey. By embracing this truth, we are empowered to live lives that reflect the love and power of God, impacting those around us with the hope of the resurrection. [30:30]
Ephesians 1:18-20 (ESV): "Having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places."
Reflection: What lesser beliefs or distractions do you need to let go of to fully embrace the truth of the gospel in your life today?
Quotes
The resurrection of Jesus is a miracle because virgins don't conceive and bear children. The Easter story is a miracle because dead men do not rise from the grave three days after death. The Easter story is a miracle because virgin-born resurrected men do not hang around for 40 days and teach and talk and fellowship with their disciples. It's a miracle because dead men three days gone resurrected are not observed by 552 or more witnesses. [00:00:30] (37 seconds)
The faith journey is a journey toward an eternal home, a life with God, a permanent eternal life. And when we cross the threshold from this earthly existence where everything is sensory, we learn by sight and touch and smell and the view of things that we use our senses for. But the things of the spirit are spiritually known. They're by faith. When we get to heaven, our faith will become sight. [00:05:00] (28 seconds)
No man has ever given up farms or lands or families or anything from this earthly realm. No one has ever sacrificed anything during their faith journey. They will not be rewarded. Eye has not seen nor has it entered into the mind of man, the things awaiting us who believe in Christ. If we see by faith that resurrection can happen and did happen, then we know that our pains, our worries, our concerns, we know that anything is possible. [00:06:06] (34 seconds)
The issue on which everything hangs is not whether or not you like his teaching, but whether or not he rose from the dead. So the Easter miracle is the resurrection. It is evidenced by many witnesses. Today, I will give you only one witness. Next week, I'll give you seven additional witnesses of the resurrection. How do we form our opinions? Is it true? Is it false? This question. [00:08:14] (30 seconds)
By God's spirit, he will awaken your faith in your mind, in your heart, so that you can really believe. And this is what miracle you need in your own heart. If the resurrection did not happen, there are four ramifications that the Apostle Paul gives us. If it didn't happen, then there are four things that would be true that we should all be aware of. [00:09:10] (25 seconds)
If the resurrection isn't true, then everyone that we love, that we have followed behind them to the grave, or we've sprinkled their ashes in the water or on the land, everyone that we've ever loved, if the resurrection isn't true, then they are perishing without remedy. Now, culture says there's all kinds of remedy. We pick the religion. We pick the application of the religion. [00:12:15] (27 seconds)
If Christ did not rise, and all we have hope for is this existence here, these 70 or 80 or 90 years that we might be given, if this is the only place we have hope, then we are, the King James Version of the Bible says, we are of all men most miserable. If our hope is only in this life and not in the eternal life, not in the hope of the resurrection, if our hope is not in God, then we are to be pitied. [00:14:09] (29 seconds)
There's every witness of life changed. There's miracles. There's healings of the body. There's encouragement of the despairing soul. And the witness to you that you know them is the resurrection. We see it because we see the evidence of its effect. The Bible says that the one who believes in Christ is new, a new creation. Old is gone and behold, all things have become new. [00:28:12] (27 seconds)
If we see by faith that the resurrection really occurred, that means all things are possible. And the heavy burden you're bearing and the pain in your body and the worry for your kids or your mother or your friend or your loved one, that means that nothing is impossible. Because even death could not stop God's doings. And so the despairs of life, this will not stop God's providential doings in your life. [00:28:56] (26 seconds)
