Sermon Summary

Sermon Clips

"Do not work for the food that perishes but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the son of man will give to you. Now you see what Jesus is saying by way of follow-up to those who have experienced the miracle of eating the loaves. He says to them now you all understand that what you do every day in life is that you work in order to get what you need to sustain your life." [00:04:29]

"Jesus says make sure whatever you spend your whole life working for the food that perishes make sure whatever you do that you get this food that endures to eternal life. Now I want then to make three very simple observations about this food that endures to eternal life first for us to see that Jesus gives it second that it is in Jesus himself and therefore when Jesus becomes yours this life that is in him will become yours as well." [00:06:39]

"Jesus gives eternal life verse 27 do not work for the food that perishes but for the food that endures to eternal life which the son of man will give to you do you notice the contrast between work and give our whole lives we work to get the food that perishes Jesus says he will give the food that endures to eternal life." [00:07:14]

"Jesus therefore is saying I am offering to you something that is greater than the manna in the wilderness verse 50 the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat of it and not die that's the contrast that he's making verse 58 whoever feeds on this bread will live forever." [00:09:58]

"Think about this friends, you will lose everything you love and enjoy in this world, life, career, family, possessions it's all passing away it's an unavoidable reality foolish to pretend otherwise and when you see that you will begin to have an appetite for the life that is eternal and you'll see that that's far more important than everything that presses in on the mind and the heart that's weak." [00:13:20]

"If you have eternal life, your experience in this world is the closest thing you will ever know to hell because what lies ahead of you is only good and infinitely better if you have eternal life then whatever you are facing in this world is the worst it will ever be for you it's as bad as it gets in this life for you." [00:14:34]

"Jesus gives eternal life this eternal life that Jesus gives is in himself it follows then that when Jesus becomes yours the eternal life that is in him and that he is ready to give and to share with you will become yours so then how does Jesus become yours notice very clearly Jesus does not belong to any of us by default." [00:20:51]

"Jesus describes the good of what he accomplished on the cross becoming ours in terms of eating or in terms of feeding notice how he used the words feed in verse 54 whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks on my blood has eternal life and I will raise him up on the last day or verse 57 whoever feeds on me he also will live because of me." [00:22:51]

"Jesus gives us eternal life that's why it's not earned that's why it's not merited that's why he uses the word give he does not give you a list of certain things to do he does not say do this and then you will earn this everlasting life no he has done all that is needed when he died on the cross and eternal life becomes yours not by adding another work to what Jesus has already done but believing in by believing in what Jesus has accomplished for you on the cross." [00:26:02]

"Jesus becomes ours by believing see at the center of the Christian faith is so wonderful it's not simply a creed not simply a code of ethics at the very center of the Christian faith is a person this glorious person Jesus Christ who offers himself to us and he has life in himself and when by faith we become his the life that is in him truly becomes ours." [00:28:01]

"Jesus Christ himself will bring and sustain eternal life in your soul so that he says in verse 57 whoever feeds on me will live because of me and notice the present tense feeds this is not you know whoever once just had a decision of believing a long time ago or whatever he's saying there is a living union that faith brings about in which your inner life is nourished by the very presence of the son of God within you by the holy spirit it's marvelous." [00:29:53]

"So the words of Jesus very clearly bring every single one of us to a point of decision and either you will turn from Jesus you see I can't have anything to do with that and eternal life will not be in you or you will come to Jesus you will believe in Jesus and you will feed on Jesus and the food that endures to eternal life will be in you and you will live forever."
