### Quotes for Outreach
1. "Jesus said, the spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I've spoken to you are spirit and life. And if you were to ask what would be the theme of this whole chapter, this would be it. This would be the theme of the whole passage, that Jesus was continually calling those followers to think about the spiritual, not the material. And so it is with us. Jesus is constantly calling us to think about the spiritual matters more than the material."

### Quotes for Members
1. "For many, it was just too hard to follow Jesus. They left, not because they didn't understand. And here's the key, right? It's not that they didn't understand. They left because they actually understood what Jesus said, but couldn't accept it. They couldn't accept that Jesus was talking about having them focus on spiritual things, things that don't perish. They could not accept that Jesus, the Messiah, lived among them instead of descending from the heavens. And they could not accept that Jesus said that he will ascend back to heaven."

2. "And so as we conclude this time together, Jesus reminds us again that he chose the 12 disciples, that Jesus handpicked them. And in this room, and for those who are joining online, trust in Jesus, the giver of eternal life. You're all... You're all here at different stages in your spiritual walk with Jesus. Some of you are still young in the faith, learning to trust God, learning about the promises that he made and how he kept them. My encouragement to you is to learn from those who are mature in the faith. Some of you here have had a long abiding relationship with Jesus. You've gone through the fires of life, the uncertainties and the challenges, and you've actually come to know Jesus. You've come out stronger, more patient, more loving, more mature. You've probably failed many times, and yet you see God's mighty hand pick you up and you have seen the community of faith around you pray for you, support you, and love you back into a trusting relationship with God."

3. "And Simon Peter, the spokesman of the group, he says this, Lord, to whom would we go? We have the words that, give eternal life. We believe and we know you are the Holy One of God. And so this is the declaration of loyalty to Jesus. His words are actually significant and it's a wonderful statement of faith. And I just want to highlight it for you on the next slide. Peter recognized that Jesus was Lord. He recognized that Jesus was actually the preferred alternative despite the difficulties of what Jesus was teaching and what he was said had said but they had followed and they understood or they had seen enough of what Jesus was doing to to stick around."

4. "And so as we continue with this passage, Jesus, he actually then turns to the 12 and he asks, are you also going to leave? According to biblical scholars, the mood of the question was not about despair or rejection because many who had followed Jesus were leaving, right? It sounds like, are you leaving also? No, no. This question was about Jesus actually searching the motives of the 12. The 12 disciples that were left. According to the original language, the answer to the question, are you going to leave? The assumption is that the answer would be no. I suppose if you were to ask it another way, you would be asking, like, you don't want to go away too, do you? That's the sort of the mood of the question."

5. "And I've had a lot of time to think about this process. And for me, it feels messy and it feels chaotic because I don't have, I suppose, control over every single step. But we've intentionally designed it this way because we want to make space for God and to allow us to play in the space of trusting God in this process. And it's my belief that as much as I want you to grow and mature and point others to this life-changing knowing of Jesus, it is actually the work of the Holy Spirit, God's Holy Spirit in your life that will actually cause you to grow, that will cause you to be transformed, to live in such a way that causes you to have Jesus central to your life."
