Embracing Salvation: Faith, Sanctification, and Fellowship
Devotional
Day 1: God's Eternal Election and Our Response
God's eternal election is a profound truth that reveals His love and purpose for us. From the foundation of the world, God chose us for salvation, orchestrating it through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth. This divine election is not a passive decree but an active invitation to engage with God's redemptive work in our lives. It is a call to recognize that our salvation is not left to chance but is a deliberate act of God's grace. As we reflect on this, we are invited to respond with gratitude and a willingness to participate in His plan for our lives. [00:23]
Ephesians 1:4-5 (ESV): "Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will."
Reflection: How does understanding God's intentional choice of you for salvation change the way you view your relationship with Him today?
Day 2: The Active Process of Sanctification
Sanctification by the Spirit is the process by which we are made holy, set apart for God's purposes. It is not a passive experience but an active engagement with the Spirit's work in our lives. This ongoing process requires our active participation and cooperation with the Spirit's leading. As we yield to the Spirit, we are transformed and equipped for the purposes God has for us. This transformation is not about our efforts but about allowing the Spirit to work in us, producing holiness and setting us apart for His glory. [01:35]
2 Corinthians 3:18 (ESV): "And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit."
Reflection: In what ways can you actively engage with the Spirit's work in your life today to further your sanctification?
Day 3: Embracing Faith in the Truth
Faith in the truth is not merely intellectual assent but a heartfelt embrace of the gospel. It involves loving the truth, delighting in God's promises, and allowing the truth to transform our hearts and lives. This faith is the means by which the Spirit works in us to produce holiness. As we hear and embrace the truth with faith, the Spirit is supplied to us, leading to our sanctification. It is a dynamic relationship where faith and the Spirit's work are intertwined, resulting in a life that reflects the character of Christ. [06:52]
Hebrews 11:1 (ESV): "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen."
Reflection: What specific truth from God's Word can you embrace today to deepen your faith and allow the Spirit to transform you?
Day 4: The Interplay of Faith and Sanctification
The relationship between faith and sanctification is crucial. Faith is the means by which the Spirit works in us to produce holiness. As we hear the truth and embrace it with faith, the Spirit is supplied to us, leading to our sanctification. This process is not about our works or efforts but about resting in the truth and allowing the Spirit to transform us. It is a journey of trust and surrender, where our faith opens the door for the Spirit to work powerfully in our lives, shaping us into the image of Christ. [09:38]
Galatians 3:2-3 (ESV): "Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?"
Reflection: How can you intentionally rest in the truth today, allowing your faith to invite the Spirit's transformative work in your life?
Day 5: Salvation as Everlasting Fellowship with Christ
Salvation is not just a rescue from wrath but an invitation into everlasting fellowship with Jesus. It is an objective accomplishment through Christ's death and resurrection, appropriated in our lives through the Spirit's sanctifying work and our faith in the truth. This fellowship is a relationship of love, intimacy, and communion with Christ, where we experience the fullness of His presence and the joy of being united with Him. As we embrace this truth, we are invited to live in the reality of this fellowship, experiencing the abundant life that Christ offers. [04:57]
John 17:3 (ESV): "And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent."
Reflection: What steps can you take today to deepen your fellowship with Christ and experience the fullness of His presence in your life?
Sermon Summary
In our exploration of 2 Thessalonians 2:13-17, we delve into the profound truth of God's eternal election and the means by which salvation is realized in our lives. From the foundation of the world, God chose us for salvation, not leaving it to chance but orchestrating it through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth. These two elements are not merely theological concepts but are the very pathways through which we enter into eternal life with Christ.
Sanctification by the Spirit is the process by which we are made holy, set apart for God's purposes. It is not a passive experience but an active engagement with the Spirit's work in our lives. This sanctification is intricately linked with our faith in the truth. Faith, in this context, is not just an intellectual assent to doctrinal truths but a deep, heartfelt embrace of the gospel. It is a love for the truth, a delight in the promises of God, and a transformation of the heart that welcomes the gospel's gift.
Salvation, therefore, is not just a rescue from wrath but an invitation into everlasting fellowship with Jesus. It is an objective accomplishment through Christ's death and resurrection, appropriated in our lives through the Spirit's sanctifying work and our faith in the truth. As we continue to explore these themes, let us remain open to the Spirit's leading and committed to embracing the truth with faith.

Sermon Clips
God does not leave to chance how this salvation comes about, how, and he says here we are chosen for salvation through two things: sanctification of the spirit and through faith or belief in the truth. There's no difference in Greek between the word faith and belief; there are two words, there's just one, pistis, faith in the truth. [00:47:46]
If God shows you that you are chosen from the foundation of the world, don't ever say, "Oh, if I'm chosen by God to be saved from before the foundation of the world, then I don't need to do anything. I don't need to believe the truth. I don't need to be sanctified." [00:118:20]
God chose not only the persons to be saved, the persons, the end, he chose the means through sanctification. There isn't any other way into salvation at the end of the age and eternal life in the kingdom of God. There isn't any other way than through the path along the path of sanctification. [00:176:04]
Salvation negatively is deliverance from wrath, and salvation positively is eternal life with Christ. The key is objective events, and one of those key events was the death of Christ for us, that is, in our place. Here it is again in first Thessalonians 1, you are waiting for his son from Heaven. [00:256:26]
Rescue from wrath into Everlasting fellowship with Jesus is the objective accomplishment of salvation. But here the question is, okay, Christ has accomplished that for his people, how do we appropriate it so that we are included in that glorious rescue from Wrath and fellowship with Jesus? [00:297:00]
The truth here is the gospel. Can see that in the preceding verses as well. We spend a lot of time on these, the coming of the Lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders with all Wicked deception for those who are perishing because they did not welcome a love for the truth. [00:333:78]
When it says we are saved through faith in the truth, it doesn't just mean like the devil believing that the truth exists. I mean, the devil believes probably more true doctrine that is, he's aware of it and knows it's true. Faith in the truth that saves is not awareness that truth exists; it's an Embrace of the truth. [00:408:00]
Faith in the truth is the means to sanctification of the spirit. Spirit is the key, right? Spirit is the key to making us holy. But what do we do? What's our conscious experience of engaging the work of the spirit on our behalf so that we are made holy? And I'm going to argue that the answer is faith. [00:469:03]
To this end, we always pray for you that our God may make you worthy of his calling, in other words, sanctify you, and may fulfill is how he does it, every resolve for good and every work of Faith by his power. Now based on that phrase right there, work of faith, I'm suggesting that the work that shows us to be transformed. [00:502:62]
Faith hears the truth, and Faith Embraces and rests in the truth that is heard, and the result is that the spirit is supplied. Did you catch that? He supplies the Spirit by the hearing with faith. So when faith hears the truth, the word of God, the promises of God, the gospel of God, and Embraces it, Delights in it, loves it. [00:581:28]
The Spirit's work to produce sanctification. Now, how does sanctification, how does becoming holy, how does being changed actually result from that process? That's what I want to look at briefly next time. [00:617:46]
God does not, in this choosing, from the beginning, from before the foundation of the world, based on an eternal electing love, God does not leave to chance how this salvation comes about. [00:28:26]
