Embracing Resurrection: Hope, Grace, and New Beginnings
Summary
On this Resurrection Sunday, we gather to celebrate the cornerstone of our faith: the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Over 2,000 years ago, women found an empty tomb and were told by an angel that Jesus had risen, just as He promised. This event is not just a historical moment but a living reality that impacts our lives today. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to us, offering transformation and hope.
As we reflect on the events leading to the resurrection, we remember Jesus' agony in the Garden of Gethsemane, where He experienced profound sorrow and stress. This reminds us that Jesus understands our struggles and anxieties. He was tested in every way, yet without sin, making Him a compassionate Savior who empathizes with our weaknesses.
The Gospel of John offers profound insights into Jesus' love and grace. John, who referred to himself as "the one Jesus loved," illustrates through various stories that Jesus' love is not exclusive but inclusive. The woman at the well, the woman caught in adultery, and the blind man all experienced transformative encounters with Jesus. These stories reveal that in Christ, our past does not dictate our future, and we don't always receive what we deserve. Instead, we receive grace and new beginnings.
The crucifixion of Jesus, a brutal and humiliating death, was the ultimate act of love. Even in His suffering, Jesus prayed for His executioners, demonstrating that God's forgiveness is available to all. The thief on the cross, who recognized Jesus' divinity, was promised paradise, showing that salvation is a gift of grace, not earned by deeds.
As we celebrate Easter, let us embrace the truth that we are all "whosoever" in God's eyes. We are loved, forgiven, and invited into a relationship with Him. This is a time to reflect on the depth of God's love and the power of the resurrection to bring new life and hope.

Devotional
Day 1: Resurrection Power in Our Lives
The resurrection of Jesus is not merely a historical event but a present reality that offers transformation and hope. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to us today, enabling us to overcome challenges and live a life of purpose. This power is not just about overcoming physical death but also about experiencing new life in our daily struggles and victories. As we embrace this truth, we are invited to live with a renewed sense of purpose and hope, knowing that the resurrection power is at work within us. [00:00]
Ephesians 1:19-20 (ESV): "And what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places."
Reflection: What is one area in your life where you need to experience the resurrection power of Jesus? How can you invite Him into that area today?
Day 2: Jesus' Empathy in Our Struggles
Jesus' experience of sorrow and stress in the Garden of Gethsemane shows that He understands our struggles. He empathizes with our weaknesses and offers us comfort and strength in times of anxiety and fear. In moments of deep distress, Jesus chose to pray and seek the Father's will, demonstrating a profound trust in God's plan. This reminds us that we are not alone in our struggles; Jesus walks with us, offering His empathy and strength. [02:00]
Hebrews 4:15-16 (ESV): "For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need."
Reflection: In what specific situation do you need to feel Jesus' empathy and strength today? How can you draw near to Him in this moment?
Day 3: Inclusive Love of Jesus
The stories in the Gospel of John illustrate that Jesus' love is inclusive. He seeks out those who feel unworthy or marginalized, offering them grace and new beginnings. In Christ, our past does not dictate our future. Jesus' interactions with individuals like the woman at the well and the blind man reveal that His love breaks down barriers and offers hope to all. This inclusive love invites us to see ourselves and others through the lens of grace and possibility. [09:39]
Galatians 3:28 (ESV): "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
Reflection: Who in your life might feel marginalized or unworthy? How can you extend Jesus' inclusive love to them today?
Day 4: Grace Over Deserved Consequences
In Christ, we don't always receive what we deserve. Jesus' intervention in the life of the woman caught in adultery shows that grace triumphs over judgment, offering us forgiveness and a fresh start. This act of grace is a powerful reminder that God's love is not based on our actions but on His character. As recipients of this grace, we are called to extend the same forgiveness and compassion to others, recognizing that we are all in need of grace. [15:39]
Titus 3:4-5 (ESV): "But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit."
Reflection: Is there someone you need to forgive or show grace to today? How can you take a step towards offering them the same grace you have received?
Day 5: Experiencing God Beyond Understanding
We don't need to fully understand God to experience His presence and love. Even in moments of doubt and confusion, God is with us, guiding and transforming our lives. This truth invites us to trust in God's presence, even when we cannot see the full picture. As we open our hearts to His love, we find that His presence is enough to sustain us through life's uncertainties. [22:29]
Isaiah 55:8-9 (ESV): "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you struggle to understand God's plan? How can you trust His presence and love in that area today?
Quotes
Have you been under some stress lately? I mean, if you understand what it's like to feel anxiety and depression, maybe fear, maybe you're worried about how things are going to turn out. Well, it's important that the Bible says Jesus was tested in every way just like we are, yet without sin. I think that's important because when you go through the things you go through, you need to pray to a Savior who understands the feelings that you're dealing with. [00:02:53] (26 seconds)
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. That's a beautiful phrase. I put it up here in the old King James version because it's nostalgic for me. I remember it when I was a kid memorizing this in kids' church in the King James version. And I also remember that's the first time I ever heard of the word whosoever. [00:08:13] (29 seconds)
just to meet with her and it reveals this reality that your sin and your mistakes that that's not something that pushes Jesus away from you it's what attracts Jesus to you that's a very important reality because there's so much religious ideas out there and there's so many people who are presenting a different gospel that if you don't dress the way we want you to dress you don't vote for who we want you to vote for and you don't say and believe and pray and act the way we want you don't really fit in [00:13:05] (29 seconds)
In Christ, your past does not predict your future. In fact, the Bible says if you are in Christ, all things have become new. The old is gone and you are a new creation in Christ Jesus. [00:14:56] (16 seconds)
And I'd love to know the rest of her story. I'd love to know that after she came, I know that she became an evangelist. She went back to the city and told everybody about Jesus. I'd love to see how her life changed, but that moment with Jesus sparked a difference that was different for the rest of her life. Your past doesn't have to predict your future when you're in Christ. Then we went to John chapter 8, and there's a story of a woman who was caught in the act of adultery. [00:15:58] (24 seconds)
and so what Jesus said is you know what you're not qualified for that you work on you and I'll work on everybody else go and encourage your neighbor and say just work on you it's a full time job tell them right now it's a full time job just work on you and so they walked away they dropped their stones they walked away and Jesus saved that woman's life that day and here's the second thing you learn from these stories of Jesus watch this that in Christ you don't always get what you deserve oh you ought to smile somebody say amen I don't want what I deserve let that sink in just for a minute that's what grace means [00:19:04] (39 seconds)
I told you I was on fire. I said, I'll tell you the kind of church we're running, Gene. We're running a church where what you were doesn't determine what you're going to be. Where you've been doesn't tell me where you're going. What they say is not what he says. [00:22:57] (12 seconds)
