God’s love for you is not based on your ability to impress Him or perform for Him. Unlike human relationships, where we often feel the need to showcase our best moments or knowledge to gain approval, God already knows every part of you—your highlights and your lowlights. He is not looking for you to boast or outdo others; He simply delights in you as His beloved child. There is no need to strive for His attention or affection, because you already have it. Rest in the assurance that you are fully known and fully loved by your heavenly Father, and let go of the pressure to earn His favor. [02:28]
James 4:6-8 (ESV)
"But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, 'God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.' Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded."
Reflection: In what area of your life do you find yourself striving to impress God or others? How can you intentionally rest in your identity as His beloved child today, letting go of the need to perform?
While you don’t need to impress God, you can bring Him pleasure by living with integrity, seeking wisdom, and turning from wrongdoing. God is pleased not by outward displays or perfection, but by a heart that seeks Him, chooses honesty, and turns away from sin. Just as He was pleased with Solomon’s request for wisdom, Moses’ faithful leadership, and Jesus’ obedience, God delights in your sincere efforts to walk in His ways. Pleasing God is not burdensome; it flows naturally from a relationship of love and trust, and it is accessible to all who seek Him with humility. [05:52]
1 Chronicles 29:17 (ESV)
"I know, my God, that you test the heart and have pleasure in uprightness. In the uprightness of my heart I have freely offered all these things, and now I have seen your people, who are present here, offering freely and joyously to you."
Reflection: What is one area where you can choose integrity or turn from a harmful habit today, knowing that this brings pleasure to God?
As children of God, you are also children of light, called to live in the freedom, joy, and transparency that the light brings. Living in the light means being open, vulnerable, and genuine—letting go of masks, exaggerations, and hiddenness. It is about allowing God’s truth to shine into every part of your life, producing goodness, righteousness, and truth. When you embrace your identity as a child of light, you become more authentic and less influenced by darkness, reflecting God’s character to the world around you. [11:51]
Ephesians 5:8-10 (ESV)
"For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord."
Reflection: Where in your life do you feel tempted to hide or wear a mask? What is one step you can take today to live more openly and authentically as a child of light?
You are deeply valued by God, worth the greatest price—Jesus’ own life. Like a precious pearl, you are easily damaged by the wrong environment or by the wounds of sin, both those done to you and those you commit. Sin diminishes and dents your true self, but God calls you to guard your heart and integrity, seeking His healing and forgiveness when you are hurt or when you fall short. Remember your worth and let God restore and protect the beauty He sees in you, so you can live out your true value. [18:40]
Matthew 13:45-46 (ESV)
"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it."
Reflection: What is one way you can protect your heart or seek God’s healing for a wound or sin that has diminished your sense of worth?
Through Jesus, you are made clean, pure, and holy—symbolized in baptism and renewed daily as you walk with Him. Just as pearls need to be wiped clean after use, you need regular spiritual cleansing through prayer, Scripture, and worship. No matter your past, you are given a fresh start and the gift of the Holy Spirit. Embrace your new identity, letting go of shame and guilt, and live in the freedom and joy of being made new in Christ. [22:01]
Titus 3:4-7 (ESV)
"But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life."
Reflection: Is there an area of your life where you still feel unclean or burdened by past mistakes? How can you receive and walk in the cleansing and new life Jesus offers you today?
Over the past weeks, we have explored the profound truth of our identity in Christ. Each of us is a treasured possession, a beloved child of the living God, a royal priest, an heir with Christ, and a vital part of the church—God’s body on earth. We are welcomed to build our lives near God’s altar, to make our home in His presence. The invitation today is simple yet deeply challenging: be who you are. This is not a call to strive or perform, but to rest in the reality of who God says we are.
There is no need to impress God. Unlike our relationships with people, where we might feel pressure to showcase our best moments or knowledge, God sees us fully—both our highlights and our low points. He is never impressed by our efforts, but He is pleased when we walk in humility, integrity, and love. God’s pleasure is not earned by performance but flows from our relationship with Him. When we love God, obedience becomes a natural outflow, not a burdensome requirement. As Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments”—not as a test, but as a result of love.
Even when we stumble or make poor choices, our heavenly Father is ready to rescue, restore, and protect us. Just as some are spared from disaster by the intervention of loving parents, so God, in His grace, pursues us, offers us better options, and helps us return to who we truly are. We have been transferred from darkness to light, called to live as children of the light—open, honest, and authentic. This means letting go of masks, exaggerations, and deceptions, and embracing a life of transparency and truth.
We are of immense worth—Jesus paid the highest price for us, declaring us pearls of great price. Yet, like pearls, we are vulnerable to damage from our environment and from the sins done to us and by us. Sin diminishes us, but God’s grace restores. Regular “washing”—through Scripture, prayer, and worship—keeps us clean and whole. Baptism powerfully symbolizes this new identity: clean, holy, righteous, and joined to God’s family.
So, remember who you are. Live out your true identity as God’s beloved, cleansed, and valued child. Let your life reflect the light, love, and royalty that is yours in Christ.
John 14:15 (ESV) — > “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”
2. Ephesians 5:8-10 (ESV)
> “For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.”
3. Matthew 13:45-46 (ESV)
> “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.”
You are a child of the living God. So you don't need to impress God. You don't need to impress him. So sometimes we feel we have to impress our parents, don't we? Sometimes we feel we have to impress other people, but we never need to impress our heavenly father. [00:01:21] (24 seconds) #NoNeedToImpressGod
You can please God. And it's not hard to do. As we love God and allow him to love us, it's easy to bring him pleasure, to please him because he likes you, because you're his child. Be who you are. [00:06:35] (20 seconds) #LoveLeadsToObedience
If you love me, it will naturally follow that you keep my commandments. If you love me, you'll find yourself keeping my commandments. If you love me, you'll keep my commandments. Be who you are. You're a loved child of God. And that means you'll find yourself doing what God wants you to do. You'll find yourself obeying. You'll find yourself pleasing him. You'll find yourself doing the things that please the one you love. [00:08:08] (30 seconds) #ThreeDecisionsAway
But whether or not you've had that, you have a heavenly father. You have a heavenly father who loves you, who is concerned for you. You have a heavenly father who will waste his resources on you. You have a father in heaven who will chase after you. You have a father who will put you in a better frame of mind. You have a father who will rescue you, a father who has your back, a father who will protect you from justice. You have a father who will give you better options. You are his child. He will help you be who you are. [00:10:23] (37 seconds) #ChildrenOfTheLight
You're a child of God. You're a child of the light. You can live in the freedom and joy of the light. Be who you are. It means being a little more open. You're living in the light. It means being a little more vulnerable. There's the light shining in. It means being a little more transparent. It means being a little less devious, means being honest and truthful, means opening yourself up to the sun, means not living with hype or exaggeration or masks, means being real, it means being authentic, means being genuine, live as children of light, because that's who you are. [00:11:39] (51 seconds) #LiveAsLight
You were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light, for light produces every kind of goodness, righteousness and truth. What Paul's saying there is be who you are. Live as children of light. Be who you are. [00:12:31] (25 seconds) #PearlOfGreatPrice
You're meant to wipe pearls after you've used them. Just to...When Jesus was in the upper room with Peter, he wanted to wash his feet. And Peter said, no, give me a bath. And Jesus said, you've already had a bath this year. You just need your feet washed. You just need your feet washed. You're a pearl of great price. Sometimes you just need your feet washed. Just because you've been walking around. Maggie says that the reason her bangles get dented is because she wears them. You sometimes need your feet washed. Scripture will do that. That'll wash you. Prayer will do that. That'll wash you. Worship does that. It washes you. You're a pearl of great price. Be who you are. Be who you are. You are clean. [00:19:32] (71 seconds) #CleanThroughChrist
Whatever life you've lived until that point, you start to follow Jesus, you're clean. It's a symbol of receiving the Holy Spirit. Whatever you've been into spiritually up to that point, when you start to follow Jesus, you start to receive the Holy Spirit. It's a symbol of being pure and holy and righteous. Because that's who you are. [00:21:55] (26 seconds) #RememberYourIdentity
Remember that you're a child of God. Remember that you are a pearl of great price, a treasured possession. Remember that you're part of his body on earth. Remember that you're building near his temple. Sorry, near his altar in the temple. Remember that you're a royal priesthood, a co-heir with Christ. Remember who you are and be who you are.
