Embracing Our Purpose: Unity and Transformation in Christ
Summary
In today's message, we explored the profound truth that God has placed us in this specific time and place for a purpose. We are not here by coincidence, and despite the chaos in the world, there is hope and potential for transformation through the power of God working within us. Reflecting on Ephesians 1:3, we are reminded that God can do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine. This power is not just theoretical; it is real and active in our lives today.
We also delved into the sacredness of God's Word and the importance of approaching it with reverence. Unlike suggestions from a therapist, the commands in Scripture are from our Master, and they demand our obedience. This concept of command is often foreign in our culture, where personal choice and control are highly valued. However, as followers of Christ, we are called to submit to His Lordship, recognizing that He is both Savior and King.
The message challenged us to reconsider our understanding of the church. It is not merely a building or a place to attend on Sundays, but a living body of believers called to embody the teachings of Ephesians 4. We are to be a community marked by humility, gentleness, patience, and love, striving for unity and maturity in Christ. This vision of the church requires each member to actively participate and use their gifts for the building up of the body.
Finally, we were encouraged to have faith in the possibility of becoming the church God desires. Despite past discouragements and failures, we are called to pursue this vision with renewed hope and determination. The Holy Spirit is at work among us, and with His help, we can become a holy, united, and loving community that reflects the fullness of Christ.

Day 1: Embracing Divine Purpose in Chaos
God has placed each of us in this specific time and place for a reason. Despite the chaos and uncertainty that may surround us, there is a profound purpose in our existence here and now. This purpose is not random or coincidental; it is divinely orchestrated. We are called to embrace this purpose with the understanding that God can do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine. His power is not just a concept but a reality that is active in our lives today. As we navigate through life's challenges, we must hold onto the hope and potential for transformation that comes from God's power working within us. [00:31]
Ephesians 3:20-21 (ESV): "Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen."
Reflection: In what specific area of your life do you feel God is calling you to embrace His purpose despite the chaos around you? How can you actively seek His guidance and power in this area today?
Day 2: Reverence and Obedience to God's Word
The Bible is not merely a collection of suggestions or advice; it is the authoritative Word of God that demands our reverence and obedience. In a culture that often prioritizes personal choice and autonomy, the concept of submitting to divine authority can be challenging. However, as followers of Christ, we are called to approach Scripture with a heart of submission, recognizing that its commands come from our Master. This requires a shift in mindset from one of control to one of surrender, trusting that God's ways are higher than our own. [04:37]
Isaiah 55:8-9 (ESV): "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."
Reflection: What is one command from Scripture that you find difficult to obey? How can you cultivate a heart of reverence and submission to God's Word in this area?
Day 3: Redefining Church as a Living Community
The church is not just a building or a place to attend on Sundays; it is a living body of believers called to embody the teachings of Ephesians 4. This vision of the church requires each member to actively participate and use their gifts for the building up of the body. We are called to be a community marked by humility, gentleness, patience, and love, striving for unity and maturity in Christ. This redefinition of church challenges us to move beyond passive attendance and engage in the mission of being the church God desires. [16:55]
1 Corinthians 12:12-14 (ESV): "For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For the body does not consist of one member but of many."
Reflection: How can you actively contribute to the unity and growth of your church community? What specific gifts or talents can you offer to build up the body of Christ?
Day 4: Faith in the Transformative Power of God
Despite past discouragements and failures, we are called to have faith in the possibility of becoming the church God desires. The Holy Spirit is at work among us, and with His help, we can become a holy, united, and loving community that reflects the fullness of Christ. This transformation is not something we achieve on our own; it is a work of God within us. We must pursue this vision with renewed hope and determination, trusting that God is faithful to complete the work He has begun in us. [30:49]
Philippians 1:6 (ESV): "And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ."
Reflection: What past discouragements or failures have hindered your faith in God's transformative power? How can you renew your hope and trust in His work within you and your community today?
Day 5: Commitment to Unity and Growth in Christ
We are called to maintain the unity of the Spirit and grow into maturity in Christ. This requires humility, patience, and a commitment to building each other up. As a community of believers, we must strive to be a place where love and encouragement prevail, reflecting God's intention for the church. This commitment to unity and growth is not passive; it requires intentional effort and dedication from each member. By fostering an environment of support and accountability, we can collectively grow into the fullness of Christ. [32:00]
Ephesians 4:15-16 (ESV): "Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love."
Reflection: In what ways can you contribute to the unity and growth of your church community? How can you encourage and support others in their spiritual journey today?
Quotes
God Build Your Kingdom Here use the church and God take this nation back and sometimes we can sing songs like that but in our hearts there's a lot of Doubt like okay is that really going to happen though versus the hope of wait this could seriously happen happen um we could seriously I mean this is what we were created for and he placed us here in this time like it's not coincidence that you're alive right now in 2024. [00:00:11]
I don't know about you but as I read the word of God I'm not cynical I'm not doubtful I'm actually very hopeful going this could happen and I'm pretty fired up about it and actually believing this because we just studied Ephesians 1:3 and he says we can actually do things through the power in us that are beyond what we could ask or imagine like he can do that that through the power that's at work within us. [00:01:07]
When I sing these songs about the church and as we study Ephesians 4 I'm going God this could happen like I said a couple weeks ago I feel like I've been chasing Ephesians 4 for years like God I still I still haven't tasted this but I know it's possible everything I read in those first three chapters makes me go this could happen and this could be the time and it excites me. [00:02:14]
I think everything can become like uh ordinary or we can uh get distracted or what's the word I'm looking for like it just it just loses its uh its power it gets deluded common you remember when I we first came here and I said okay when we read from the Bible this space is for reading the Bible and taking of communion this is sacred. [00:03:44]
Sometimes I think we can go to churches hear a sermon and we listen to it the same way that we would listen to a therapist where the therapist gives you some suggestions and you decide whether you want to apply it or not rather than listen to it as commands from your master that's a big difference suggestions from a therapist or commands from your master. [00:05:12]
The whole idea of that that the concept of a command is very foreign to this generation just the thought of a command we're just not used to commands where we're just told something we don't have a choice we just have to obey I mean some of you have never felt the weight of a command depending on the home you were raised in everything's up for grabs. [00:07:38]
Jesus is Lord like that's who he is he doesn't change that it it be like you saying hey Francis can I be can you be my friend but I don't want you to be my Chinese friend okay how do I do that you know it's it's just that whole mindset of hey Jesus can you be my savior but can you I want to be in your kingdom but I don't want you to be king. [00:09:00]
Blessed are those whose way is blameless who walk in the law of the Lord blessed are those who keep his testimonies who seek him with their whole heart who also do no wrong but walk in his ways you have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statues then I shall not be put to shame. [00:12:31]
I want to go one more time let's be this church because let's look at some of these verses we'll kind of Breeze through it kind of give you an overview of chapter 4 and then we'll we'll go into more detail but with all humility and gentleness with patience bearing with one another in love eager to maintain the unity of the spirit in the bond of Peace. [00:32:00]
The idea is he wants a group of people like who we are supposed to be and what he what God wants us to become he wants us to be the most humble people on the planet he says with all humility and gentleness I think that's what was grieving my soul when I was on YouTube and I'm looking I'm like is this humble is the world seeing humility. [00:32:00]
He gave the apostles the prophets the evangelists the Shepherds and teachers to equip the Saints for the work of Ministry for building up the body of Christ until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God to mature manhood to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. [00:36:39]
From whom the whole body joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped when each part is working properly makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love see when you were joining the church you're joining a body and there is no part of the body that is unnecessary.
