Sermon Summary

Sermon Clips

"Peter writes to encourage his friends and spiritual family. Although you are being left out of society, they were locked in God. Sorry. For though they were being left out of society, they were locked into God who saw them differently and had a wonderful role for them to fulfill in their corner of his world." [00:05:21] (26 seconds)

"But to those who do not believe, this stone the builders reject, rejected, has become the capstone. A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall. They stumble because they disobey the message, which is also what they were destined for. But you, this is for you people, but you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." [00:06:29] (41 seconds)

"The way we view an event can be very different between those who are watching. And in the same way, people's wrong perceptions or ideas of the church is one of the big problems facing the church. Today. Ideas that occur in and out of the church. Some churches see themselves to be social clubs. Some are political action committees. Some are instruments of social justice. And some seem to have no idea at all what their purpose is." [00:09:41] (39 seconds)

"In Peter 2, verse 9, Peter says four things about the church. He says it's a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and a people belonging to God. All expressions are taken from the Old Testament. Specifically, Isaiah 19, verse 6, and Isaiah 43, 20 and 21. And they referred, of course, to Israel. But Peter's now saying that these titles apply to the Christian church. We are chosen. Royal. Holy. Special." [00:11:06] (49 seconds)

"Because we are called out of darkness into light. Peter's words are wonderful. They stress the special relationship that we enjoy with God, though sometimes we don't act that way or believe that. But he called us out of our darkness and sin, touching us with the light of Jesus. The light of his love, mercy, grace, and holiness." [00:14:33] (36 seconds)

"When God called us out of darkness of this world, he gave us the responsibility to be the light to this world. And you may be wondering how you're going to fulfill that purpose of lighting a dark world. Well, just like Peter's first century Christian audience, we are priests. Not just priests in your average priesthood, we are priests in God's royal, holy priesthood." [00:15:13] (38 seconds)

"Darkness in the Bible can also represent a sinful lifestyle, but we, all of us, Christians, have been called out of that lifestyle. And in contrast to darkness, light is the domain of Jesus. In John 8 .12, it's recorded that Jesus said, I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness." [00:16:27] (33 seconds)

"The physical need may last a lifetime, but spiritual need may last for eternity. And a person without Christ will go to hell. We don't often say that in church, but that's the truth of the word. Therefore, we are sent to proclaim And there is a danger in our enthusiasm to forget the gospel comes first. Good works follow." [00:19:35] (42 seconds)

"Salvation does not come by our good deeds to others, but as Paul said, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ. We cannot do that. expect people to come to know Christ if we don't tell them. It may seem obvious but that's the way it is." [00:20:15] (25 seconds)

"The onus is on each and every one of us to start living as God's chosen people, to be that royal priesthood, that holy nation, declaring the praises of him, not just in church but day to day. To those who don't know him. We all have a story. We all, I believe, know Jesus as Savior and have a story to tell of what he's done for us. Well, tell that story." [00:21:08] (41 seconds)

"Proclaim the gospel because you are the chosen ones, chosen by God and chosen for the cross. And you're calling of priestly work chosen to be a holy people God's instruments to do his work and speak out for him to tell others of the night and day difference that he made for you taking you from nothing to something from rejected to accepted as Christians we are a chosen generation this shows how gracious God is because he chose us out of his love for us we are to be a holy nation because we have been set apart by God through our new life our citizenship is in heaven for all eternity I" [00:21:49] (59 seconds)
