"God is a god of new beginnings, so take a deep breath, let go of yesterday cause it's gone. Embrace today for this day is God's gift to you. Lift up your heart to him and together you and I are going to discover how to find God everywhere and how to begin again with him." [00:00:28]

"The opening lines of the Bible, in the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth, my friend Ron says that phrase is his favorite phrase in all of the English language because it suggests to us that there is a God who is a good god of new possibilities and queen slates and Fresh Starts and that's what we're going to learn together." [00:00:55]

"God has never stopped creating. Every moment that ticks off on the clock, every leaf on these gorgeous trees that I'm seeing, every bird that I hear singing and warmbling right now, there's turkeys in the background every once in a while, the leaves on those, every one of them exists because God says coming to me and coming to being coming to being." [00:03:12]

"God is also the god of what might be called renewing creation and here's what gets real personal. It was an 11th century Rabbi named Rashi, and he said there was an ancient rabbinic teaching that the Bible actually ought to start with Exodus chapter 12 verse 2. Now he wasn't actually trying to rearrange the Bible, it was a matter of interpretation." [00:04:02]

"God gave a new beginning to Adam and Eve when they messed up. God gave a new beginning to Noah, he gave a new beginning to Abraham, he gave a new beginning to Moses, and here's the thing, he wants to uh give you a new beginning. There was a old movie City Slickers, and one character that just messed up his life so bad." [00:05:13]

"But of course it takes a power that we do not have to make a do-over spiritual reality, but the God who said do it again to the son, the God who gives a do-over to the son every morning and a do over to the Moon every night gives you and me a do-over. So where do you want to do over?" [00:06:02]

"Several years ago I felt so defeated and discouraged because of a pain in my family and the phrase that kept going on in my mind was my poor broken family, and then a friend said to me words that changed my life. She said, um what does a healthy family look like for you, and I realized that I could let go of the pain." [00:06:33]

"I read about this actually just as kind of an exercise in mental health mental hygiene from a psychologist Martin Seligman a number of years ago, but I've adopted it to a form of prayer that I find really helpful. He says if you're struggling with something that gnaws at you, a sense of failure or worry or depression and you need a new beginning." [00:07:18]

"Think about this framework a b c d e, and I have carefully crafted that here for you. You walk through a is for antecedent, write down what's been going on. It's very helpful to write this down when you're anxious or stressed or worried, and you write it down it has a way of helping it not just ruminate forever." [00:07:41]

"Then D is where the creative presence of God comes in then D is I dispute it, and then after I've done that what are the effects so I will give you an example of this. I've been working really hard thinking about this series to walk through with you. I'm very excited about it I think the book of creation is so amazing." [00:08:19]

"How do I dispute these beliefs, what would God say? I've done like 500 of these episodes by now I preached my whole life long it would be unusual if that were all just gone in an instant. Plus I would admire somebody who still struggles and still seeks to learn the best they can even if they're in a difficult situation." [00:10:35]

"Where do you want a new beginning with God? Maybe it's to serve in a new way, maybe it's to find a new project, maybe it's in a relationship, maybe it's in your financial life, maybe it's caring for your body, maybe it's on an intellectual adventure, maybe it's a new beginning of reading God's word stunning through Jenison coming to see it in a new way." [00:11:49]
