Embracing Hope: Transforming Impossibilities into Divine Possibilities
Summary
In today's message, we explored the profound theme of hope and divine possibilities, drawing from the story of Mary in Luke 1:26-38. We began by reflecting on the journey of my grandmother, who, despite facing numerous health challenges, was sustained by hope and faith in God. Her story serves as a testament to the sustaining power of hope, a central theme of Christmas, which is embodied in the birth of Jesus Christ.
Mary's encounter with the angel Gabriel presents a scenario filled with impossibilities. She is told she will bear a son, Jesus, despite being a virgin. Her initial response is one of confusion and doubt, questioning how such a thing could be possible. Yet, the angel reassures her that this miraculous event will be a work of God, not of human effort. This narrative reminds us that life is often filled with seemingly insurmountable challenges, much like the ones faced by Mary, Daniel in the lion's den, or the Israelites at the Red Sea. These stories illustrate that while life is full of impossibilities, with God, divine possibilities emerge.
We are reminded that impossibilities can be intimidating and expose our lack of control, leading to insecurity. However, these moments are opportunities to witness God's power and faithfulness. The message of Christmas is that God is the God of possibilities. When we invite God into our lives, our impossibilities become possibilities. This is echoed in the words of Luke 1:37, "For with God, nothing shall be impossible," a sentiment that resonates throughout Scripture, from Genesis to Jeremiah to Job.
The essence of this message is that our faith fuels possibilities. We are encouraged to hold onto our faith, believing that God can transform our circumstances. Whether facing grief, financial challenges, or broken relationships, we are reminded that God is greater than any situation we face. The character of God—His omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience—assures us that He is capable of handling whatever we bring to Him. As we release our burdens to God, we trust in His ability to bring about divine possibilities in our lives.

Day 1: Hope as a Sustaining Force
Hope is a powerful force that sustains us through life's challenges. It is deeply rooted in faith and serves as a beacon of light in times of darkness. The story of the grandmother, who faced numerous health challenges yet remained hopeful, exemplifies this truth. Her unwavering faith in God provided her with the strength to persevere, illustrating that hope is not just a passive wish but an active trust in God's promises. This hope is central to the Christmas message, embodied in the birth of Jesus Christ, who brings light into the world. As we reflect on this, we are reminded that God is a God of hope, and through Him, we find the strength to endure and overcome life's adversities. [03:33]
Romans 15:13 (ESV): "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope."
Reflection: Think of a challenging situation you are currently facing. How can you actively place your hope in God to sustain you through it today?
Day 2: Embracing Divine Possibilities
Life often presents us with situations that seem impossible, much like Mary's encounter with the angel Gabriel. She was told she would bear a son despite being a virgin, a scenario filled with impossibilities. Her initial response was one of confusion and doubt, yet she was reassured that this miraculous event would be a work of God, not of human effort. This narrative reminds us that while life is full of seemingly insurmountable challenges, with God, divine possibilities emerge. These moments, though intimidating, are opportunities to witness God's power and faithfulness. We are encouraged to embrace these divine possibilities, trusting that God is greater than any situation we face. [11:09]
Jeremiah 32:17 (ESV): "Ah, Lord God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you."
Reflection: Identify an area in your life where you feel overwhelmed by impossibilities. How can you invite God into this situation to transform it into a divine possibility?
Day 3: The Power of Faith in Transformation
Our faith in God fuels the possibilities in our lives. By holding onto our faith, we can trust that God will transform our circumstances and bring about divine possibilities. This is echoed in the words of Luke 1:37, "For with God, nothing shall be impossible." Faith is not just a belief but an active trust in God's ability to work in our lives. Whether facing grief, financial challenges, or broken relationships, we are reminded that God is greater than any situation we encounter. As we release our burdens to God, we trust in His ability to bring about divine possibilities in our lives. [16:51]
Hebrews 11:1 (ESV): "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen."
Reflection: Reflect on a situation where you need transformation. How can you actively exercise your faith today to trust God for a breakthrough?
Day 4: Releasing Burdens to God
We are encouraged to release our burdens to God, trusting in His character and ability to handle whatever we bring to Him. In doing so, we open ourselves to the divine possibilities that God can bring into our lives. The character of God—His omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience—assures us that He is capable of handling whatever we bring to Him. As we release our burdens, we trust in His ability to bring about divine possibilities in our lives. This act of surrender is not a sign of weakness but a demonstration of faith in God's power and love. [38:16]
1 Peter 5:7 (ESV): "Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you."
Reflection: What burden are you holding onto that you need to release to God today? How can you practically cast this burden onto Him and trust in His care?
Day 5: Witnessing God's Faithfulness
The message of Christmas is that God is the God of possibilities. When we invite God into our lives, our impossibilities become possibilities. This is a testament to God's faithfulness, as seen in the lives of biblical figures like Mary and Daniel. These stories illustrate that while life is full of impossibilities, with God, divine possibilities emerge. We are reminded that impossibilities can be intimidating and expose our lack of control, leading to insecurity. However, these moments are opportunities to witness God's power and faithfulness. [14:55]
Lamentations 3:22-23 (ESV): "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."
Reflection: Reflect on a time when you witnessed God's faithfulness in your life. How can this memory encourage you to trust Him with your current challenges?
Quotes
Mary hears all of these promises from God, but right there in verse 34, she says these words, how can this be since I am a virgin? She asks this question, how? What are the details? How can what the plan of God and the purpose of God and the promise of God be true in my life if I don't have the details about how this is going to happen? [00:04:43] (26 seconds)
I love God. He doesn't make fun of us because we sometimes struggle in our faith, but he gives us evidence. He gives us testimonies all around us so that we can see that God keeps his promises. Sometimes God moves in circumstances. Somebody's life around you, not just for them, but so that you can see evidence of what God is able to do. [00:07:01] (29 seconds)
Life is full of impossibilities. That Mary's not the first to ever face impossibilities, but life can be full of impossibilities. Matter of fact, some of us in this room are facing our own impossibilities. The financial debt that we have continues to grow and the bills keep mounting up. Impossibilities. The job search from interview to interview, from company to company, and it feels like an impossibility. [00:09:04] (30 seconds)
What happens when you can't fix it? What happens when you can't call somebody? What happens when the doctors, what happens when the relationship, what happens when the financial situation, what happens when you can't fix it, can't control it, and it exposes us, and impossibilities can be intimidating. [00:11:46] (21 seconds)
But when you put God into the equation, it changes. It changes the whole situation. Yeah, you're right. You can't face the grief by yourself. Yeah, you're right. The financial challenge is too great for you. Yeah, you're right. You'll never be able to make it by yourself. But with God, there are divine possibilities. [00:14:56] (28 seconds)
When we read this verse, Luke 1 37, it echoes from the Old Testament several verses. The first one is Genesis chapter 18 and verse 14. This verse in Luke 1 37 is a reflection of prior things God has said. Look at this in Genesis 18 and 14. Let me give you the context. Abraham and Sarah had been promised a child but now they're in, Abraham is 100 and she is 90. [00:15:51] (31 seconds)
Possibilities are fueled by our faith. You've got to understand and remind yourself that the message of Christmas if God can send his son through 42 generations, through a virgin birth and birth his son that will one day die on the cross, if God can do that, then surely there ought to be hope for whatever situation that you are facing in life, and you've got to hold on to your faith. [00:18:07] (31 seconds)
You serve a God that knows what you're going through, knows how you're feeling, knows what you've faced, knows what you've been through, and He may not be able to fix what you've been in your past, but He can fix your future. Oh, yes, He can. Oh, I know He can. I know I'm looking at men and women of God. [00:20:00] (23 seconds)
The message of Christmas is that our hope is not in a job or a government or who sits on the presidency because we know they come and go. Our hope is in a God that's never ran a campaign, that's never had a campaign ad. Our hope is in a God that's God all by himself. [00:22:53] (23 seconds)
But because he's sovereign, you can trust that whatever God is leading us through or walking us through, that he's able to be trustworthy and that we can trust him for what he's doing in all of our lives. That even when stuff doesn't make sense to us, even when our hearts are broken by sometimes the challenges that we face, I need you to know he's still the God of possibilities. [00:25:03] (28 seconds)
I don't know what God's going to do I don't know how he's going to do it I don't know if he's even going to do it But here's what I do know Possibilities With God all things Are possible You put your faith in God And you leave the results To God You say God I'm going to trust you I'm going to believe you I'm going to put it in your hands And God whether you do it or not That's up to you But I believe possibilities are present With you [00:32:17] (34 seconds)
