Embracing Healing and Community Through Christ
Summary
In the midst of recent turmoil and loss, we gather today to reflect on the power of community and the unwavering presence of Jesus in our lives. This past week has been a testament to the strength and resilience of our church family, as we came together to support one another through one of the most challenging times in recent memory. Many of us have faced significant losses, yet we have also witnessed the sufficiency of Jesus, who has been our constant companion and source of strength. As we move forward, our focus is on providing tangible help to those in need, whether through volunteering, donating supplies, or contributing to our disaster relief fund. Our mission is to be the hands and feet of Jesus, extending love and support to our neighbors in the upstate and beyond.
Today, we delve into John 5, where Jesus encounters a man who has been disabled for 38 years. This story is a powerful reminder of Jesus' ability to heal not only our physical ailments but also our spiritual brokenness. The man at the pool of Bethesda represents all of us who are confined to our own "mats," whether they be physical, emotional, or spiritual burdens. Jesus' invitation to the man, "Do you want to get well?" is an invitation extended to each of us. It challenges us to confront our fears and embrace the transformative power of Jesus' healing.
The miracle of healing is not just about physical restoration; it is about a holistic transformation that encompasses body, mind, and spirit. Jesus' healing of the man is a testament to His divine power and authority, which transcends the limitations of human understanding. It is a call to faith, urging us to trust in Jesus' ability to change our reality and bring about true healing in our lives.
As we reflect on this story, we are reminded that Jesus is not only a teacher but a healer who desires to restore us to wholeness. We are invited to bring our burdens to Him, trusting in His power to heal and transform. Let us open our hearts to His invitation, stepping out in faith to receive the healing and renewal that only He can provide.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (ESV): "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!"
Reflection: Who in your community needs your support today, and how can you practically offer them help and encouragement?
Day 2: Embracing the Invitation to Healing
Jesus' question, "Do you want to get well?" is a profound invitation to embrace change and healing. It challenges individuals to confront their fears and step into a new reality, trusting in His transformative power. This question is not just about physical healing but also about addressing emotional and spiritual burdens. By accepting this invitation, one opens themselves to the possibility of a renewed life, free from the constraints of past struggles. Quotes
1) "You know a church family is a community that comes around you when you need it most and the investment of time that people put into this community just paid off big time as we just took care of one another as we like cared for one another and in one of the hardest seasons of life in the upstate and I just want to say thank you and so today I just want to give you guys a huge thank you thank you for being the hands and feet of Jesus and I know that a lot of us have like suffered a lot of loss we've lost power we've lost possessions some of us have lost people people we love are no longer here and in the middle of all this we've also found that Jesus has been enough and he's been so for us over and over again I heard stories of people saying man it could have been so much worse and Jesus was there for them and he was there with me in the middle of it so what we're trying to do right now is we're trying to say how can we help how can we provide ways for our church to help people and so if you need help today if you're in a spot where you're like man I just really need help we want to help you we're going to help you get that tree out of your yard" [37:24] (66 seconds)
2) "Jesus meets a man whose life is confined to a mat he's a man who was looking for healing he was lame he could not walk and Jesus changes his life forever now you the story takes place here in Jerusalem Jesus had gone north that's what we saw him doing last because his ministry was getting so popular that he was starting to get the attention of the Pharisees and he was not ready for the cross yet so he goes back to Galilee and now there's a time jump where Jesus comes back to Jerusalem and he goes to this place called Bethesda it was a pool looked probably a lot like this back in Jesus' day it was a beautiful pool with a colonnade and all around it were people who were waiting for the water to begin to move because they believed that the water when it moved was kind of magical and you could get into it if the first person that got in to that water was healed and so there are many people who are sick and needed healing waiting for the water to move and then after that it was kind of like a race to see who could get in the water first and today" [47:11] (77 seconds)
3) "you know sometimes we think following Jesus is just like super simple and will never be criticized for it and will never find opposition but if you start really preaching the scriptures there are going to be people who are going to say you're not doing it right and I don't like it like think about it right you would have done it tomorrow and you find them actually starting to align themselves against them not simply because of the healing but because of what Jesus says next look with me in verse 17 it says Jesus responded to them my father is still working and I am working also and this is why the Jews began trying all the more to kill him not only was he breaking the but he was even calling God his own father making himself equal to God y'all Jesus was killed not because he was scary to Rome as a revolutionary Jesus was killed not because he was a good teacher or good person and just misunderstood Jesus was killed because he said that he and God were the same and here you find the Jewish leadership conspiring to kill Jesus because Jesus says I can break the Sabbath because I invented it and" [01:04:16] (96 seconds)
4) "and so as I've been thinking about this passage of scripture I've been asking myself the question what does it look like for us to respond to this story about a man being healed and I think it's this you know a lot of us very comfortable with Jesus teaching but we often deny something that Jesus does all the time which is that he heals people that he's a healer he heals people's stories he heals people's past he heals people's bodies and he has the ability to do and when he does he rolls back the curse of sin on people's lives and I think there's a lot of us who feel really broken today we feel like our bodies are broken and we feel like our story is broken we feel like our situation is broken and we need a healer we need a God who can actually change our reality and you find in the New Testament Jesus offering this to people and you find the disciples doing the same you find James in James chapter 5 verse 14 saying is anyone among you should call for the elders of the church and pray for him and the prayer of faith will save the sick person and the Lord will raise him up and if he's committed sins he'll be forgiven there's something powerful when you ask Jesus to help you because he's healer and" [01:08:23] (108 seconds)
