Today’s focus was on the incredible gift of God’s grace and the freedom it brings to our lives. We began by celebrating how God is at work among us, sharing stories of answered prayers and reminders that God meets us in both the ordinary and the extraordinary. We recognized that while encouragement from others is valuable, our deepest comfort and assurance come from a living relationship with Christ and the truth of His Word.
To help us grasp the heart of the gospel, we used a vivid illustration: trying to touch the ceiling as a requirement for heaven. No matter how hard we try, we fall short—just as we fall short of God’s perfect standard. But Jesus, fully God and fully man, accomplished what we never could. When we cling to Him, His accomplishment becomes ours. This is the essence of grace: it’s not about our striving, but about what Christ has already done.
We explored the difference between “do” and “done.” Every religion except Christianity is based on human achievement—what we must do to earn God’s favor. Christianity alone is based on divine accomplishment—what Christ has already done for us. Grace is the gift that enables us to believe, to have faith, and to live in freedom. It’s not a license to do whatever we want, but the power and desire to do what God wants.
We also confronted the subtle dangers of self-righteousness. Whether we compare ourselves to others to feel superior or inferior, we’re missing the point. Our value is not in our performance, appearance, or achievements, but in what Christ paid for us—His own life. We are new creations, ambassadors for Christ, called to live for an audience of One. The world’s validation is fleeting and unreliable; only God’s validation matters.
Finally, we saw that living by grace means walking in peace and mercy, not striving for approval or fearing God’s rejection. God’s love is perfect and unchanging. Our calling is to ask, “What do you want me to do now, God?” and to trust Him to empower us. Grace is not just for salvation, but for every moment of every day, until we see Him face to face.
Key Takeaways
- 1. Grace is God’s gift that enables us to believe and live in freedom, not by our own efforts but by Christ’s finished work. This grace gives us the faith to trust God’s promises and the freedom to follow Him, even when the world’s way seems easier or more appealing. We must never take this gift for granted, nor assume anyone can believe without God’s intervention. [47:02]
- 2. The difference between “do” and “done” is the difference between religion and relationship. Every other system is about what we must do to earn acceptance; Christianity is about what Christ has already done. Our salvation and standing with God are secure because of His accomplishment, not our performance. [49:26]
- 3. Self-righteousness is any attempt to find value or acceptance in ourselves—whether by comparing ourselves to others or by our own achievements. True righteousness comes only from Christ, who paid the highest price for us. Our worth is fixed and unchanging because it is anchored in His sacrifice, not in our fluctuating circumstances or abilities. [65:20]
- 4. Living by grace means we are new creations and ambassadors for Christ. Our lives are not about exercising our rights or seeking validation from the world, but about representing Jesus in every situation. When we walk by this rule, we experience peace and mercy, and we become conduits of God’s grace to others. [97:29]
- 5. God’s love for us is perfect and unchanging; there is nothing we can do to make Him love us more or less. When we truly grasp this, we are freed from “flyswatter theology”—the fear that God is waiting to punish us for every mistake. Instead, we live in the security of His grace, asking daily, “What do you want me to do now, God?” and trusting Him to lead and empower us. [54:10]
