God has the power to transform our deepest sorrow and pain into joy and celebration, no matter how hopeless our situation may seem. Even when we find ourselves weighed down by grief, disappointment, or the burdens of life, God is able to bring about a complete turnaround—a 180-degree change that leads us from mourning to dancing. Just as David experienced restoration after exile and isolation, we too can trust that God is working behind the scenes to bring us out of our dark places and clothe us with gladness. When we recognize His hand at work, our hearts are moved to praise, knowing that He alone deserves the glory for every turnaround in our lives. [27:52]
Psalm 30:11-12 (KJV):
"Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness; To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever."
Reflection: Think of a time when God brought you out of a season of sorrow or heaviness. How can you express your gratitude to Him today in a tangible way?
Life is filled with moments when we reach a turning point—a decision or encounter that changes our direction and redefines our story. Throughout Scripture, individuals like Nicodemus, Abraham, Isaiah, Jonah, and the woman at the well all experienced pivotal moments that led them into deeper relationship with God and a new purpose. These turning points often require us to leave behind old patterns, beliefs, or circumstances and step into the unknown with faith. No matter how far we have gone down a difficult road, God invites us to make a change, to refuse to be defined by our past or our pain, and to trust Him for a new beginning. [30:40]
John 4:28-29, 39 (ESV):
"So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people, 'Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?' ... Many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony, 'He told me all that I ever did.'"
Reflection: Is there an area of your life where you sense God calling you to a turning point? What step of faith can you take today to move in a new direction?
God specializes in taking what was meant for harm and using it for our good and His glory. Even when we face situations that seem unfair, painful, or the result of our own mistakes, God is able to redeem and transform them into blessings. Like Joseph in Genesis, we can look back and see that what the enemy intended to destroy us, God used to elevate and strengthen us. Our faults and failures do not have the final word—God’s grace does. When we trust Him with our brokenness, He can turn our setbacks into setups for something greater. [41:29]
Genesis 50:20 (ESV):
"As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today."
Reflection: What is one difficult situation in your life that you can begin to see as an opportunity for God to bring about something good?
God desires and inhabits the praise of His people, and our worship should not be silent or reserved. Too often, we hold back our praise, waiting for someone else to lead or for our circumstances to improve. But true praise is a personal choice—a bold declaration of God’s goodness regardless of who is watching or what we are facing. Just as we are unashamed to show affection for those we love in public, we should be unashamed to express our gratitude and joy for what God has done. Our praise is a testimony to others and a reminder to ourselves that God is worthy of all honor and glory. [48:28]
Psalm 150:1-2 (ESV):
"Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness!"
Reflection: In what ways can you step out of your comfort zone and offer God bold, public praise this week?
Thankfulness is not just a response to what God has done, but a continual attitude rooted in who He is. David declared that he would give thanks to God forever, not just in moments of deliverance but in every season of life. Our gratitude should not be limited to times of blessing; even in trials, we can find reasons to say, “Thank you, Lord.” When we remember the ultimate turning point—Jesus’ resurrection from the grave—we are reminded that God’s goodness and faithfulness endure forever. No matter what we face, we can always have a “thank you” in our hearts and on our lips. [55:49]
1 Thessalonians 5:18 (ESV):
"Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."
Reflection: What is one thing you can thank God for today, even if your circumstances have not yet changed?
God’s goodness and mercy are beyond words, and when reflecting on all He has done, the only fitting response is praise. Even in seasons of deep sadness, heaviness, or mourning, God’s presence can break through and completely turn situations around. Like David in Psalm 30, who went from exile and despair to restoration and joy, there are moments in life when God brings a turning point—a 180-degree change that redefines our journey. These turning points are not just for biblical figures like Nicodemus, Abraham, Isaiah, Jonah, or the woman at the well; they are available to all who are willing to trust God and refuse to be defined by their circumstances.
When God begins to turn things around, it’s important not to wait until the process is complete before offering praise. Praise in the midst of the turnaround is an act of faith, acknowledging that God is already at work. David’s testimony is that God can take our faults and failures and use them for our favor. The world may leave us in our brokenness, but God calls us to rise, dust ourselves off, and return to the purpose He has for us. Mourning and wailing are not just about the loss of loved ones; they can be the result of life’s many challenges. Yet, God is able to transform our sorrow into dancing and clothe us with gladness.
Praise is not meant to be silent or passive. Just as we are quick to show affection and pride in our earthly relationships, we should be bold in expressing our gratitude and love for God. God desires and inhabits the praises of His people, and it is a shame to receive His mercy and remain silent. Our praise should not be reserved for moments of need or crisis; it should be a continual offering, regardless of our circumstances. Like a party that no one wants to leave, our praise should be prolonged, lasting as long as we have breath. Even Jesus’ journey to the cross was marked by a turning point—what seemed like defeat was transformed into victory on resurrection morning. No matter where we are in our journey—approaching, in the midst of, or coming out of a turning point—we can always find a reason to say, “Thank you, Lord.” Gratitude is not just for what God does, but for who He is.
Psalm 30:11-12 (ESV) — > You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
> you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness,
> that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent.
> O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!
Can I tell you, there are times when we have experienced a turning point in our lives. A turning point is when you've gone down the road so far and you decided to make a change in your journey. Many of us have found ourselves at the turning point in our lives. You made the decision, I'm not going to be defined no longer by my current situation. You say, Lord, I'm not going to lay in my depressed state any longer. I'm not going to continue down the road that is not pleasing in your sight. I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready for a change in my situation. [00:29:31]
Can I tell you, when you realize God had turned it around, there ought to be some praise in your spirit. Can I tell you, don't wait for God to turn it all the way around before you start to praise him. I dare you to praise God just while he's starting to turn that situation around and watch how your praise can get you to where God wants for you to be. [00:33:18]
We come in broken. We come in shattered. We come in with different aspects of life. But when we get into the worship experience, and we begin to lift God up. We know that God can handle our situation. [00:34:21]
David said, I know I did something wrong. But God, I'm thankful. Because in verse 5, he said, weeping may endure for the night. But joy comes in the morning. And then he concludes this psalm commemorating his deliverance and vowing eternal praise. So David is telling us today, he said, I don't care what you're going through. God has the power to turn your situation around. [00:34:43]
First thing that I see here is that God can turn bad into good. And can I tell you, many times we think that when bad things happen, that there is no other place for the people of God to go. But what I realize is God can take some bad stuff and turn it into your favor. Let me lay it out like this. Maybe it's a catch on. God can take your fault and turn it into your favor. [00:35:27]
God is talking to somebody in here on this morning. He said, you're not living in the purpose that I have, purpose in your life. You're being defined by what happened to you. You're being defined by what's going on in your life. You're being defined by what somebody did to you. God is saying, get up. Dust yourself off. And go back to where God would have for you to be. [00:37:09]
Can I tell you, I don't care what has happened unto me I want to come in and always have a smile on my face cause can I tell you whatever has happened to me it happened to me and I know that God is able to turn my situation around see what happens is when you come in throwing the pity part then you're saying that God is not able and the text says without faith it's impossible to please God and so if I know God has turned it around for me before then surely if I find myself in another wailing and mourning situation I know he can do it again. [00:38:30]
David gives us an indicator that God gets the credit for changing our mourning and wailing into something that's exciting and full of purpose in verse 5 if I said of this chapter David gives us comfort in knowing that you may be crying for a little while the turning point comes somewhere before the dawn because he said joy comes in the morning David said I went to sleep weeping but I woke up dancing I went to sleep in pity but I woke up having a party. [00:40:21]
It amazes me how we can come in and know that God has already worked it out before but we come in here downtrodden and we come in here with so much stuff on our minds that it hinders our praise but can I tell you God is saying if you know who I am if you have a true relationship with me if you truly know that I am that I if you believe I can raise Jesus on this Sunday morning then sure God can handle your situation. [00:42:17]
Can I tell you, he woke you up this morning. He started you in your right mind. He gave you activities of your limbs. You want to sit there and act and look like God ain't never done nothing for you. can i tell you god desires and inhabits the praise of his people he said church is not meant to be silent because he said when i was making my way to the cross and i was making my way to jerusalem he said i told him that even if you don't praise the rocks will cry out and god said church ain't meant to be silent because he said there should be a group of people who can identify and acknowledge that there has been some grace and some mercy that's been dispensed of most his believers and if you know that god has done something for you somebody in this place should lose their mind. [00:48:37]
It would be a shameful crime if after receiving god's mercy that we should forget to give him our praise too many of us get excited about other things that can't do us no good somebody gonna be jumping up for the cowboys tonight but the cowboys ain't wake you up somebody was shouting be shouting for the spurs and the mountains but the fact is that they can't do anything for you and so if i can get excited about external things in my life then surely i can get a little excited about the lord. [00:51:06]
You better be careful when you only praise god when things are bad and when you need him the most if the only time you praise god is when you need god to show up then in order for him for him to get you to praise him he's gonna throw some situations in your life in order for you to need god and to praise god. So I've learned that I've got to praise God even in the sunshine. I've got to praise God even when it seems like all hell is falling at my feet. It doesn't matter what state I am in. I've got to be like Paul and be content in where I am and give God my praise. [00:51:58]
God said, somebody in here, you've been standing on the wall too long. You've been sitting in the pew too long. God said he wants to change your pity into the praise. And the fact is, what I've learned from them parties is that if you want to get on the dance floor, it's a personal choice. You don't have to stay on the wall. You can just get up and make your way to the dance floor. [00:52:46]
And God is saying if you've got enough boldness to dance by yourself in the club, then surely you've got enough boldness to praise by yourself in the sanctuary. The problem is you're waiting on your neighbor to praise, but your neighbor ain't do it for you. Your neighbor can't get you to heaven. Your neighbor can't do anything. But if you know that God has been good. [00:53:39]
But the fact is that they did not want to leave. Lord, my God, I will give thanks unto thee forever. Some of us, we don't finish out and we leave the forever off. But David says, as long as I have breath in my body, I have to give. Thank you. thanks unto God cause I can't thank God enough. [00:55:19]
David says, as long as I have breath in my body, I have to give. Thank you. thanks unto God cause I can't thank God enough David said Lord you got me started you get the credit for where I am he said you turned it around for me so now Lord I'm going to praise you and give you thanks forever and ever can I tell you too many times we want to give thanks to God only after he has done something in our lives but can I tell you the God that I serve he deserves my praise no matter what situation I'm in. [00:55:42]
Can I tell you thank you is for who God is and not just for what he does if you're just thanking him for what he does then in your mind you may come up with a reason that he doesn't deserve your thanksgiving you may have you may have But if you thank God for who he is, you can thank God no matter where you are. [00:59:00]
I don't know about you, but God has shown me that I can testify that can't nobody do me like Jesus. Can't nobody do me like the Lord. Is there anybody in the room right now you can testify? I never would can testify? I was sinking deep in know. you don't know you God has, God has, God has been good to me. [01:00:09]
I've had some good days. And I've had some hills to climb. I've had some weary days. And I've had some sleepless nights. But when I, when I look around. And I think things over. All of my good days outweigh my bad days. I, I won't complain. [01:04:42]
