Every moment of our lives is not random, but divinely appointed by God, who orchestrates both the beginnings and endings for His purposes. Just as Elijah’s final day was known and sensed by those walking closely with God, so too are the moments of our lives set by the Lord, calling us to recognize His hand in our daily journey. When we become aware that God is present in every moment, even the ordinary becomes sacred, and we are invited to live with a sense of holy expectation, making the most of every opportunity He gives us. [08:24]
Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 (ESV)
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die.
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you need to trust that God has appointed the timing, even if you don’t understand it yet? How can you surrender that area to Him today?
There are places in our lives that become sacred not because of their physical features, but because God has met us there in a powerful way. The Jordan River was such a place for Elijah, for Joshua, for John the Baptist, and for Jesus—a place of crossing, transformation, and divine encounter. God desires to meet us in the ordinary places of our lives, turning them into holy ground as we open our hearts to Him, whether it’s a church pew, a living room, or even a hospital room. [21:33]
Joshua 3:14-17 (ESV)
So when the people set out from their tents to pass over the Jordan with the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people, and as soon as those bearing the ark had come as far as the Jordan, and the feet of the priests bearing the ark were dipped in the brink of the water (now the Jordan overflows all its banks throughout the time of harvest), the waters coming down from above stood and rose up in a heap very far away, at Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan, and those flowing down toward the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, were completely cut off. And the people passed over opposite Jericho. Now the priests bearing the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firmly on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan, and all Israel was passing over on dry ground until all the nation finished passing over the Jordan.
Reflection: Where is a place in your life that has become sacred because you encountered God there? How can you intentionally seek God’s presence in the places you find yourself today?
Just as Elijah was taken up in a whirlwind and Jesus ascended into heaven, Scripture promises that Jesus will return, and we are called to live in readiness for that day. The timing is unknown to all but the Father, so our focus must be on being right with God, living in repentance, and actively serving His kingdom. The call is not to speculate about the timing, but to be awake, alert, and faithful, so that whenever He comes, He finds us prepared and walking in His ways. [26:41]
Matthew 24:42-44 (ESV)
Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
Reflection: If Jesus were to return today, what would He find you doing? What is one step you can take right now to live with greater readiness and purpose?
The same Spirit that rested on Elijah and Elisha, the same Spirit that filled the early church at Pentecost, is available to every believer who asks. God’s power and presence are not reserved for a select few, but are poured out on all who desire to be filled, equipping us for His work and transforming us from the inside out. The invitation is to move beyond mere religion or routine and to seek a fresh filling of the Holy Spirit, so that our lives bear witness to God’s reality and power in the world today. [36:02]
Acts 2:17-18, 21 (ESV)
“‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; even on my male servants and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy… And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’”
Reflection: Have you ever truly asked God to fill you with His Spirit? What would it look like for you to open your heart and hands to receive a fresh anointing from Him today?
When Elijah was taken up, Elisha picked up his mantle and stepped into the calling and anointing God had for him, demonstrating that God’s work continues through those willing to receive and walk in His Spirit. The legacy of faith is not about personalities or past generations, but about each of us choosing to pick up the mantle, to say yes to God’s purpose, and to let His power flow through us for the sake of others. The question is not whether God’s Spirit is available, but whether we are willing to step forward, be filled, and be used for His kingdom in our generation. [32:09]
2 Kings 2:13-15 (ESV)
And he took up the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. Then he took the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and struck the water, saying, “Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” And when he had struck the water, the water was parted to the one side and to the other, and Elisha went over. Now when the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho saw him opposite them, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” And they came to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.
Reflection: What “mantle” or calling has God placed before you in this season? What is one bold step you can take this week to walk in the power and purpose He has for you?
Elijah’s final moments on earth are a powerful reminder that God appoints both the times and places of our lives for His purposes. The story begins with Elijah and Elisha journeying together, as Elisha refuses to leave his mentor’s side, sensing the significance of the day. Throughout their journey, the sons of the prophets repeatedly confirm that Elijah’s departure is imminent, highlighting the spiritual sensitivity that comes from walking closely with God. This awareness is not reserved for prophets alone; Scripture teaches that God ordains moments in each of our lives, calling us to recognize and respond to His timing.
The Jordan River, where Elijah’s last miracle occurs, is more than a geographical location—it is a sacred place, rich with spiritual history. It was at the Jordan that Israel crossed into the Promised Land, and centuries later, where John the Baptist would prepare the way for Jesus. The river represents a threshold, a place of transition and new beginnings. Just as Elijah’s ministry culminates at the Jordan, so too does Jesus’ public ministry begin there, as the heavens open and the Spirit descends upon Him. These sacred places in our own lives—whether a church, a childhood home, or even a hospital room—become holy ground when God meets us there.
Elijah’s ascension in a whirlwind, accompanied by chariots of fire, is a supernatural event that foreshadows Christ’s own ascension. Both point forward to the promise that Jesus will return, and that those who belong to Him will be caught up to meet Him. The call is clear: be ready. Readiness is not about predicting dates or deciphering signs, but about living in a state of repentance, faith, and expectation, so that whenever Christ returns, we are found faithful.
Perhaps the most profound aspect of Elijah’s departure is the transfer of his mantle and spirit to Elisha. Elisha’s request for a double portion is not for material wealth or personal glory, but for the Spirit that empowered Elijah’s ministry. This same Spirit is available to all who ask, not limited to a select few. The power and presence of God are not bound to personalities or past generations; the mantle is available for those willing to pick it up and walk in the Spirit’s fullness today.
The invitation is open: to be filled afresh with the Holy Spirit, to experience freedom, healing, and purpose, and to become a people marked by God’s presence. Every moment, every place, can become sacred when surrendered to Him.
2 Kings 2:1-15 (ESV) —
> 1 Now when the LORD was about to take Elijah up to heaven by a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal.
> 2 And Elijah said to Elisha, “Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me as far as Bethel.” But Elisha said, “As the LORD lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel.
> 3 And the sons of the prophets who were in Bethel came out to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that today the LORD will take away your master from over you?” And he said, “Yes, I know it; keep quiet.”
> 4 Elijah said to him, “Elisha, please stay here, for the LORD has sent me to Jericho.” But he said, “As the LORD lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they came to Jericho.
> 5 The sons of the prophets who were at Jericho drew near to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that today the LORD will take away your master from over you?” And he answered, “Yes, I know it; keep quiet.”
> 6 Then Elijah said to him, “Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me to the Jordan.” But he said, “As the LORD lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So the two of them went on.
> 7 Fifty men of the sons of the prophets also went and stood at some distance from them, as they both were standing by the Jordan.
> 8 Then Elijah took his cloak and rolled it up and struck the water, and the water was parted to the one side and to the other, till the two of them could go over on dry ground.
> 9 When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.” And Elisha said, “Please let there be a double portion of your spirit on me.”
> 10 And he said, “You have asked a hard thing; yet, if you see me as I am being taken from you, it shall be so for you, but if you do not see me, it shall not be so.”
> 11 And as they still went on and talked, behold, chariots of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
> 12 And Elisha saw it and he cried, “My father, my father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” And he saw him no more. Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them in two pieces.
> 13 And he took up the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan.
> 14 Then he took the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and struck the water, saying, “Where is the LORD, the God of Elijah?” And when he had struck the water, the water was parted to the one side and to the other, and Elisha went over.
> 15 Now when the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho saw him opposite them, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” And they came to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.
Every moment becomes a God moment when you realize that God's in every moment. And he is here right now. It's the time. It's an appointed time. It's the final day of Elijah's life. [00:13:42] (19 seconds) #SacredPlacesOfEncounter
Look at me. If Jesus had come this week, if Jesus came today, if Jesus came tomorrow, would you be ready? Would you be ready? Are you right with God? Have you believed in Him as your Savior? Do you have freedom from sin? I want Him to come and find me right with Him. I want Him to come and find me working for the kingdom of God. I want Him to come and find me bringing people to Him. His ministry on earth has come to its conclusion. And now he's left, but he's not left with nothing. He has two things. He has the mantle that's fallen off of him, the same mantle that was used to call him to this great work. And he receives the Spirit that rests on Elijah. The Spirit of God is not bound by personality or by people. In every generation, throughout time, the patriarchs, the prophets, the disciples, and now the church. In every generation, the power and presence of God has rested on his people. And the power and presence of God can rest upon you. [00:31:04] (57 seconds)
``The mantle of their ministry, the anointing of what they walked in is still here because the power and presence of God is not about people and personalities. It's about the Spirit of God within them. And the question now is who will pick up the baton? Who will pick up the mantle and walk in the power and the presence of God for his work today? His Spirit wants to fill you. [00:32:26] (30 seconds)
There are a lot of people who have church. There are a lot of people who have religion. There are a lot of people who have gifting. But there are very few people who are truly filled with the power and the presence of God. But he is not partial. Anyone who wants to be filled with a Spirit can be filled by him. Anyone who wants to be filled with a Spirit can be filled by him. [00:34:19] (28 seconds)
Is this true in our church? There are some people this hour who need to receive the visions and dreams that God has for you. There are some sons and daughters that need to be filled so that they prophesy. The power and presence of God is here in the Holy Spirit. The third person of the Trinity. The same Spirit that anointed Jesus is still here today. And for anyone who wants and anyone who asks, He will fill you with His Spirit. [00:36:23] (33 seconds)
There is a gap that I see between the pages of Scripture and the reality of what most of our church members walk in every day of their life. And I'm telling you that gap is the Holy Spirit anointing and filling our lives. I wonder who's ready to be filled with this Spirit. [00:39:29] (28 seconds)
The reality is you can have all of God but Him not have all of you. The way that we live the patterns of our life can grieve or quench the Spirit of God. Now I'm telling you that we need to be filled. We need to be anointed. We need to be touched fresh and anew with the power of the Holy Spirit of God. [00:39:57] (24 seconds)
