Day 1: Begin with God—The Foundation of Every Goal
Before you set out to achieve anything, it is vital to ensure that God is at the center of your plans. Many people set goals based on money, status, or the expectations of others, but true success comes when God is the source and foundation of your ambitions. When you seek God first and make Him your priority, He promises to be with you, guide you, and reward your efforts. Let your goals be shaped by His will, and you will find purpose, direction, and fulfillment beyond what you could imagine. [20:21]
2 Chronicles 15:1-5 (ESV) The Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded, and he went out to meet Asa and said to him, “Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin: The Lord is with you while you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you. For a long time Israel was without the true God, and without a teaching priest and without law, but when in their distress they turned to the Lord, the God of Israel, and sought him, he was found by them. In those times there was no peace to him who went out or to him who came in, for great disturbances afflicted all the inhabitants of the lands."
Reflection: What is one goal you are currently pursuing where you need to intentionally invite God to be the foundation and guide, rather than relying on your own plans or desires?
Day 2: God is the God of the Reset
No matter how you started or what mistakes you’ve made, God specializes in giving you a fresh start. Even if you feel you’ve missed your mark, started in the wrong direction, or pursued goals that weren’t meant for you, God’s mercy and grace allow you to reset and begin again. He restores, renews, and refreshes, offering you another chance to pursue the right goals with Him at the center. Don’t let regret or past failures hold you back—embrace the reset God offers and move forward in faith. [08:53]
Isaiah 40:30-31 (ESV) Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Reflection: Where in your life do you need to ask God for a reset, letting go of past regrets and trusting Him for a new beginning?
Day 3: Remember God’s Faithfulness—Preparation for Future Victory
Before you set new goals, take time to remember how God has already brought you through past challenges and victories. Reflecting on God’s faithfulness in previous seasons prepares your heart and mind for what lies ahead. Just as Asa’s past victories set the stage for future success, your own journey is built on the foundation of God’s ongoing work in your life. Let gratitude for what God has done fuel your confidence as you pursue new goals, knowing you are standing on the shoulders of His faithfulness. [16:28]
Psalm 77:11-12 (ESV) I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds.
Reflection: Take a moment to write down two or three ways God has been faithful to you in the past—how can these memories encourage you as you set new goals?
Day 4: God’s Method Brings Success
When you make God your priority, He provides you with an exact method for success that surpasses human wisdom or tradition. Asa and the people of Judah learned that following God’s instructions, even when they seemed unconventional, led to victory. God’s ways may not always align with worldly strategies, but His guidance is precise and trustworthy. Trusting in God’s direction, rather than your own understanding, ensures that your steps are ordered and your efforts are fruitful. [33:37]
Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV) Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Reflection: What is one area where you need to stop relying on your own understanding and instead seek God’s specific guidance for your next step?
Day 5: Expect God to Expand and Reward You
When you reset with God at the center, don’t limit your expectations—God desires to expand your influence, impact, and reward beyond what you can imagine. Asa’s story shows that God not only restores but also enlarges your territory and brings celebration at the finish line. Expect God to do great things as you pursue your goals with Him, and look for ways He will get the glory in your victories. Anticipate that your work, when done for God, will be rewarded, and let hope and faith rise as you move forward. [39:24]
Ephesians 3:20-21 (ESV) Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
Reflection: As you look at your goals, how can you raise your expectations and trust God to do more than you could ask or imagine, giving Him the glory in the process?
Sermon Summary
In this season of change and uncertainty, God is inviting us to embrace a new way of living—one that is rooted in His presence and purpose. As we gather, whether in person or through screens, the Spirit of God is still moving, calling us to become “goal-getters” who pursue not just any goals, but the right ones—goals that are aligned with God’s will and bring Him glory. The journey of faith is not just about how we finish, but also about how we begin. Our starting point matters, and sometimes, we need to pause, reflect, and allow God to reset our direction so we can pursue the goals He has set before us.
Looking at the story of Asa in 2 Chronicles 15, we see that even after victory, it’s possible to lose focus, become discouraged, or drift from God’s purpose. Yet, God is always ready to give us a fresh start. He sends encouragement, wisdom, and the opportunity to reset. Our past victories are not just memories; they are reminders of God’s faithfulness and preparation for what’s next. Before setting new goals, it’s important to remember what God has already done, to stand on the shoulders of those who came before us, and to recognize that our journey is part of a larger story.
True goal-setting begins with making God the foundation. Too often, we set goals based on external measures—money, recognition, or the expectations of others—without seeking God’s direction. But when God is at the center, He provides not only the vision but also the exact method for success. He expands our reach beyond what we could imagine, taking our small dreams and multiplying them for greater impact. God’s way is not always conventional, but it is always purposeful.
As we move forward, we are called to expect victory—not because of our own strength, but because God is faithful to reward those who diligently seek Him. The cross itself is the ultimate reset, showing us that even when things seem lost, God can bring resurrection and new beginnings. No matter where you are or what you’ve faced, God invites you to get on your mark, reset, and go after the goals He has for you, knowing that your work in Him will be rewarded.
Key Takeaways
1. The Importance of a God-Ordained Start: How we begin matters as much as how we finish. Before pursuing new goals, it’s essential to pause and ensure we are starting from the place God has prepared for us, not simply following the momentum of our past or the expectations of others. God specializes in giving us a fresh start, no matter how we began. [06:36]
2. Remembering Past Victories Fuels Future Faith: Reflecting on what God has already done in our lives builds confidence for the journey ahead. Our previous wins, even if imperfect, are evidence of God’s preparation and faithfulness, reminding us that we are equipped for what’s next. This backward glance is not nostalgia, but a foundation for forward movement. [16:28]
3. God Must Be the Foundation of Our Goals: Setting goals apart from God leads to frustration and emptiness. When God is the source and center of our ambitions, He provides clarity, direction, and the exact method for success. Our goals should be shaped by His priorities, not just our desires or cultural pressures. [20:35]
4. God Expands What We Entrust to Him: Our vision is often limited by our own experiences and resources, but God sees beyond our boundaries. When we reset and align our goals with His will, He multiplies our impact, opening doors and creating opportunities we never imagined possible. God’s expansion is not just for us, but for the blessing of others. [35:15]
5. Expect God’s Reward and Celebrate His Glory: Pursuing God-given goals means living with the expectation of victory, not settling for mediocrity or mere survival. God promises to reward our faithfulness, and every achievement becomes an opportunity to give Him glory. The ultimate reset is found in Christ, whose resurrection assures us that new beginnings are always possible. [39:24] ** [39:24]
2 Chronicles 15:1-7 (NIV) — The Spirit of God came on Azariah son of Oded. He went out to meet Asa and said to him, “Listen to me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you. For a long time Israel was without the true God, without a priest to teach and without the law. But in their distress they turned to the Lord, the God of Israel, and sought him, and he was found by them. In those days it was not safe to travel about, for all the inhabitants of the lands were in great turmoil. One nation was being crushed by another and one city by another, because God was troubling them with every kind of distress. But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”

Sermon Clips
Many of us have just thrown away our past tossed away what was that will only focus on what will become but i'm here to tell you that all of us are to refocus on how we start, that what you do in the beginning matters and before we pursue goal getting i submit to you that we ought to at least rewind go back to where we started and make sure we had the right goal in mind but what i'm really saying is that some of us have simply missed the mark because we started off on the wrong foot we moved out of the blocks too slow we started in a direction that was never designed for us. [00:07:23]
We went after things that were for them and him and her but were never god's order of a success for you we did it because they said we were good at it because a parent thought that it was their dream that was now impressed upon you and if you ever found yourself in a place where you can just pause on the track of life and be honest and say you know what where i'm going how i'm getting there what i've done to get this far really have not been what god has designed i've come today to tell you you can get on your mark you can reset and you can go. [00:07:51]
What i'm really submitting is that it doesn't matter how you start it god is able to help reset you, we serve a god who majors in the reset and the renew and the refresh and he can give you another chance to start going after the gold the right way that's today's message that you can go after something but if you start off the wrong way then you miss your mark but the god we serve he is more than able to give you a brand new start. [00:08:25]
He restoreth my soul it is what psalms 51 tells us when god says david writes and says created me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me what he was trying to say is i can be honest and tell you that when i started this i thought i had it all together i thought i was moving the right way i thought i was doing the right thing but now that i've come this far i realized that i didn't start off the way i should have and god if you give me your mercy and grant me your grace i'll reset so that i can reach the goal. [00:09:30]
The reset allows us to pursue what god has for us without regretting what has already been oh and this morning i've come to tell someone that god wants to show you victory that god wants to give you a win god wants you to cross the finish line and he does it not based on the pain of your past but he does it based on the ability to reset and give you a reward. [00:10:23]
Before you can just start a matter of fact i don't want to complicate it but can i confirm for you that before you ever started god was working in the beginning uh i know that sound a little backwards so i'm gonna say it one more time i said before you got started god was working in the beginning it is a simple idea that before you can achieve any goal before you start pursuing what you're going after you have to first have a beginning of preparation that there's always proper preparation before you can produce god-sized results. [00:13:20]
Whenever you have poor preparation you will also have poor performance so before second chronicles chapter five god had already began working on the chapter five goal in chapter four because if you go back to chapter four you will discover that asa had just won a battle he had taken the children of judah and benjamin because he reigns now over the southern kingdom and they fought and won, they grabbed their spears and swords against the cushites and they won they stood strong in battle and they won and because they won in chapter four god is now bringing them to chapter five to say keep on winning. [00:14:18]
If you go back just one more chapter in your life you will be able to testify that your good days outnumber your bad days and if you look at them chronicle them like ezra does second chronicles chapter 5 you too will discover that you have won, you may not have won the way you thought but you came through you may not have gotten everything that you prayed for but you have more than what you deserve you may not know all of the people and have all of the love and get all of the hugs and the text messages that you desire but there's still somebody who cares about you reaches out to you and knows that you are important to them. [00:15:37]
Before you set the goal you want to prepare by remembering what you've already accomplished don't ever think about where you're going without also looking at where you came from that's what black history month is about it's not just about quoting some stacks and throwing out some facts or putting some pictures up on your facebook instagram or talking about it in clubhouse, black history month is designed to remind you that what you're going through you've been prepared for, you like asa are standing on the shoulders of your descendants you have the strength of maya you have the vocal talent and the ability of sicily you have what it takes to stand in the face of persecution you know why you can do it now it's because god already did it before. [00:16:24]
You gotta understand that where you are is not just the start this is god proven to you that he's resetting you for your future oh it's happening with asa and asa here now after he has won seems to be distracted and in distress a matter of fact he's walking around with his head down thinking that he cannot win so god sends him a word he sends him a prophet by the name of azariah and if i could quickly toss out this goal-setting tip because the bible says that the spirit of god came on azariah and he went to meet asap because one of the key attributes of god size goal setting is knowing that god can trust you with information. [00:17:23]
You want to be the type of man or woman of god where god can trust you with information, it's not today's message but you're asking how do i know he can trust me with information he knows you you know he can trust you with information when you are able to engage in collaboration god never tells you something that's only for you he will tell you something that is for us all and immediately when azariah gets the spirit of god on him and a word for him he goes and connects with asa oh god i'ma pause it just for a second and tell you that if god is really going to trust you with information he's got to trust you with collaboration. [00:18:14]
You cannot have god's size goal and determine that there are groups of people you're not going to work with because you don't like them you cannot have god's size goal and predetermine who you're going to partner with and not be open to the people that god is going to synergize you with you cannot have god's size go and decide you're only going to target one group of people one type of person one set because that's who you're liking that's where you're from you got to know that god loves all the little children he works across town and in your town uptown and downtown. [00:18:57]
He says listen if you seek him he will be found by you, he says if you forsake him he's going to forsake you but as long as you keep god first then your goals will be fine and that's that's really to be honest the meat of today's message for every gold getter out there that one of the things we must learn to do is make sure god is a part of our goal setting i probably could have just started there and just said that simple and plain but let me try that one more time, that if you're going to be a goal setter you've got to make sure that you make god the priority. [00:20:00]
Many of us know god serve god and worship god but when it came to being goal getters and goal setters we set our goals based on other parameters we set our goals based on the amount of money we were going to make we set our goals based on the degrees that others had that we too wanted to agree we set our goals based on how many likes we were going to get and how many hearts they were going to put on the post we set our goal based on what our father and our mother had and we just wanted to take our family to the next stage but we left god out of the equation. [00:20:44]
If we see first the kingdom of god and his righteousness then everything else will be added oh and i've come today to tell some brother some sister some child of god that the lord that we serve has set it up such that if you started out your goal with the wrong intention if you somehow were off track because you had a reason for your goal but god was not the foundation of your goal he told me to tell you you can get on your mark and reset and still reach your goal. [00:21:32]
If god is the source of your goal then god will provide then god will make a way then god will keep your enemies at bay then god will make sure the partnerships show up then god will make sure the grand money comes then god will make sure that the ppp covers you and them god will make sure that even the famine won't cause destruction of your business because god is able to take care of his own ah that's not for everybody but according to first john 5 that's for everybody who believes for every one of god's children you've got to know that god is chosen to make you great. [00:23:15]
For every one of god's daughters you've got to know that the goals god has for you is a destiny where you're wearing the diadem and you're in charge for every one of my brothers you gotta know that you have been built to already handle whatever comes your way for every son of god you gotta know that success is already written in the script for every one of my sisters you've got to know that god already sees you as enough you must realize that god sees you successful in your goal oh god my brothers and sisters that's really today's message because asa is in this place notice the text where he was going to give up but azariah shows up and says no don't do that because as long as you're with god god is with you. [00:23:56]
The problem asa had is the problem that we have, it wasn't that they didn't have any god to follow no no the text says the problem they have is they weren't connected to the true god of israel they had too many carbon copies they had too many replicas they had too much noise and too many conversations they had so much going on around them that they could not connect to the god who was the center of their joy oh and can i tell you that whenever you reset and make god the reason you're going after the goal it will give you an exact method for success. [00:29:16]
You must understand that our praising and worshiping god is not just about sanctuary music and dance no when we praise and worship him it keeps our mind on him and places in us a mind like him so it is when you make god your priority when god is your number one but then you'll get an exact method for success it's beyond the praise and the worship the praise and the worship provide for you a path and a way the praise and the worship provide for you process and wisdom the praise and the worship help set parameters and prove your worth. [00:29:56]
The longer you're connected to him the more like him you become the more you talk to him the more you start to sound like him the more time you spend with him in private the more you look like act like work like and find favor like him in public see the problem asa had is that he had too many other gods to entertain he was sipping on one god smoking with another god sexing with that god and as a result he was discombobulated about the direction he ought to go in but can i tell you if you ever decide to make god the reason you have your goals that god will take you through a path where your steps are already ordered. [00:31:08]
When you make god the goal he will make sure you walk exactly in the way that he has set for you and yes you may walk through the valley but you don't have to have any fear yes you may go through the water but you will not drown yes it might get hot but the fire's not gonna burn you yes you're gonna have enemies on every side but he'll turn him into your footstool you gotta understand that making god the priority in the goal will give you an exact method for your success oh god i wish i wish joshua would say he would tell you that following god will also help your walls fall down. [00:31:56]
When you are in god god has a way of expanding what you started that's why you ought to reset because god sees it bigger than you do you saw it just for your family and a few friends but god sees it global you saw it just working for your church but you didn't know you would be the step of the spear and help lead other churches you thought it was just going to be a few fellows but it's going to be more than what you could think or imagine you thought that you would just have a couple of episodes but god sees it as a series you thought you were just writing some chapters to finish one book but god already sees the next book publishing contract coming. [00:35:30]
God can expand your goal, oh we often start out based on what we think but we know what we have experienced but notice in the text their problem was that they were not even able to travel oh come on the text says it right there in those days it was not safe to travel because they were not connected to god they had not heard the word but when you reset what you will discover is that god will take you your dreams your aspirations further than you would have ever thought he'll take you beyond what you're used to, most of us right now are the biggest fish in aeropon but we're missing out on the opportunities that are ocean-sized. [00:36:16]
If you put him first and make him the foundation of your gold getting and your gold setting he's going to let you jump out of the pond get in the ocean and while you may not be the biggest fish in the ocean opportunities are going to be there doors are going to be open ways are going to be made money is going to show up buildings are going to open up doors for you people are going to call you to do more than what you thought and pay you greater than what you could ask for contracts are going to come your way businesses are going to be launched through you lives are going to be changed families are going to be altered communities are going to be transformed politics are going to be proper because you are going to get expanded. [00:36:56]
Don't ever set a goal and not expect to reach it oh no if you start off with god setting your goals you will expect to win oh and that's how i'm gonna sit down by telling you expect a victory uh you may hit some bumps along the way you may fall short you may run out of money you may create some enemies your friends may become your foes but you ought to expect to win uh you may find yourself hitting rock bottom before you rise back to the top but you ought to expect to live uh you may find yourself alone for a little while before god brings the multitude but if god is part of the goal getting and the gold setting you ought to expect. [00:39:46]
If you can figure out how god's getting the glory then you'll tell them that you can expect that you'll have victory that's what i love asa finds himself in a place where he receives the best from god because god allows him to reset uh and i've come to tell someone that as you start setting your goals you ought to go ahead and expect god to do great things you ought to go ahead and expect god to open up windows and pour out favor you ought to expect god to save your family because of how you're working towards what god has placed in your hands. [00:41:32]
