Embracing God's Providence: A Journey Through Esther

Summary

### Summary

Good morning, church. Today, we gathered to celebrate the Lord's goodness and to remind ourselves of His enduring love and faithfulness. We began by reflecting on Psalm 106, which calls us to give thanks to the Lord and to remember His mighty acts. We prayed for God's movement in our lives, asking Him to help us break free from mere traditions and rituals, and to truly experience His presence.

We also shared some exciting announcements, including a capital campaign for a new youth area, upcoming movie nights, and various events aimed at fostering community and spiritual growth. But the heart of today's message was centered on the theme of "Remembering the Lord," as we embark on a 10-week journey through the book of Esther.

I shared my personal testimony of how God delivered me from a life of chaos and sin, emphasizing the importance of continually remembering the Lord in every aspect of our lives. We explored the story of King Belshazzar from the book of Daniel, who arrogantly used sacred vessels for a pagan feast, only to be confronted by God's hand writing on the wall. This story set the stage for our study of Esther, where God's providence is evident even though His name is never mentioned.

In Esther, we see a hidden hand of God positioning His people for His purposes. The story begins with a lavish feast thrown by King Ahasuerus, which leads to Queen Vashti's removal and sets the stage for Esther's rise to queenship. This seemingly insignificant event was actually a divine setup for God's plan to save His people.

We are reminded that God remembers us and has brought us to this moment for a purpose. Just as Esther was positioned for "such a time as this," we too are placed in our current circumstances by God's providential hand. We are called to embrace this divine moment, not just for ourselves but for the greater good of those around us.

As we move forward, I am calling our church to a 10-week period of fasting and prayer every Tuesday. This will help us seek God's guidance and unite us in our mission. Whether it's fasting from food, social media, or other distractions, the goal is to turn our focus to God and seek His will for our lives and our church.

### Key Takeaways

1. God's Faithfulness and Remembrance: God never forgets His promises or His people. Throughout the Bible, we see instances where God remembered individuals like Noah, Abraham, and Rachel, and acted on their behalf. This same God remembers you and your struggles, and He is actively working in your life even when His hand seems hidden. [48:53]

2. The Hidden Hand of Providence: In the book of Esther, God's name is never mentioned, yet His providential hand is evident throughout the story. This teaches us that even when we don't see overt signs of God's presence, He is still at work, orchestrating events for our good and His glory. [59:57]

3. Embracing Divine Moments: Just as Esther was positioned for a specific purpose, we too are placed in our current circumstances for a reason. Every relationship, challenge, and opportunity is part of God's providential plan. We are called to embrace these moments and seek God's guidance in fulfilling His purpose for our lives. [01:08:24]

4. The Power of Fasting and Prayer: Fasting is a powerful spiritual discipline that helps us focus on God and seek His will. As a church, we are called to a 10-week period of fasting and prayer every Tuesday. This collective act of dependence on God will unite us and help us discern His direction for our church and our individual lives. [01:14:39]

5. Unity in Purpose: As we embark on this journey together, it's crucial to stay united in our mission. By fasting and praying together, we align our hearts with God's will and support each other in our spiritual growth. This unity will enable us to effectively carry out God's plans for our church and community. [01:12:59]

How happy are those who uphold justice and who practice righteousness at all times. Remember me, Lord, when you show favor to your people. Come to me with your salvation."
2. Esther 4:14 - "For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?"
3. Daniel 5:22-23 - "But you, Belshazzar, his son, have not humbled yourself, though you knew all this. Instead, you have set yourself up against the Lord of heaven. You had the goblets from his temple brought to you, and you and your nobles, your wives and your concubines drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand. But you did not honor the God who holds in his hand your life and all your ways."

Devotional

Day 1: God's Faithfulness and Remembrance
God never forgets His promises or His people. Throughout the Bible, we see instances where God remembered individuals like Noah, Abraham, and Rachel, and acted on their behalf. This same God remembers you and your struggles, and He is actively working in your life even when His hand seems hidden. Reflect on the story of King Belshazzar from the book of Daniel, who arrogantly used sacred vessels for a pagan feast, only to be confronted by God's hand writing on the wall. This story sets the stage for our study of Esther, where God's providence is evident even though His name is never mentioned. [48:53]

Genesis 8:1 (ESV): "But God remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the livestock that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind blow over the earth, and the waters subsided."

Reflection: Think of a time when you felt forgotten or overlooked. How can you remind yourself today that God remembers you and is actively working in your life?

Day 2: The Hidden Hand of Providence
In the book of Esther, God's name is never mentioned, yet His providential hand is evident throughout the story. This teaches us that even when we don't see overt signs of God's presence, He is still at work, orchestrating events for our good and His glory. The story begins with a lavish feast thrown by King Ahasuerus, which leads to Queen Vashti's removal and sets the stage for Esther's rise to queenship. This seemingly insignificant event was actually a divine setup for God's plan to save His people. [59:57]

Esther 4:14 (ESV): "For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father's house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?"

Reflection: Reflect on a situation in your life where you didn't see God's hand at work initially. How can you trust in His hidden providence in your current circumstances?

Day 3: Embracing Divine Moments
Just as Esther was positioned for a specific purpose, we too are placed in our current circumstances for a reason. Every relationship, challenge, and opportunity is part of God's providential plan. We are called to embrace these moments and seek God's guidance in fulfilling His purpose for our lives. Esther's story reminds us that God positions His people for His purposes, even when the path seems unclear. [01:08:24]

Ephesians 2:10 (ESV): "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."

Reflection: Identify a current challenge or opportunity in your life. How can you embrace this moment as part of God's divine plan and seek His guidance in it?

Day 4: The Power of Fasting and Prayer
Fasting is a powerful spiritual discipline that helps us focus on God and seek His will. As a church, we are called to a 10-week period of fasting and prayer every Tuesday. This collective act of dependence on God will unite us and help us discern His direction for our church and our individual lives. Whether it's fasting from food, social media, or other distractions, the goal is to turn our focus to God and seek His will. [01:14:39]

Joel 2:12-13 (ESV): "Yet even now," declares the Lord, "return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your hearts and not your garments." Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster."

Reflection: What is one thing you can fast from this week to help you focus more on God? How can this act of fasting help you seek His will more clearly?

Day 5: Unity in Purpose
As we embark on this journey together, it's crucial to stay united in our mission. By fasting and praying together, we align our hearts with God's will and support each other in our spiritual growth. This unity will enable us to effectively carry out God's plans for our church and community. We are reminded that God remembers us and has brought us to this moment for a purpose. [01:12:59]

Philippians 2:2 (ESV): "Complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind."
