There are moments in life when we find ourselves in unexpected places, sometimes running from our past or from difficult circumstances, only to discover that God has been orchestrating our journey all along. Like Jacob, who fled from his brother and ended up in a place he did not expect, we may not always understand why we are where we are, but God uses these moments to shape us and reveal His presence. Trusting that God has a purpose for every season and location in our lives allows us to embrace His leading, even when the path is unclear. [11:53]
Genesis 28:10-17 (ESV)
10 Jacob left Beersheba and went toward Haran. 11 And he came to a certain place and stayed there that night, because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down in that place to sleep. 12 And he dreamed, and behold, there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. And behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it! 13 And behold, the Lord stood above it and said, “I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. The land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring. 14 Your offspring shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south, and in you and your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed. 15 Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” 16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.” 17 And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”
Reflection: Where in your life do you feel out of place or uncertain, and how might God be using this season or location to shape your faith and future?
It is easy to uproot ourselves when things get difficult, but God calls us to remain where He has planted us, trusting that He has a reason for placing us in a particular community or church. Just as Jacob found himself in a place of encounter, we are reminded that God is omnipresent and meets us in specific places for specific purposes. Staying rooted, even when it is uncomfortable, allows us to receive the growth, healing, and blessings that God has prepared for us in that season. [15:36]
Jeremiah 3:15 (ESV)
“And I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.”
Reflection: Is there a place or community where you have been tempted to leave, and what might God be inviting you to learn or receive by staying rooted there?
There comes a time when spiritual ignorance is removed and we awaken to the reality that God is present in our midst. Like Jacob, who woke up and realized, “Surely God is in this place,” we are called to open our eyes to the sacredness of where God has placed us. Recognizing God’s presence transforms ordinary places into holy ground and invites us to respond with reverence, gratitude, and a renewed sense of purpose. [21:58]
Ephesians 5:14 (ESV)
For anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you need to “wake up” and recognize God’s presence and activity today?
God is a God of seasons, and each season has its own purpose and lessons. Whether it is a time of prayer, sacrificial giving, growth, or outreach, embracing the season God has placed us in allows us to fully participate in His work. Complaining or resisting the season does not change it; instead, we are called to discern and engage with what God is doing right now, trusting that He knows what is best for us and for His church. [24:03]
Ecclesiastes 3:1 (ESV)
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.
Reflection: What season do you sense God has you in right now, and how can you fully embrace and participate in what He is doing?
True growth in the church happens when every member takes ownership of their role and commits to growing together. When we realize that we are not just attendees but vital parts of the body, we begin to pray, serve, and give with intentionality. This sense of ownership leads to deeper connection, greater impact, and a church that thrives as each person moves forward in faith and commitment. [32:51]
Romans 12:4-6 (ESV)
For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them.
Reflection: What is one specific way you can take greater ownership of your role in the church this week, contributing to the growth and health of the whole body?
Today marks eight years of God’s faithfulness to our community—a journey that has included both those who have been here from the beginning and those who joined just recently. Each person, regardless of when they arrived, is part of this story, and each has a role in building what God is doing among us. Like Jacob, who found himself in an unexpected place while running from his past, we often end up in places not by our own design, but by God’s orchestration. Sometimes, the very places we want to escape are the ones where God intends to meet us, shape us, and reveal His presence.
Jacob’s encounter at Bethel reminds us that God is not limited by our circumstances or our mistakes. He is the God of seasons, and He plants us in specific places for reasons that may not be immediately clear. It is tempting to uproot ourselves when things get difficult or uncomfortable, but there is a blessing in staying where God has placed us—whether that is permanent or temporary. The church is not just a building or a tent; it is the house of God, a place of encounter, growth, and transformation.
There are three key responses when we realize God has placed us somewhere: awakening from spiritual ignorance, developing a holy reverence for God’s house, and taking ownership of the vision and mission. When our eyes are opened, we see that God is present, even in the ordinary or challenging places. Reverence for God’s house means recognizing its sacredness and approaching it with awe, not casualness. Ownership means moving from being a mere attendee to an invested member—praying, serving, and giving sacrificially.
As we celebrate this new season, symbolized by the number eight—a number of new beginnings and fresh starts—we are called to deeper commitment. Growth in the church happens as each member grows. This is a time to challenge ourselves, to move from passivity to active participation, and to embrace the new things God is doing. Just as God did something greater on the eighth day, we are invited to expect and pursue greater things in this new chapter.
Genesis 28:10-22 (ESV) — 10 Jacob left Beersheba and went toward Haran. This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.” 18 So early in the morning Jacob took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up for a pillar and poured oil on the top of it. 19 He called the name of that place Bethel, but the name of the city was Luz at the first. 20 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to wear, 21 so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God, 22 and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God’s house. And of all that you give me I will give a full tenth to you.”
Jeremiah 3:15 (ESV) — “And I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.”
Because I have decided this is my place, no matter how much you push me I am staying here. And I'm saying it's provided because what makes church important is that you've already received Christ. It is him who puts us in a place. [00:18:45] (50 seconds) #UnshakableInMyPlace
God is a God of seasons. God is a God of seasons. Whether when you are ready to move out of the season, when God says we are in this system, make sure what you are begging say, it won't change the season. Winter will winter, whether you like it or not. Because God is a God of season. [00:22:27] (29 seconds) #SeasonsOfDivineTiming
If the season is for me to be here, I will stay here. Because that is God. Surely when he woke up from his spiritual ignorance, he could not ignore. [00:22:56] (17 seconds) #FaithfulInEverySeason
Church is in a season of prayer. Church is in a season of sacrificially giving. The church is in a season of digging deep and growing and going out to evangelize. Going out and inviting. [00:23:59] (17 seconds) #ChurchInPrayerAndMission
Called to be a member in the grow itself. The church grows because every member grows. Challenge yourself. [00:32:33] (21 seconds) #GrowingTogetherInFaith
Make sure, say, as we enter this new thing symbolizes a new beginning. Symbolizes a fresh start. It was a confirmation of a covenant. [00:33:03] (22 seconds) #NewBeginningsCovenant
There were eight people who were saved in the flood of Noah. With eight people. The most powerful. Our Lord Jesus was raised after the seventh day, the Sabbath. So he was raised on the eighth day. So God did great things on Good Friday. But on the eighth day he did something even better. [00:33:25] (30 seconds) #VictoryBeyondTheEighth
