Embracing God's Love: A Journey of Faith

Sermon Summary

As I was singing that first song, it reminded me of the verse that I read yesterday, the Lord is good and his love endures forever. Now, I don't know about you, but whenever I've read that verse, I just think his love goes on forever, which it does. But what does endure mean? [00:06:58] (26 seconds)

But endure means to do the hard yards, to be with someone constantly, to be there through thick and thin. God's love endures forever. No matter what this year has looked like, no matter if this year is a year you'd like to maybe finish, put aside and start again, or whether it's been a great year, his love endures forever. [00:07:24] (32 seconds)

I long to see you, says Paul, so that I may impart some spiritual wisdom to you. I'm so grateful that you're here. I'm so grateful to make you strong. And then this is the part I highlighted. That is that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith. [00:09:45] (18 seconds)

We're encouraging each other in our faith by remembering, by reflecting, by telling stories, by connecting with each other, as we encourage each other in sharing Jesus. And by gospel, telling to each other, which just means telling the good news. That's what we're doing today. [00:10:04] (20 seconds)

Some of us are really great at this. Thinking back, reflecting, processing. Some people, like me, doesn't come as naturally, but it is good to do. It's good to do. So here's some things. Maybe you might like to think of three specific things in your life from 2023. [00:10:50] (20 seconds)

When we see him feeding the 5,000, he was generous. When we see him sitting at the well with a woman who was so sinful in the eyes of the culture she was living in, he was generous with his time and his words and his forgiveness. When we see him with his disciples, he was generous with how he taught them and led them and he was patient with them. [01:00:28] (29 seconds)

And this applies to our money just as much as it does to any other parts of our life. And my encouragement today would be in 2024, just come to him and ask him, what do you want me to do? What do you want me to give? How would you like me to love? How would you like me to be generous? [01:01:43] (18 seconds)

Jesus put, and actually our whole story with God, there's so many examples of a way that God has put in place moments, opportunities, rhythms, patterns. Just like our communion today, where we stop and pause and reflect on what God is doing. And he speaks to us and brings transformation through that process. [01:04:23] (21 seconds)
