Embracing God's Love: A Holistic Faith Journey
Summary
Summary:
Today, we embark on a new series titled "I Love You," focusing on the profound impact of these three words in our lives. We begin by exploring the most crucial relationship we have—our relationship with God. Just as a fish is meant to live in water, we are meant to be in a relationship with God. This relationship is foundational, and Jesus emphasizes its importance in a conversation with a teacher of the law in Mark 12. When asked about the greatest commandment, Jesus responds with the Shema from Deuteronomy, urging us to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
Loving God with our heart involves expressing gratitude and worship, recognizing His provision and protection in our lives. It is about allowing our emotions to align with His love. Loving God with our soul requires intentional soul care, setting aside distractions to focus on our spiritual well-being. It involves confessing our sins and seeking God's presence. Loving God with our mind means engaging our intellect in our faith journey, allowing His Word to shape our worldview and transform our thoughts. Finally, loving God with our strength involves dedicating our physical and mental energy to His service, recognizing that our strength is interconnected with every aspect of our being.
As we journey through this series, we are invited to examine how we can love God more fully in every area of our lives. This holistic approach to faith challenges us to integrate our love for God into every fiber of our being, impacting our relationships, work, and daily choices. Let us commit to loving God with everything we have, seeking His strength and guidance in our journey of faith.

Devotional
Day 1: Known and Loved
In moments of feeling truly known and loved, we often experience a profound sense of peace and belonging. These moments can be found in childhood memories, relationships, or spiritual encounters. Recognizing that God sees and loves us deeply, even in our emptiness and brokenness, can transform our relationship with Him. This understanding assures us that we are never alone, and it invites us to embrace His love more fully in our lives. Reflecting on these experiences can help us appreciate the depth of God's love and presence in our lives. [43:42]
Psalm 139:1-4 (ESV): "O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether."
Reflection: Think of a time when you felt truly known and loved. How can you invite God into your life today to experience that same depth of love and understanding?
Day 2: The Power of Love
The words "I love you" carry immense power to heal, comfort, and bring peace. In our relationship with God, these words remind us of our purpose and calling. We are created to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, allowing His love to permeate every aspect of our lives. This love is not just a feeling but a commitment to live out our faith in every area of our lives. By embracing God's love, we find our true identity and purpose, which empowers us to love others genuinely. [46:14]
1 John 4:19-21 (ESV): "We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, 'I love God,' and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother."
Reflection: Consider how the power of love has impacted your life. How can you express God's love to someone in your life today in a tangible way?
Day 3: Holistic Faith
Jesus' response to the teacher of the law emphasizes a holistic approach to faith. Loving God is not about compartmentalizing our lives but integrating our love for Him into every area. This interconnectedness challenges us to live authentically, allowing God's love to shape our decisions and interactions. By embracing a holistic faith, we invite God into every aspect of our lives, from our relationships to our work, and allow His love to guide us in all we do. [50:45]
Colossians 3:17 (ESV): "And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."
Reflection: Reflect on an area of your life where you have compartmentalized your faith. How can you begin to integrate your love for God into this area today?
Day 4: Soul Care
In a world that often neglects the soul, we are called to prioritize soul care. This involves setting aside distractions, confessing our sins, and seeking God's presence. By nurturing our soul, we align ourselves with God's purpose and experience His transformative work in our lives. Soul care is essential for spiritual growth and helps us remain grounded in our faith, even amidst life's challenges. [01:02:43]
Psalm 42:1-2 (ESV): "As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?"
Reflection: Identify a distraction that is hindering your soul care. What steps can you take today to prioritize your spiritual well-being and seek God's presence?
Day 5: Strength in Weakness
Loving God with all our strength means dedicating our energy to His service, even when we feel weak. It involves recognizing that our strength is interconnected with our heart, soul, and mind. By seeking God's strength, we can overcome challenges and live out our faith with resilience and purpose. In our weakness, God's strength is made perfect, empowering us to serve Him wholeheartedly. [01:13:15]
2 Corinthians 12:9-10 (ESV): "But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong."
Reflection: Reflect on a current challenge where you feel weak. How can you rely on God's strength today to overcome this challenge and serve Him with purpose?
Quotes
We were known and loved. We were known because she saw us. We live in a culture where we so often just pass by people. But she saw us and she would notice enough to see if you were wearing something that had a heart on it. And then she would bring you up and she would show you that you are loved. [00:43:48]
Maybe you felt unseen and you read something in scripture or you were at church or you were at a Bible study. And you just really felt like, God saw you and he knew you and he loved you. Today, we're starting a brand new sermon series called I Love You. And these three words, I love you, actually might be the three most powerful words that we say to anyone. [00:45:00]
The most important one answered Jesus is this hero Israel the Lord our God the Lord is one love the Lord your God with all your heart with all your soul with all your mind and with all your strength that's what he says he says it's love Jesus is quoting from Deuteronomy. [00:50:45]
Jesus gave the audience this original audience this holistic approach to faith I think sometimes we try to compartmentalize our faith we try to say well like this is when I come worship and this is I my work and this is my relationship and this is my softball team and if I can keep everything separate and Jesus said no that's not what it is. [00:59:18]
I think that's one way that we can love him with our heart, is we just express this gratitude and this thanks to him. The next thing that Jesus instructed us to do was to love God with all our soul. I think this might be the easiest way to love God and the most difficult at the same time. [01:00:56]
Our soul is the most real part of us, and you and I live in a world that has perfectly neglected caring for the soul. We have figured out a way to make our life so busy that the Sabbath is just brushed aside. Kids' sports happen all the time. We schedule meetings all the time. We're on social media. We have notifications. [01:02:25]
Sometimes we have to get our sin out of the way so we can say, okay, God, here I am. What's this work you want? What's this work you want? do in my soul? How do I love you with all of my soul? Now, I know for most of us, confessing our sin is not like at the top of our priority list, but if we're going to have a healthy relationship with God, I think we need to move it up. [01:04:34]
To love God with all your mind means to think about him in everything, to let the truth of his word shape your worldview. Your mind is pretty amazing. I don't know if you know this. I don't know if you know how amazing your mind is. This week, I asked Chad, GPT. You like that, huh? [01:06:18]
Your thoughts can change your brain structure. This is called neuroplasticity. What you think about regularly shapes the physical structure of your brain. And then the last one, this was just, your brain consumes 20 % of your body's energy. I believe that God can renew our brains. I believe that he can rewire our brains. [01:07:12]
I think here's another aspect of loving God with our mind that I want to continually encourage our church to do. I want you to find somewhere in God's word and I want you to read it on a regular basis. I think one of the best ways that we can do that is to read it on a regular basis. The first thing that we love God with our mind is we put his word into our mind. [01:08:52]
Coastline, I think that God wants us to learn to love him with all of our strength. I think he wants us to learn to love him in every part of this. If you're taking notes, write this down. I will love God with my everything. I want you to make a commitment today to love God with everything that you have. [01:12:16]
Some of you are struggling and you just need to get out of your bed in the morning and fall on your knees in front of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and say, I just can't do it. Will you give me the strength, Lord? Will you make it happen? [01:13:48]
