Sermon Summary

Sermon Clips

1) "We live in an imperfect nation. Ruled by imperfect people, right? Our country has made some big mistakes and big problems, but all in all, there was this initial idea of a place under God where we could have freedom. That's a big word for our founding fathers, freedom. And I think sometimes we take it a little bit for granted, right? We're going to be talking a bit later today about going on some trips and going around the world. And I think sometimes here, especially those of us who've just been born here and have lived here, miss that bigger perspective of how beautiful it is that we can come here on a Sunday morning and worship, right?" 2) "Fear is an emotion that can grip us, that can cripple us, that can keep us dead in our tracks. It's the apprehension about, I know what's coming. So it's an emotion about looking into the future and being scared of it. I believe what Jesus is talking about is that here he's called his disciples. He's equipped with them. He's walked with them for years. And he's told them about this moment. He told them that he would be sacrificed and die and on the third day rise again and what that meant. This is the point where he's challenging them to go. You have everything you guys need. Why? Because I am with you. You don't have to fear." 3) "Did you know that you have authority in Jesus name? We might not feel it. We might not think that. But, but when we go out in Jesus name to do his work, we have his authority. We have the power of the Holy Spirit working through us. We have, we have the ability to tread on serpents. Again, this is Jesus is using the metaphor of Satan. Remember Satan in the garden presented himself. To Eve as a serpent, as a snake. So Jesus is saying even Satan himself and any of the demons, fallen angels who are working with him to try and dissuade you from following God, to try and dissuade you from working with him. You have authority over them. You can stomp on their heads. Isn't that awesome?" [27:06] (43 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

4) "He doesn't promise that walking with him won't be scary, but he does promise to be with us. So I mentioned some challenges, right? We have, in our faith, in our culture, like I said, the government's not going to kick down our door. We can have a Bible, whether we read it or not. That's on us. But we can have it. That's good. Right? So what do we think? What do we face? One thing I think we face in our culture is what you guys are doing right now, like taking time to come here on a Sunday. Our culture, if you haven't noticed, like shift and shift and shift, there's a lot more happening on Sundays." [33:50] (36 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

5) "We read from Mark and when, you know, we went from Mark and Jesus said, go proclaim. Snakes won't hurt you. Nothing will hurt you. Look what happened next, the next verse. So this is Mark chapter 16, verse 19. And we'll close with this. So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat at the right hand, which is the right hand again, of God. And they went out, they, the disciples, and they went out and they preached everywhere while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs."
