And the Bible's pretty clear that heaven is reserved for only one kind, one group of people. And those are people who have been saved. Now I'm gonna use that word on purpose because the Bible uses the word saved. And I'll show you that verse in just a minute, but it doesn't mean we're good enough. It doesn't mean we've done a lot of right things. It just means we said yes to the invitation to be rescued. Okay. And this is just a function of faith, of belief. [00:04:42] (26 seconds) Edit Clip

I wanna talk to you about some of the things we're saved from, those of us who have been rescued and said yes to this invitation. First of all, we're saved from self. Every person on earth has, I think the most basic temptation is to make life all about me. But nobody who makes life all about themselves experiences satisfaction or fulfillment or a sense of purpose. [00:05:27] (23 seconds) Edit Clip

And they've used those means to make themselves the point and they've perhaps, you know, been able to do just about anything in life they want to do. And on the other end of all that adventure or whatever it is, is not a sense of fulfillment because we mistook the means for the purpose, for the end. Does that make sense? No matter where we are in life, we need to be rescued, saved from self. [00:07:35] (28 seconds) Edit Clip

Sin is not good, but let me tell you what sin actually is. The word sin is a very old archery term. And it simply means you're aiming for something like a bullseye. It's to sin just means to miss the mark. I want you to think about that, just to miss the mark. [00:08:56] (18 seconds) Edit Clip

It's not about me thinking I'm awesome. Can I tell you something? A lot of people don't want to go to church because they think everybody there just thinks they're better than everybody else. If somebody thinks they're better than somebody else, they're not reading the same Bible I read. Because if you believe the word of God, one of the things that Bible -believing Christians believe is not that we're awesome, but that he is awesome and he traded my failures for his righteousness. It's healthy sometimes we do something wrong to have that feeling like, yeah, I shouldn't do that again. But shame is never good. In fact, the difference between guilt, which can be healthy, and shame, which is never good for us, is guilt says, you know what, I did something wrong. Shame says I am something wrong. It's an identity confusion. [00:11:04] (20 seconds) Edit Clip

Rather than saying, no, I'm made in God's image. God has a good plan for my life. I may not be worthy of it, but Jesus made me worthy because of that trade we just talked about. And that's not who I am. I am a follower of Jesus. [00:11:41] (16 seconds) Edit Clip

But the promises in the Bible speak of our salvation as incorruptible. I don't want you to see this. First Peter one, blessed be the God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ. According to his great mercy. Come on. How many of you are thankful for the mercy of God? He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead to an inheritance that is imperishable. It's incorruptible. If you ever go to a funeral and you hear a Christian pastor talking about death, almost without exception, you're gonna hear this verse of scripture. Oh death, where is your victory? Oh death, where is your sting? Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. [00:16:16] (20 seconds) Edit Clip
