Let us pray together. Heavenly Father, we come before you with grateful hearts, remembering your faithfulness and unfailing love. Lord, as the psalmist declares, you turned our mourning into dancing. You removed our sackcloth and clothed us with joy.

When God challenges you on the way you're doing things, how do you respond to that? When you read something in scripture or when the pastor says something over the pulpit that kind of tweaks you a little bit and challenges the way you're doing things, how do you respond to that?

Nobody is above God's correction. I was listening to a pastor who was talking about having conversations, kind of a pastor of pastors, having these conversations with a lot of these pastors who have fallen, who have gone into these dark times in their life, who have done these things that were misguided and actually harmed the church.

Because God is a holy God. I think R.C. Sproul, a theologian, said, I didn't fall out of love with Jesus, but I didn't respect God's holiness. I think R.C. Sproul, a theologian, great man of God, has some great insights into God. He highly emphasizes God's holiness.

And we see that image when we look at the book of Isaiah, we look at Revelation, we see in Isaiah 6, we see the throne room of God, and we see the angels that are rejoicing, and they're praising and worshiping God. And what do they point out about God? What do they say over and over again? It's not his love, it's not his wrath, it's not his justice, it's not his mercy, but they cry out, holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty.

When we're talking about God, what does it mean to be holy? Now, God, God is a perfect entity. God is perfect in all ways. He is the barometer of what perfection is. He is the barometer of what holiness is.

When David's writing what he acknowledges over and over again, he's saying that God delivers him in every trial. When we are going through trials, when we are God's people, when we are God's children, he brings us through every trial.

We being may stay overnight, but there is joy in the morning. No matter what our trials are, what we come to recognize is that the joy that we experience after the trial, is so much more worthwhile and so much more fulfilling than the despair that we had while we were in the pit.

When I was secure, I said, I will never be shaken. Lord, when you showed your favor, you made me stand like a strong mountain. When you hid your face, I was terrified.

That's what he was getting at. He began to realize that when he began to be self-reliant and pour out his own self-accolades, God would begin to hide his face. Not to bring judgment and condemnation, but for what? To correct, to restore. To bring him back.
