1. "If we truly understand God's grace, we will see that his grace is much greater, not only than our sins, but much greater than our understanding. And we see this here in chapter two in Jonah, because all the way through chapter one, we see Jonah disappointing God time and time and time again. Right? Right? Right? But going after Jonah this entire time until he's finally caught in the belly of this big fish, and now he prays." [02:48] (38 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

2. "The power of prayer in desperation. Have you ever been there? Because it's one thing when you pray, oh Lord, thank you for everything. Life is good. Family is good. My job is good. Oh, I'm so blessed, and off you go. But have you ever been in a situation where it's absolute chaos? At many times in your prayer life, you can't find words. This, where Jonah here is praying, he's praying in a place of desperation because he knows that there is no other way around." [07:56] (44 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

3. "Many of us have idols in our lives. We just don't call them idols. I'm self-righteous. I'm self-worth. I'm self-taught. I'm self-made. And I base my life on that and not on God's grace. Because every time we say, you know what, God, I don't need you because I am self-sufficient. You know what you're doing? You're forfeiting God's grace in your life. God, I am beautiful. I am healthy. I do all these things. I will only reach out to you when I need you. Please answer my prayer, my five-minute prayer, so I can go back to living my life. And that can be a major idol in your life." [13:00] (62 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

4. "When you understand God's grace, you will know that God's grace is a leveler. We are all on the same level. Nobody is better or worse than anybody else. All we brought to him was our sins. I like that hymn, to the cross I cling. I brought nothing. I got nothing in my hands. All I can do is what? Cling to the cross. When we understand that like Jonah is understanding now in the depths of the ocean, he realizes that, wait a minute, this God of Israel is also the God of the Assyrians. He is also the God of the Ninevites. And he loves them too." [21:16] (51 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

5. "When you humble yourself, when you come towards the end of yourself, when you surrender, He will make your life new. He will give you a new life, not a better life, not a polished-up life. No, He will give you a brand new life, a life worth living because He loves you unconditionally. And He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for all of your sins." 6. "If you cling on to that, you don't know, don't understand, and you're forfeiting God's grace in your life. Do you know another idol? Religious. I go to church every Sunday. I read my Bible every day. I pray three times a day. God ought to do this to me. That could be an idol. And how many times have I seen inside the church people that cling to these things and you say, because I've done this, God, you owe me. Is that grace?" 7. "Jonah comes to the end of his life, to the end of himself, and he says, you know what? There is no other way. There is nothing more that I can do. So now I must surrender. And when he surrenders, he sees the glimpse of grace that we now know because of Jesus Christ. And verse 9, this is what he says, But I, with shouts of grateful praise, will sacrifice to you what I have vowed to make good. And I will say, Salvation comes from the Lord." 8. "When we recognize God's grace in our life and we start praying for those people, imagine the transformation that God can do in our life. When you finally recognize that you're not better than anybody else, you're not worthy than anybody else, you're a sinner just like everybody else, and through Jesus' perfect sacrifice on the cross, we are now accepted by him." 9. "Take this one with you that many times things happen in our lives. Remember, God is behind it. But my health is going down the tube. God is behind My job is not going very well. God is behind it. He knows what you need. He knows where you are. And many times in these moments of despair, these moments of trials, of tribulations, He wants to get your attention. Do you think God got Jonah's attention? I'm sure He did. And I pray that He will get your attention as well." [25:18] (44 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

10. "When you have this concept, and this is God's grace in our life, we, all of us, are undeserving. And when you have this religious spirit inside you, well, look at me. I've read the Bible more than anybody in this church. Certainly God must love me more. I pray more than all of you combined. Certainly God must listen to my prayers. That becomes an idol in your life. And you and you alone are forfeiting God's grace. God's grace is something that is undeserving for you and for me."
