Embracing Generosity: A Heartfelt Response to God's Love

Summary

### Summary

Today's message focused on the profound impact of generosity and how it aligns with God's principles. The book of Proverbs teaches that the generous will be rewarded and those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. This was illustrated through a real-life example involving the church's air conditioning units, which were generously replaced by Five Stones Ministries. This act of generosity not only solved a practical problem but also demonstrated how God blesses those who give selflessly.

Generosity is not about coercion or manipulation; it's about a heartfelt desire to give. When we are generous, God works in our lives to refresh and reward us. This principle is not just about financial giving but extends to our time, talents, and testimonies. The early church exemplified this by sharing everything they had, ensuring no one was in need. This spirit of generosity created a community where God's grace was powerfully at work.

The message also emphasized the importance of having a genuine relationship with God. When we fall in love with Jesus, our actions, including our generosity, become a natural outflow of that love. This is not about external obligation but internal motivation. The story of the Macedonian church, which gave generously despite their severe trials, serves as a powerful example of grace giving. They gave not because they had to, but because they wanted to, driven by their love for God and others.

In conclusion, the call to action is to become grace givers—people who give out of gratitude and love, not guilt. This involves recognizing our blessings, loving others as God does, and deepening our relationship with Jesus. When we do this, our generosity will not only bless others but also bring us joy and fulfillment.

Devotional

Day 1: Generosity Reflects God's Principles
Generosity is a core principle in God's kingdom, as highlighted in the book of Proverbs. The scripture teaches that those who are generous will be rewarded, and those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. This principle was vividly illustrated through the real-life example of Five Stones Ministries, who generously replaced the church's air conditioning units. This act of kindness not only addressed a practical need but also demonstrated how God blesses those who give selflessly. Generosity is not just about financial giving; it encompasses our time, talents, and testimonies. When we give from the heart, we align ourselves with God's principles and open the door for His blessings in our lives. [07:55]

Proverbs 11:25 (ESV): "Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered."

Reflection: Think of a recent opportunity you had to be generous. How did it make you feel, and how do you think it aligned with God's principles of generosity?

Day 2: Heartfelt Giving Over Coercion
True generosity stems from a heartfelt desire to give, not from coercion or manipulation. When we give generously, God works in our lives to refresh and reward us. This principle extends beyond financial giving to include our time, talents, and testimonies. The early church exemplified this by sharing everything they had, ensuring no one was in need. This spirit of generosity created a community where God's grace was powerfully at work. When we give from the heart, we experience the joy and fulfillment that comes from knowing we are making a difference in the lives of others. [10:04]

2 Corinthians 9:7 (ESV): "Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."

Reflection: Reflect on a time when you felt pressured to give. How did that experience differ from a time when you gave out of a genuine desire to help? How can you cultivate a heart of cheerful giving?

Day 3: The Early Church's Example
The early church set a powerful example of generosity by sharing everything they had, ensuring no one was in need. This spirit of generosity created a community where God's grace was powerfully at work. The early believers understood that their resources were not their own but were given to them by God to be used for the benefit of others. This collective giving not only met the needs of the community but also demonstrated the love and unity that comes from living out God's principles. When we follow the example of the early church, we create a community where God's grace can flourish. [29:51]

Acts 4:32-35 (ESV): "Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold and laid it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need."

Reflection: How can you contribute to creating a community of generosity in your church or neighborhood? What practical steps can you take to share your resources with those in need?

Day 4: Internal Motivation Over External Obligation
Generosity should stem from an internal motivation rather than an external obligation. When we fall in love with Jesus, our actions, including our generosity, become a natural outflow of that love. This is about grace giving—giving because we want to, not because we have to. The story of the Macedonian church, which gave generously despite their severe trials, serves as a powerful example of grace giving. They gave not because they had to, but because they wanted to, driven by their love for God and others. When our generosity is motivated by love, it brings joy and fulfillment to both the giver and the receiver. [11:55]

2 Corinthians 8:2-4 (ESV): "For in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints."

Reflection: What motivates your generosity? Is it love and gratitude, or is it obligation and guilt? How can you shift your mindset to give out of love and joy?

Day 5: Gratitude Fuels Generosity
Recognizing our blessings and being grateful fuels our generosity. When we are grateful, we can be incredibly generous, knowing that everything we have comes from God. This mindset shifts our focus from guilt to gratitude, enabling us to give joyfully. When we acknowledge God's blessings in our lives, we are more inclined to share those blessings with others. Gratitude transforms our perspective, allowing us to see opportunities for generosity in every aspect of our lives. By cultivating a heart of gratitude, we can become grace givers who bless others and experience the joy and fulfillment that comes from living a generous life. [23:09]

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (ESV): "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."

Reflection: Take a moment to list the blessings in your life. How can you use these blessings to be generous to others? What specific actions can you take today to express your gratitude through generosity?

### Quotes for Outreach

1. "The book of Proverbs says that the generous will be rewarded. Those who refresh will be refreshed. You know we've had an A.C. problem... Five Stones Ministries is going to replace both of those A.C. units. Absolutely. You know. And I say that because the generous, which is Five Stones Ministries. Every time a company is ever sewn into A.H.C. They have flourished exponentially. Okay. And so I know that Five Stones, whether they need it or not, that's just the way God works. The generous will be rewarded. When they refresh someone, they too will be refreshed." [07:55](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

And if we can get the message of hope out, that means the people who have no hope, who find themselves being hopeless. Maybe they're in a bad time in their life, and they're just hopeless. They don't know which way to head. But if we can get the message that there is hope, and that hope is in Jesus Christ. Amen. And that will change their life. Amen. And so that's, get that hope out there. Let's encourage people with hope." [11:25](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

1. "I study it. I try to implement what I read, the principles and the precepts that I find in the Word. And I see that it always works. You know. And we've been talking about generosity. We talked about it last week. We're going to finish up that little two-part series today. But generous, being generous. When you're generous, God gets into your life. He works in your life to refresh you, to reward you, to give you the ability, not only the ability, but the desire on the inside to be generous to other people. It's fantastic stuff." 2. "If you love Jesus, you'll love the people that Jesus loves. Okay. Verse six. So we urge Titus, just as he had earlier made, made a beginning to bring also a completion to completion, this act of grace on your part. But since you excel in everything in faith and speech and knowledge and complete earnestness and in love, we have kindled in you see that you also excel in this grace of giving. In other words, I want you to enjoy it more now than you've ever enjoyed giving before." [01:19:28](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

3. "I want to lead you to a place of life. Not where you, not where you have to, but where you want to. God wants your heart, not necessarily your behavior. Okay. Works is not what motivates God. Your heart is what motivates God. It's just like in your marriage. Let me see if I can help you with this. This is not true in my marriage, but just for sake of illustration. So I'm married to cricket. You guys know that. Married 46 years this year. I've almost forgotten what it was like with not being married. But anyway, let's say I go to cricket and say, cricket, I'm not going to cheat on you. I'm going to be faithful because the law says I cannot commit adultery. Are you with me? Okay. So I really couldn't care about you, but I'm not going anywhere. I'm going to be faithful because I have to or you're with me? Let's look at the other side. Because I believe cricket would prefer me to go go, baby, I am faithful. I'm not going to commit adultery, not because of the law, but because I'm in love with you. Do you see the difference?" 4. "I want to show you a story of a fundraising campaign that I found in the Bible. Paul was involved in a fundraising campaign. He was trying to raise an offering so that he was going to give to the church of Jerusalem, the first church of Jerusalem. The first church of Jerusalem was poor. They didn't have a bunch, even though they, they were the original church. And so we know that Paul planted many churches across Greece and Turkey, right? And a lot of the new Testament writings or the books that Paul wrote were to these churches. And one of them was a little church in Greece and a little city by the name of Corinth. And so the book of course is called Corinthians. We know that he had taken this offering and he had just gotten back from an area called Macedonia, which is just North of Greece. And he comes to this Corinthian church. And this is what he says in second Corinthians eight, first one. And now brothers and sisters, we want you to know about the grace that God has given to the Macedonian church or churches. Now remember grace is I want to not, not I have to. Okay. In the midst of a very severe trial. So we know that the Macedonian church was experiencing a very, very severe economic trial. They had no money. We're in, we're talking about Macedonia in the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity for I testify that they gave as much as they were able and even beyond their ability. They gave themselves first of all to the Lord and then by the will of God also to us." [01:17:29](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

5. "I want to lead you to a real vibrant relationship with a very real and alive God. One, a relationship that you can enjoy being with him. And I promise you on the other side of that relationship are all the things that you want to do, not have to do because our giving, our serving, our giving, our serving, our reading the Bible, our praying are not transactional. They are relational because we're in love with Jesus." [01:35:32](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)
