"about how we don't really grow closer to God when the sea's smooth, you know, when things are easy, when things are going our way, we don't tend to plead with God to help us in those moments. It is when, it was, the phrase was taught to me, the gift of desperation. When he gives us a gift of desperation. Desperation doesn't feel good. It's not where we want to be, but there sure is a lot of growth that happens right there, isn't there?" [00:00:00]

"This seemed like a good idea to Abram to make up this big lie to protect himself. And really, he won from it in terms of getting all these animals that Scripture tells us that he's got. But this same guy, the same guy that God is making these promises to, that he's making this covenant with, he makes an even stronger covenant a little later, but this lying, scheming, sorry excuse of a husband did all that right after he heard what God promised him. So, my belief is God uses all these broken, lying, scheming." [00:10:54]

"i mean the voices he was listening to it made perfect sense matter of fact not only did it make perfect sense he felt like he needed to do that so not only was it a ridiculous plan he was convinced that it was the right thing for him to do now if you study the rest of that scripture it doesn't look like there's any repentance they tell him to leave egypt i can't see where he said oh lord i'm sorry for my behavior at least not here i can't see where he's like boy i've made some terrible choices i can't see any of that in him but just from reading the story i could picture my life and how many times i've made those stupid decisions god's like here's a wife take her and love her here's your kids take them and be a good father here's some finances take them and take care of it and i'm like i almost wasted it all i almost gave it all away because of my stupid plan so i can relate to this guy i can relate to abram as a matter of fact i still believe that and there's so many examples of it this is why god uses these broken people so that we can have hope i mean if god can still love abram if god can still speak to abram if god can" [00:12:14]

"still be with abram after he's such a scheming lying fearful what he did it that was on there too right fear he did it out of fear because he didn't want the egyptians to kill him and take house just think about that for a minute he didn't want the egyptians to kill him and take his wife so what does he do he gives her away how ridiculous not a brain surgeon abraham is not a brain surgeon but god is with him matter of fact let's go on to the next scripture actually let me read you this one i don't think i made a slide for it it's it's 13 1 and 2." [00:13:35]

"God's still giving him. God's still blessing him. God's saying, go take a look. All this is yours. Of course, or will be. After he just pulled what he just pulled in Egypt. I mean, sometimes you scratch your head and go, what kind of God would do that? What kind of God would love someone who would make those decisions? Well, it's the kind of God that our God is." [00:15:45]

"seek to follow it's the one that we're studying about it's the voice that we're trying to hear the voice of truth the voice of truth you know the there's some things that I that we're going to go through this morning after we close the service but but one of the things I want to head us that direction now do you believe that Abraham that Abram do you believe Abram made some bad choices do you believe he was acting out of fear do you believe he was a liar there's a lot of things that we can say about Abram but God's still with them isn't he this guy this is the guy that we call father Abra Abraham so his name does get changed as much as I'm trying to change it before it actually gets changed Abraham the father of many nations the beginning of the world and the beginning of the world and the beginning of the nation of Israel it actually gets Jacob's name gets changed to Israel but Abraham is where it starts with the promise with the covenant that he made with Abram and so this is the guy that God's gonna bless and give and lead and trust and protect and prosper yeah Wow really yeah" [00:16:18]

"really so no matter what stupid choices i've made i could probably include you in there whatever stupid choices you've made whatever lies you've told whatever you thought was manipulating the situation to come out in your favor that was really against what god had intended for you to do he's still with you now you can't really tell it from what we shared with abram so far this morning but one of the things that comes along with that for us is another voice the voice that's either you or satan that tells you you're just no good you've made too many mistakes how could you be so worthless and stupid do you really think god could use someone like you do you really think that you are worthy to serve a perfect god do you really think that how could you have that in your mind you have screwed up way too many times and you're useless in god's kingdom that's not the voice of truth that's the voice of the enemy that's the one trying to convince you" [00:17:39]

"that you're not worthy that you're not good enough that you'll never be used by God as a matter of fact you're probably going to hell that's the voice that's telling you that because why would God save someone like you well let me tell you it's not because of you it's because of him it's because of him and now now that I've got you thinking about all these things that you've done and said and thought and all those things let me tell you what God says about you just just a snippet of it I mean I'm just going to read you like five verses hold on a minute you ready for this you ready for some good news I've already told you some bad news haven't I now I'm going to share with you some good news so Ephesians chapter 1 that says verses 3 through 14 but I'm not even going to use all that this morning so listen to the verse 3 through 14 and I'm going to tell you what God says about you and it's also about the reason these things are true so it starts out with this praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ so all the things" [00:19:01]

"you've done all the mistakes you've made all the all that stuff this is what he says spiritual blessings in christ for he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight in love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through christ jesus in accordance with his pleasure and will to the praise of his glorious grace which he has freely given us in the one he loves in him we have redemption through his blood and forgiveness of sins plural sins not sin sins plural in accordance with the riches of god's grace that he lavished on us" [00:20:21]

"I want to keep swapping the one voice I hear that tells me I'm no good for the other voice that says He loves me and He forgives me and He wants to spend time with me and He wants to use me. That He has things that He's made before the beginning of the earth for me to do. He's crafted me for a purpose. And He has... He has you too." [00:22:27]

"Let's do our part of removing what's in the way between us and God by admitting where we are struggling with our value, our lifestyle, our performance. I don't know what your struggle is, but I bet you got some because it is in the rain that we grow. It is in the trouble that He calls us. It is when we are going through these storms that we get the gift of desperation." [00:23:46]

"a humble and contrite heart oh lord you will not despise that's what david says so let's go there talk to him for a minute while i take care of some business here you are worthy of god's love he says it not me you can be forgiven of all your sins he says it not me he made you for a purpose he says it not me i'm just reiterating what he says you are loved i can tell you that my experience is there have been times when i wouldn't love me and some of them haven't been all that long ago he loves us anyway he forgives us anyway not because of how great you are but because of how wonderful he is if you have something you need to confess join the join the crowd join us just go ahead and just admit you know i've screwed up a bunch of i've been lying scheming cheating terrible husband he'll take all that away not only will he take that sin and guilt away he'll help me be a better person to stop the lion that's one there's some crazy things that he's done in my life that i can't stand to lie anymore even if i tell myself i'm doing it to help somebody not feel bad or help so i can't stand a lot" [00:24:43]
