Embracing Continuous Praise: A Call to Worship

Devotional

Sermon Summary

Sermon Clips

Our praise must not be limited to God's house. It's great praising with you people this morning. It's great having times of worship in this building. And I realize it's often easier. To praise him in church. It's easier to lift our praise with other believers with a wonderful list of songs and with the preaching of God's word and with other believers joining together in prayer. God is to be praised everywhere, all the time, by everything. Simple. Simple. Simple. God is to be praised. Psalm 150 is not the first psalm to present that idea. Psalm 139 addressed the same question in a different way. Where shall I go from your spirit? Where shall I free from your presence if I ascend to heaven? You're there. If I make my bed in Sheol, you're there. [00:11:03] (34 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

The writer of Psalm 150 goes further. He said that since God is everywhere, we should praise him everywhere. So that's the scary bit. Our praise must not be limited to God's house. It's great praising with you people this morning. It's great having times of worship in this building. [00:12:43] (26 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

The writer knew that praise is an important aspect of the life of the child of God. Always has been, always will be. You know, we've often sung in the past that song, All hail the Lamb, enthroned on high. His praise shall be our battle cry. Praise is important for our well-being. It's important for our spiritual warfare, too. [00:09:58] (33 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

The church that fails to find a way to dwell upon the majesty and sovereignty of God will become impoverished. Deny the place of ministry. Deny the miracles and spend its strength in vain. Those that refuse to be still will suffer the inner deafness of hyperactivity while still believing they're doing God's will. [00:03:45] (24 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

God is to be praised for his greatness. If that's not enough reason for you to praise, let me give you one more reason. God's power is unlimited. There is nothing small about God. There's nothing too little. For our Father in heaven, not even the tiniest grain of sand on the beach misses his attention. How could it? He put it there. The smallest grain of seed, the smallest insect, the smallest plant, the smallest star. Insignificant me. God knows them all. Listen. No matter how insignificant you feel this morning. No matter how insignificant. No matter how important you think you might be. Just remember, God has not forgotten you. How could he? He created you. The worship team are just worshippers using their talents to praise God and help us in our praise there is no elite there is no elite in praise and worship and ultimately there is only one worship group and that's the church of Jesus Christ and we are all part of it and we are all called to make a joyful noise to the Lord. The writer goes one step further the whole universe is the temple in which all of us are gathered to worship God see we don't have to wait until Sunday until Sunday or Tuesday or to live groups to worship God we can worship Him anywhere and everywhere because the whole universe and the whole world is His we can worship and praise and celebrate anywhere. Paul did that in Acts chapter 16 while he was in prison with Silas in the middle of the night the two of them decided to have a praise session and as they praised God the Bible says the prison was shaken to its foundations all the doors immediately flew open and the chains of every prisoner fell off.
