"If you sit down here, you can hear everybody singing. It's awesome. But it makes me cry. It always makes me cry. That's what Jeremy would just tell me as he walked off the stage. You can't quit crying because you're making me cry and I can't sing. So let's pull it together. Pull it together." [00:00:00] (12 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

"Perpiscuity of Scripture is this idea that Scripture is understandable for regular people, right? And so in the old days when the church was just beginning, the thinking was that common people couldn't understand Scripture. It was over their heads. So that's why we needed priests to kind of break it down for them and help them understand things. And so we still try to break down Scripture and we still try to help each other through understanding God's Word." [00:00:26] (19 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

"And what I love is what I see this church doing where people are stepping up in different roles of the church. We've got kids. We've got people that are adopting children. We've got people that are fostering children. We've got people that are CASAs, that are court -appointed special advocates for children. We've got people that are mentoring kids." "The world is a beautiful place, from sunsets on the beach to mountains covered with snow to plants and animals and the Grand Canyon. The world's beautiful. And it's also horrible with hurricanes and tornadoes and earthquakes and tsunamis. And that's not even talking about war and poverty and death and separation." "Sin is so much more than bad behaviors. Sin is a deforming, demonic force in the world and in us. And it's not new. I mean, all sin is a reflection of what a lot of people call the original sin. How many of you have been in this church and heard about the garden narrative before? Anybody heard that? It's kind of an important one." "we've all been unable to fully trust God's goodness and love and wisdom. And we've tried to find our identity, our security, our value, our protection, our provision, our peace, our purpose apart from God in a hundred different places like wealth and success and popularity and sex or pleasure. That's what sin is." [00:15:36] (27 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

"In fact, that's what the gospel is. That's what the word gospel means, is good news. And one of the first places we hear this good news is in Matthew. And this is the Archangel Gabriel. It's the Christmas story. And he's talking to Joseph about Mary. Look what he says. This is Matthew 1, 21." [00:16:52] (17 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

"So the series is about spiritual formation. It's a beginning for us, right? Of a lifetime journey of following Jesus and being with Him and becoming like Him and doing the things, that he does and it's it's preparation for us it's to get us ready to not just live in god's coming kingdom but to thrive in god's kingdom to to flourish in god's kingdom to matter in god's kingdom and to spend eternity in perfect communion with god just like jesus but this is just this is the beginning of it this thing is is is uh it's not a sprint it's a it's a marathon" [00:21:24] (43 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

"Sin layer number three is unconscious sin. And man, this is where we pass. This is why we say it's healing, not just stopping. Don't just stop sinning. You need healing from sin because this is where we go across this invisible line from the conscious to the unconscious, where it's much harder, John Mark says, to delineate between vice and virtue." "remember this is what got Adam and Eve in trouble they wanted to find their identity and their value and their purpose and their power and their peace their own way apart from God and so do we when we try to find our identity or our value or our purpose or our power or our peace in anything not named Jesus like health or success or wealth or reputation or marriage or kids or job or relational status or friendships or career or ministry or popularity again they're not bad things they're gifts from God the problem is not the gift the problem is our emotional attachment to the gifts because we cling on to these things because we genuinely believe that we need them to be happy" [00:37:01] (51 seconds) (Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

"for everything, for our provision, for our protection, for our value, for our identity, for our purpose, for our peace. And we can do what we were designed to do, which is to partner with him in ruling over this perfect world that he created. So the end goal of our spiritual journey is this counterintuitive, this radical, crazy, complete trust and surrender to God as our one true source of happiness and peace."
