Sermon Summary

Sermon Clips

When you start to think of who Jesus is, and you start to understand and get a grasp of what he did for us, and how much God loves us, that he would have a son go through the mockery and the beatings and everything. And then it's just absolutely amazing. [00:13:29] (24 seconds) Edit Clip

So today you're going to get to really just meditate on Jesus's love for you and Jesus's really submission and obedience to the Father. But you're also going to want to make sure that you have something to drink next to you. All right, I see that water bottle right there. Make sure you have something to drink and make sure you have a bread or a cracker or something to break because today is the Lord's Supper. [00:13:52] (25 seconds) Edit Clip

Jesus had all authority when the authorities came to arrest him. Let me give you two examples that we saw in the passage. One example is when the mob came. The mob came up with lanterns and swords and stuff. They came up to arrest Jesus. And they say, we're looking for Jesus. And he says, I am he. And what happens to the mob? Where do they go? They fall back onto the ground. [00:46:02] (21 seconds) Edit Clip

Jesus was the one who was obediently submitting to the Father. Jesus was not powerless. He was obedient. And church, that should resonate in your life so many ways through. You, you're not powerless when you're obedient. You are not powerless when you are obedient. In obedience to the will of the Father, not my will, but your will be done. Jesus went to a series of trials. And now this is going to be a little educational for us. We're going to go to the cross. He didn't just go to one trial. He went to six different trials before he gets led to the cross. Before they take him to the cross, he goes to six different trials. Let's look at where they are. Six different trials. He goes to Annas. [00:48:14] (22 seconds) Edit Clip

The trials were illegal. It was a travesty of justice. And let me give you some reasons why the trials of Jesus were completely out of bounds. According to some of the Jewish laws, we're talking about the first three amongst the high priests and the Sanhedrin. The first reason that they were illegal was Jesus was arrested by the judges. While he was on trial, as illegal and abusive as it was, they were beating him. They actually had blindfolded him and they would hit him in the face in front of the high priest, the religious leaders, the teachers of the law, and the elders. Men who were guarding Jesus began mocking him in the middle of the night. It's early. They keep accusing him. [00:55:25] (31 seconds) Edit Clip

We forget what he went through. We forget of his obedience. We forget of his cause that he suffered and was accused of. And took it so that you and I can have a relationship with the father. Never forget this. In front of Herod, Jesus stood there. And Herod plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave no answer. [00:56:39] (26 seconds) Edit Clip

Jesus was obedient to do the Father's will. Jesus was obedient at great cost. He wasn't just obedient when it was easy. He was obedient when it was hard. He was obedient and he had great restraint. He had great restraint. He did not retaliated. If there was ever anyone on earth who was innocent, it was Jesus. [01:02:41] (30 seconds) Edit Clip

Jesus' love, church, knows no bounds. Knows no bounds. What have you done? How could whatever you've done be greater than his love for you? It's impossible. It's impossible for your sin not to be forgiven by Jesus. It's impossible for your actions not to be paid for by his sacrifice. Accept him. Realize what he's done. Embrace his love. [01:04:05] (38 seconds) Edit Clip

Follow my example as I follow Christ. I follow Christ by obeying the Father's will. I follow Christ by practicing restraint. And I follow Christ by walking in humility. Church, that's what it means to follow my example as I follow Christ. May you, this week, be people who obey the Father's will. [01:05:13] (31 seconds) Edit Clip
