Embracing Change: Trusting God's Plan for Our Future

Summary

As I reflect on the dismantling of our church facility, I am reminded of the life of Joseph and the detours God orchestrated in his life. This building, purchased in the mid-80s, served as a hub for our children's programs, school, and technology center. Now, it is being torn down to make way for a new, larger facility called The Grove, which will offer classrooms, training, seminars, and fellowship. This transition mirrors the journey of Joseph, who faced numerous challenges and setbacks, including being falsely accused and imprisoned. Yet, these detours were part of God's plan to prepare him for a greater purpose.

Just as Joseph had to let go of his past to embrace his future, we too must be willing to release the old to make room for the new. God often dismantles our comfort zones and conveniences to construct something more relevant and impactful for our current circumstances. Holding onto yesterday can hinder our progress and prevent us from reaching the potential God has in store for us. Like Joseph, we may need to let go of past relationships, history, or even the wrongs done to us to fully experience God's plan.

As we witness the physical tearing down of our facility, we are reminded that God is also in the process of remodeling our lives. He removes impediments and tears down walls that no longer serve us, preparing us for a future that is bigger and better than our past. This process may be uncomfortable, but it is necessary for growth and transformation. We may discover hidden issues that need addressing, just as we found potential problems in the old building during its demolition.

Ultimately, God is leading us to a place of power, usefulness, and impact. As we say goodbye to the old facility, we embrace the new opportunities and possibilities that lie ahead. Trusting in God's plan, we can confidently move forward, knowing that He is guiding us toward a brighter future.

Key Takeaways:

1. Embrace the Detours: Just as Joseph's life was filled with unexpected detours, our lives may also take turns we didn't anticipate. 4. Discover Hidden Issues: During the demolition of our old facility, we discovered potential problems that needed addressing. Day 1: Navigating Life's Unexpected Detours
In life, we often encounter unexpected detours that can leave us feeling lost or confused. These detours, much like those in Joseph's life, are not without purpose. Joseph's journey was filled with challenges, from being sold into slavery by his brothers to being falsely accused and imprisoned. Yet, each of these setbacks was a stepping stone in God's greater plan for him. Similarly, the detours in our lives are often God's way of preparing us for a greater purpose. They may be uncomfortable and challenging, but they are essential for our growth and development. Trust that even in the midst of these challenges, God is working for your good and leading you to a place of impact. [01:02]

Genesis 50:20 (ESV): "As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today."

Reflection: Think of a recent detour in your life. How can you trust that God is using it to prepare you for something greater?

Day 2: Releasing the Past to Embrace the Future
Holding onto the past can prevent us from moving forward into the future God has planned for us. Just as Joseph had to let go of his past to embrace his future, we too must be willing to release what no longer serves us. This may mean letting go of past relationships, history, or even the wrongs done to us. God often dismantles our comfort zones and conveniences to construct something more relevant and impactful for our current circumstances. Be willing to release what no longer serves you to embrace the future God has planned. [02:12]

Isaiah 43:18-19 (ESV): "Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."

Reflection: What is one thing from your past that you need to let go of to fully embrace the future God has for you?

Day 3: Embracing God's Remodeling Process
Just as a building may need to be torn down to address hidden issues, God may need to remodel our lives to remove impediments. This process can be uncomfortable, but it is necessary for transformation and growth. During the demolition of our old facility, potential problems were discovered that needed addressing. Similarly, God may reveal hidden issues in our lives that require attention. Embrace this opportunity for healing and growth, knowing that God is preparing you for something greater. [02:43]

Jeremiah 18:4 (ESV): "And the vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter's hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to do."

Reflection: What hidden issue in your life might God be revealing to you right now? How can you address it with His guidance?

Day 4: Discovering and Addressing Hidden Issues
During the demolition of our old facility, we discovered potential problems that needed addressing. Similarly, God may reveal hidden issues in our lives that require attention. These issues, though hidden, can hinder our progress and prevent us from reaching the potential God has in store for us. Embrace this opportunity for healing and growth, knowing that God is leading you to a better place. Trust that God is preparing you for something greater. [03:16]

Psalm 139:23-24 (ESV): "Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!"

Reflection: What hidden issue in your life might God be revealing to you right now? How can you address it with His guidance?

Day 5: Trusting in God's Plan for a Brighter Future
As we transition from the old to the new, trust that God is guiding us toward a future that is bigger and better than our past. Embrace the opportunities and possibilities that lie ahead, knowing that God is leading you to a place of power, usefulness, and impact. This process may be uncomfortable, but it is necessary for growth and transformation. Trust in God's plan, and confidently move forward, knowing that He is guiding you toward a brighter future. [03:48]

Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV): "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."

Reflection: What is one area of your life where you need to trust God more fully? How can you take a step of faith in that area today?

Quotes

I can't help but think, as I look at the dismantling process, that this facility is going through about the life of Joseph and the various detours that God took him through that included some dismantling of his comfort level, some breaking down of his conveniences, in order to do something much bigger that God had in mind for him. [00:00:45]

God put him in the pit in order to take him to the palace. He was accused falsely of rape, which caused him to wind up being in prison, in order to get him to Egypt to teach him lessons in leadership so that he could fulfill his ultimate purpose and programing. [00:01:08]

We're going to have to tear some things down to get relevant to where we are today, and that's what God often has to do with us. He has to get rid of yesterday so we can move on to tomorrow. Because, if it keeps yesterday in place, then we can't build what we need here tomorrow. [00:01:42]

And if He keeps your yesterday in place, He can't take you to where He wants you to go tomorrow. So when He starts tearing things out, let Him, because He's trying to construct something brand-new, relevant, to the time you're living in, to the experiences you are having, and to the impact He wants you to make. [00:02:09]

We have to be willing to let go of some things in yesterday in order to get what He has for us tomorrow. Like Joseph, whether let go of some history, let go of some relationships, let go of some evil even that had been done to him, in order to experience what God had for him. [00:02:32]

God often has to remodel us, tear down some walls, remove some impediments, because what we had yesterday just doesn't fit for where He's taking us tomorrow. So as you look at the remodeling that's going on in your life, the detours—you had one plan and God comes up with another one—just realize God does it for good. [00:02:51]

So you can say like Joseph, "It may have been evil along the way, but you brought me to this place—a place of power, usefulness, and of impact." Yes, I'm getting ready to say goodbye to a facility that has done us good over a lot of years, but it's had it's inconveniences. [00:03:12]

In fact, as we tore it down, we found some things in that—whoa—I'm glad we were tearing you down because it could have caused some greater damage, just didn't know it. God is in the process of remodeling us, to tear down the old, to give us the new, because where He's taking you, where he's taking me, where he's taking us, is better and bigger than where we've come from.
