Embracing Boldness in Spiritual Warfare

Summary

In today's message, I explored the concept of spiritual warfare and the often-overlooked reality that as believers, we are engaged in a battle. Reflecting on the mindset of Americans during World War II, I drew parallels to how Christians today often perceive their faith. Many of us live as if we are not part of a spiritual war, thinking that the fight for the gospel is for pastors, evangelists, or believers in other parts of the world. However, when we accepted Christ, we enlisted in an army, and the Bible clearly states that we are in a spiritual battle. The temptations and challenges we face are not mere coincidences but are part of this ongoing war against a real enemy.

I emphasized the importance of recognizing our role in this battle and the need for boldness in our faith, as exemplified by Jesus in Luke 20. Jesus faced opposition from religious leaders who questioned His authority, yet He remained steadfast in His mission, preaching the gospel and challenging the status quo. His boldness serves as a model for us to speak the truth in love, regardless of the consequences.

Furthermore, I shared the story of a vineyard owner and his son, illustrating how God sent prophets and ultimately His Son, Jesus, to call people back to Him. Despite rejection and persecution, the message of salvation through Christ remains central. This parable serves as a reminder of the consequences of rejecting God's message and the grace extended to us through Jesus.

I also challenged the congregation to consider their personal beliefs about Jesus. It's crucial to move beyond societal or familial influences and truly reflect on who Jesus is to each of us. This introspection is vital as it shapes our faith and our willingness to be bold in proclaiming the gospel.

Finally, I encouraged everyone to embrace the boldness that comes with being a follower of Christ. Baptism, as an outward declaration of faith, exemplifies this boldness. In many parts of the world, this act can lead to persecution, yet it remains a powerful testament to one's commitment to Christ.

Day 1: Recognizing the Reality of Spiritual Warfare
As believers, we are engaged in a spiritual battle that is often overlooked. The challenges and temptations we face are not mere coincidences but are part of a larger war against a real enemy. This awareness is crucial for staying vigilant and committed to our faith. Just as soldiers in a physical war must be aware of their surroundings and the strategies of their adversaries, Christians must recognize the spiritual forces at play in their lives. By understanding that we are part of this spiritual warfare, we can better prepare ourselves to stand firm in our faith and resist the enemy's schemes. [02:25]

Ephesians 6:12 (ESV): "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places."

Reflection: What specific temptations or challenges are you currently facing that might be part of this spiritual battle? How can you prepare yourself spiritually to confront them today?

Day 2: Embracing Boldness in Faith
Jesus exemplified boldness by preaching the gospel despite opposition from religious leaders. As followers of Christ, we are called to speak the truth in love, even when it is unpopular or risky. This boldness is essential in living out our faith authentically. By looking at Jesus' example in Luke 20, we see how He remained steadfast in His mission, challenging the status quo and proclaiming the gospel. This same boldness is available to us as we rely on the Holy Spirit to guide and empower us in our daily lives. [09:14]

Acts 4:29-31 (ESV): "And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus."

Reflection: In what areas of your life do you feel called to be bolder in your faith? What steps can you take today to speak the truth in love, even when it is challenging?

Day 3: Personal Reflection on Jesus
It's crucial to personally reflect on who Jesus is to us, beyond societal or familial influences. This introspection shapes our faith and our willingness to be bold in proclaiming the gospel. By examining our personal beliefs about Jesus, we can deepen our relationship with Him and strengthen our commitment to living out His teachings. This reflection is not a one-time event but an ongoing process that requires honesty and openness to the Holy Spirit's guidance. [17:04]

Matthew 16:15-16 (ESV): "He said to them, 'But who do you say that I am?' Simon Peter replied, 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.'"

Reflection: Who is Jesus to you personally, and how does this understanding influence your daily life and decisions? Take time today to reflect on your relationship with Him.

Day 4: Understanding the Parable of the Vineyard
The story of the vineyard owner and his son illustrates God's persistent call to His people and the consequences of rejecting His message. Despite rejection and persecution, the message of salvation through Christ remains central. This parable serves as a reminder of the grace extended to us through Jesus and the importance of accepting it. By understanding this parable, we can appreciate the depth of God's love and the seriousness of our response to His call. [25:04]

Isaiah 5:1-2 (ESV): "Let me sing for my beloved my love song concerning his vineyard: My beloved had a vineyard on a very fertile hill. He dug it and cleared it of stones, and planted it with choice vines; he built a watchtower in the midst of it, and hewed out a wine vat in it; and he looked for it to yield grapes, but it yielded wild grapes."

Reflection: How have you responded to God's call in your life? Are there areas where you have resisted or rejected His message? Consider how you can embrace His grace more fully today.

Day 5: Baptism as an Act of Boldness
Baptism is a public declaration of faith and an act of boldness. It symbolizes dying to our old selves and rising anew in Christ. In many parts of the world, this act can lead to persecution, yet it remains a powerful testament to one's commitment to Christ. By participating in baptism, believers demonstrate their willingness to follow Jesus wholeheartedly, regardless of the cost. This bold step of faith is a reminder of the transformative power of the gospel and the new life we have in Christ. [41:04]

Colossians 2:12 (ESV): "Having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead."

Reflection: If you have been baptized, reflect on the significance of that moment in your life. If you have not, consider what baptism would mean for you and how it could be a bold step in your faith journey.

Quotes

to me that we can forget that we are at war in fact this week I was reading some stuff on the internet about World War 2 and and it was really cool it was very surprising though they they were talking about how the mentality of people in America during World War II was so different than it is right now [00:00:06]

most people that go to church in America do not think of themselves as being in a spiritual war we don't think about ourselves as being a part of this spiritual war this battle we just think well you know what there's there's pastors evangelists they fight for the gospel they fight for what's right [00:01:34]

I enlisted and I became a Believer I I joined an Army and the Bible says that there's spiritual warfare going on that all those Temptations this week that hit you they weren't coincidental you know it wasn't just oh geez I wonder why that Temptation came up I wonder why this person my family is being dragged away from God [00:02:07]

you know just some crime stuff going on just just keep your keep them in your prayers as well um you know it's all the the kids you know like the choir kids you saw you know and just heading over to camp and just to to see all that and the trauma and things like that but it just constantly reminds me man there's just such [00:05:39]

do you want want okay do you want to be a part of this spiritual war I don't have to answer it I just want you to think in your mind to yourself do you want to SP spend your life fighting for the things of God and for people and their souls their salvation or is it your desire to just [00:06:13]

and you've got to understand there is a there is nothing more bothersome to Satan and the demons than the preaching of the Gospel the good news okay the enemy hates that more than anything the good news what I'm about to do in the next 2 minutes there is nothing that they hate more than what I'm about to [00:09:10]

and maybe the best thing I could do this morning is to ask you the same question who is Jesus who do you you I don't care about your mother your I don't care about them I don't care what they think I'm just saying you regardless of your kids regardless of what's popular in this room regardless of all your friends if I [00:17:01]

Jesus what he this man made some claims about himself he said look I am the way I am the truth I am the life and no one comes to the father except through me that's pretty bold statement he says look I'm the way I'm the way to heaven I'm the way to God the father and no one [00:18:56]

Jesus is going to speak the truth regardless of consequences he's not like the the religious leaders go ooh this might get us killed let's not say that Jesus goes this is going to get me killed but this is the truth and and and what he says to the people here is he warns the people against the religious leaders standing right there [00:21:44]

this this thread if you want to call it this or or this warning is an act of Grace for example yesterday I was at the mall with my two little girls my girls know two of my little girls I got three of now two of my little girls we're we're at the mall and uh and they know at the mall [00:22:42]

God takes care of this land and you know and lets us live there serve there you know and and what he did was every once in a while he would send a prophet a messenger these prophets men sent from God with a message from God coming to the people saying hey you know what give God what's do him you know live [00:27:48]

baptism was really you got to understand when a person got baptized in that day it was the ultimate Act of boldness in fact Jesus says this is the first command this is the first thing I want you to do once you decide to believe in me once you decide to follow me I want you to get publicly I want you [00:40:37]
