Embrace Your Cocoon: Transforming Challenges into Growth
Summary
In life, we often find ourselves in situations that feel beyond our control, much like my experiences as a former NFL player. There were moments of triumph on the field, but also times when I was injured and felt overwhelmed by circumstances. These moments, however, were not just setbacks; they were opportunities for transformation, akin to a caterpillar entering a cocoon. This cocoon phase is a time for growth and preparation, a chance to emerge stronger and more equipped for the challenges ahead.
When I was sidelined, I used the time to delve deeper into the playbook, ask questions, and study game tapes. This period of reflection and learning was invaluable. Similarly, in our spiritual lives, we are given the opportunity to retreat into our cocoons, to study God's Word, and to seek wisdom from others. This is a time to prepare ourselves for the impact we are meant to have in the world.
The cocoon is not a place of stagnation but a space for leveling up. It is crucial to use this time wisely, to prepare for the moment when we are called back onto the field of life. Through technology and the wealth of resources available, we can learn from others and gain new perspectives. This preparation is essential because, without impact, there is no real game being played. We must be ready to make a difference, to be impactful in our communities and beyond. Embrace your cocoon, and get ready for the impact you are destined to make.

Quotes
As a former player in the NFL, I had times where I was really excited because things were going well on the field, but then there are circumstances that were outside of my control that would happen. I was carted off the field several times, I was hurt, I was booed as I was getting carted off. I felt buried down in the situation because all of these negative things were happening when positive things seemed to be growing, and it ended up being a time for me where I could be in a cocoon. [00:00:00]
When a caterpillar goes into a cocoon, it's just because there's gonna be a transformation that takes place. This is an opportunity for transformation. This is an opportunity that we're in right now. We're all put in our cocoons because we've been injured by something that we can't control. And yes, we feel bad, and yes, we have the anxiety, but if you take the opportunity like I did when I was playing, I just had time to get in the playbook. [00:00:28]
I just had time to ask my coaches questions about things that I didn't understand while I was playing. I had time to study the game tape so that I can see what my opponent was trying to do, and right now that's the most important currency that we have. In the cocoon, you have time that you didn't have when you were on the field. You can actually go back and look at the game tape. [00:00:50]
You can go back and assess how you were playing before you were put in this situation. You can go back to the book, God's Word, which gives you the ability to execute once the ref blows the whistle again and puts us on the field. And, most importantly, through technology, there's all of these different preachers and people who have great perspective who can help us learn how to execute when the time comes. [00:01:11]
And so, I want you to take advantage, like I once had to take advantage as a player, when you're in this cocoon it's time to level up. It's not time to go down. It's not time to sit, soak, and sour. It's time to prepare yourself for impact. Because if there's no impact on the football field, there's not really a game that's being played. Get ready for impact, so take advantage of your cocoon.
