### Quotes for Outreach

1. "It's important you understand that the Sermon on the Mount is not a list of rules that you have to follow if you want to go to heaven. And you have to perfectly obey the Sermon on the Mount and do everything that Jesus asked for you to do. If not, you cannot be saved. And so it's not that. It's not a list of rules. It's not all that. It's actually bigger than that. What's the Sermon on the Mount all about? It's really all about life in the kingdom. This is really what Jesus intended to bring to us. He wanted you and I to see and to know and realize what kingdom life is all about." [56:42](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

2. "Jesus' primary message was the kingdom. In fact, it was the number one thing he talked about. He talked about a lot of things. You read through the teachings of Jesus, Matthew, Mark, and Luke, and John, the four gospels that detail Jesus' life and his ministry and his death, and his resurrection, and his parting words. And you see, he talked about a lot of things. Disciples, making disciples, loving people, forgiveness, hell, heaven, all that kind of stuff. The number one thing he talked about was kingdom. That was his number one topic. If that's the number one thing he talked about, it's probably important that you and I understand what Jesus meant by kingdom, right? Wouldn't you say?" 3. "Jesus didn't just come to die on the cross to forgive you of your sins. That's not the only reason he came. He came to bring the kingdom. He came to usher in a whole new way of living for you and me. And so I'll give you five things to help you remember what the kingdom gospel is. Kingdom gospel. My sister and niece just walked into it, so it's good to see my sister and niece that are here in town. man, Jesus, me, kingdom. Those five words help you remember the holistic picture of the kingdom gospel. God, man, Jesus, me, kingdom." [01:05:07](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

4. "So Jesus says, hey guys, I have been given all authority. All authority in the entire universe belongs to me. So now I'm giving it to you. Go. And what does he say? Go and make disciples. So you and I have been delegated authority from Jesus to go live in authority. To go announce the kingdom gospel in authority. To go advance the kingdom with authority. You and I do this in humility but also in authority because Jesus gave us that authority. Which means you have power. It is not your power. It is his power." 5. "So Jesus is telling a story about two different people who build two different houses. And the houses are actually the same. The only thing that's different between the houses is the foundation. So they didn't build two different houses. There wasn't one house that was better built than the other. And one house that was stronger and had better structure. Both houses seemingly are built the same. The only difference is the foundation. And the foundation rests solely upon this one thing. Obedience." [01:28:53](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

### Quotes for Members

1. "So what is the Sermon on the Mount all about? And if you read through it, you quickly realize, wow, Jesus. This is hard teaching. There's no way I can live up to this. Who can actually live up to this? There's no way. And that's kind of the point is we'll talk about that in the coming weeks. But it's important you understand that the Sermon on the Mount is not a list of rules that you have to follow if you want to go to heaven. He wanted you and I to see and to know and realize what kingdom life is all about." [55:54](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

2. "So Jesus, in this kingdom manifesto that we call the Sermon on the Mount, is really giving us a different way to approach life. He's calling us to live. He's calling us to live differently, to think differently, right here, to act differently. It's really a whole new way of living. If you're going to live in the kingdom of heaven, then you're going to look different than people who live in the kingdom of this world. And those are the two choices, by the way. You and I can either live as a part of the kingdom of this world or as a part of the kingdom of heaven, of his kingdom. And so if we live a part of his kingdom, then we're going to look different. We're going to think different. We're going to act differently. We have different values. Kingdom people have different priorities. They pursue different things than worldly kingdom people." 3. "So to live in the kingdom requires humility, like I said. But to advance the kingdom requires authority. And I believe Jesus wants you to walk in humility and authority. He has both for you. So we have to have a confidence in who he is, what he's done for us. It's a confidence in Jesus and ourself. And in that, knowing that we can walk in his authority. Jesus gave us authority. Did you know that? You have his delegated authority. You can walk in his authority. You can be confident in that." [01:24:42](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

It is his power. You don't walk around in weakness or timidity or just shy or like people are going to make fun of me and look down on me. You don't have to think like that or act like that. You can walk around with confidence and authority because of who he is. And because his message is the greatest message that anybody needs to know. Everybody needs to hear. We should not be ashamed of the gospel. So you have an authority that Jesus has given you." [01:26:37](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)

5. Obedience. And so Jesus gets to the end of the Sermon on the Mount. I mean there's deep stuff in there. There is hard stuff to understand. There is hard stuff to follow. There are things in the Sermon on the Mount that just go against our nature. Like you have to forgive people. Like what if I don't want to forgive people Jesus. I don't feel like forgiving people. No you got to forgive people. If you want to be people in my kingdom that's what you do. Like okay Jesus I need your help. I need your help doing this. There's so many things in there. Like you can never look at anyone lustfully. You've committed adultery. What? And so you realize as you read through this like this is tough teaching. This is why it's important for us to understand what he's talking about. And at the very end Jesus says so here's the goal. The goal is that you guys go and live this out. Go obey. That's the goal. This is the whole way he ends the sermon. Which by the way as I think is a good goal for any sermon. Like as we walk out of this place. I hope you didn't just learn new things. That was interesting Tyrone. I'm really glad you talked about that passage. I just needed to understand that better. The goal is not understanding. The goal is not for you and I to dissect the theological magnificence of the Sermon on the Mount. Maybe you can. Maybe you will. Awesome. But the goal really is that you and I just live it. Because remember Jesus wants us to look like him. To think like him. And to live like him. And so he gives us this kingdom manifesto. You want to live in the kingdom? Great. Let me show you what it's like. This is what the people do in the kingdom. Now you go do it. Go and obey everything I've talked about. And so you've got two different houses. And the only difference is the foundation. And the difference between those two is disobedience and obedience. You and I are called to take the teachings of Jesus. And not just believe in them. But to apply them to our life. And obey them. Obedience, what you and I find, brings strength to our life. Obedience brings strength. How do I know? Because Jesus told us right here. Storms are going to hit you in life. Have you noticed? Life's going to get hard. Things will hit you. And then another storm will come. And then another storm will come. And then a monsoon will come. And then another storm will come. And storms. What's going to sustain you through the storms? It's not how strong your house is. It's how strong your foundation is. And that rests solely upon your obedience to Jesus. Can I trust Jesus and walk in obedience no matter what hits me in life? That's the goal. And Jesus says those who obey will last. If you can obey me no matter what you go through. Yeah, you're going to mess up. There's no way we're going to live the sermon on the mount perfectly. You ask for forgiveness. You walk in his grace. And you keep growing in obedience. As you and I keep going the trajectory of obeying Jesus, you and I will last until the very end. That's what Jesus is saying. The disciples that last are the ones that obey. The ones that disobey, they're going to get taken out by the storms. And they won't make it. And maybe some of you have been there before. Maybe you have some friends, some family members that have been taken out by storms. And gone. They don't believe anymore. It's over because life hit them too hard. See, your foundation matters. And the foundation is obedience. And obedience brings strength. It brings strength to your relationship with Jesus. And it brings strength to your life. And it sets you up for this long haul of just enjoying life in the kingdom of Jesus. So that you can enjoy life fully in the kingdom of Jesus when he rolls and reigns fully and completely here forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever. But it comes back to this thing called obedience. Obedience." [01:28:53](Download raw clip | Download cropped clip)
