I highlighted the need for transformation in our lives, stressing that being part of the church is more than just attending services or being part of a building. It's about being a community of people who are transformed from the inside by Christ's rule in our lives. I also pointed out the danger of stagnation in our spiritual growth, urging the congregation to seek growth and maturity in their faith. Devotional
Day 1: God's Provision for the Church
God's provision for the church is not limited to spiritual gifts and blessings. It also includes His grace, strength, and faithfulness. He enriches us, keeps us strong until the end, and ensures we are blameless on the day of the Lord Jesus. However, His provision also includes the desire to work in our lives and transform our character from the inside out ([37:39]).
1 Corinthians 1:4-9 - "I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. For in him you have been enriched in every way—with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge— God thus confirming our testimony about Christ among you. Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord."
Reflection: How have you experienced God's provision in your life and how has it transformed your character?
Day 2: The Church as the Pillar of Truth
The church is called to live out the truth, not just speak it. Our actions should align with our words, reflecting the truth of the Gospel in our daily lives. This is crucial for maintaining our testimony in the community and distinguishing ourselves from the world ([46:21]).
1 Timothy 3:15 - "if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth."
Reflection: How are you living out the truth of the Gospel in your daily life?
Day 3: The Need for Spiritual Growth
Spiritual growth is essential for every believer. If we remain stagnant in our faith, we miss out on what God can do and wants to do in our lives. God desires to transform us from the inside out, renewing our minds and hearts ([47:35]).
Ephesians 4:15 - "Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ."
Reflection: In what areas of your life do you need to experience spiritual growth?
Day 4: The Importance of the Local Church
The local church is at the heart of God's plan. Despite its imperfections, we are called to love and fight for the church just as Christ did. The church is a place for growth, transformation, and community ([32:00]).
Ephesians 5:25 - "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her."
Reflection: How can you actively love and serve your local church?
Day 5: The Process of Transformation
We are all in a process of transformation. Whether we are new to the faith or have been believers for a long time, there are always areas in our lives that need to be surrendered to God. This process is a testament to God's amazing grace and faithfulness ([33:28]).
Romans 12:2 - "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."
Reflection: What areas of your life do you need to surrender to God for transformation?
Quotes
1. "God has called us to holy living. We can't just say I'm a Christian and live the way we want. When it comes to sexuality, how we do business, what comes out of our mouth, our behavior, how we treat others, it all has to come under Christ." - 49:38
2. "God supernaturally gave us a love for the church. The church is beautiful, it's a beautiful mess. We are all in a process of being transformed by God. There's some of us that are new to the faith and we need a place to grow." - 32:46
3. "God wants to work in my life and he wants to work in my character. It's not because we're loved by God that God doesn't want to change me and renew me. As much as God loves us, he wants to bring transformation in my heart and transformation in your heart." - 39:02
4. "We find God's provision for the church. God is faithful, we can be enriched, he will keep us until the end, we have spiritual gifts and there's Grace given to us. But there's one thing that we need to remember is that God wants to work in my life." - 38:22
5. "The last thing we want to be as hypocrites. The last thing we want to live by is saying one thing and living the opposite. Putting pressure on people on performance and seeing how they should be and how they should live, and us not living it." - 49:00
