Day 1: When Kingdom Questions Distract
The disciples gathered around risen Jesus, still fixated on earthly power. After 40 days of kingdom teaching, they asked: “Lord, will you restore Israel’s kingdom now?” Their eyes lingered on Roman occupation, not eternal purpose. Jesus redirected them: “You’ll receive power when the Spirit comes. Be my witnesses to the ends of the earth.”[15:20]
Political solutions blinded them to spiritual mission. Jesus didn’t condemn their concern, but revealed higher priorities. The Spirit’s power matters more than overthrowing governments. Kingdom-building happens through transformed hearts, not regime changes.
How often do you fixate on changing external systems while neglecting your witness? When news cycles stir anxiety, hear Jesus’ redirect: “You’ll be my witnesses.” What earthly concern most distracts you from eternal priorities today?
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
(Acts 1:8, NIV)
Prayer: Ask Jesus to refocus your heart when political anxieties arise.
Challenge: Write down one “kingdom question” distracting you. Pray over it for 2 minutes.
