“``They were looking for a great, beautiful, Goliath type figure who would come and kick out the Romans. And the great irony of history is that God did not choose to save the world through that image, that outward picture of what leadership could be. Did you know that the Bible doesn't provide us any kind of description of Jesus? And there's a reason why it does that is because God knows how kind of fickle the human heart can be. The bible says that he came as a what? A suffering servant. And he didn't come and disarm the Romans and kick them out and establish the kingdom. He came and he died upon a cross and disarmed the enemies of sin and Satan and death so that we could be free.”

“Here's the reality. Our words matter. The words that come out of your life matter. There's two types of people because there's two types of speech. There's life giving speech and they're they're life breathers, and there's death breathing speech, and they are death breathers. In your mouth is the power of life death. And what does he say? Fools are destroyed by their what? Their words. Do you know what has the ability to undermine people's giftedness? Do you know what has the ability to undermine people's families, undermine churches, undermine lives, undermine businesses? It is the power of their what? Words.”

“What gifts have you been given? And then my second question is simply this, are you using your gifts? If you are not using your gifts that God has entrusted to you, if you are lighting the lamp and putting it under a bushel, if you are sidelining your gifts, you are like a snake charmer who is allowing snakes to bite people. And my encouragement to you this morning is to use your gifts. No matter what gifts you've been given, don't sideline your gifts. Why? Because God has entrusted each and every person in this room with gifts. This church functions because people use their what? Their gifts. If everybody said, I'm not gonna use my gift, what would happen? It doesn't work. Does it make sense? When everybody uses their gifts, something great is able to happen. So are you somebody right now who's taken the gifts that God has entrusted to you, taken your knowledge, taken your wisdom, and sidelined it? Solomon is warning against that.”

“We have the ability to speak life or death. So we have a choice. We can speak life giving words, faith filled words, faithful words, honest words, God glorifying words, edifying words and find what? Find approval, but not just approval for human beings, approvals from God. Or we can use our words and just use potty words or whatever we want to just let fly out of our mouth and what does it say is going to happen? Some people think they're getting ahead because they have no filter. Some people think they have are getting ahead because they have no muzzle and they have to say whatever they think. But what does he say? He says, fools are actually gonna be what? Destroyed by their own words.”
