“You'll never appreciate the gospel. You'll never be excited by the good news of the gospel until you admit this. See, what Jesus did is he took the fate that you deserve. Jesus took the worms of death as if he deserved it. For all who receive Christ, instead of God's judgment upon you, Jesus was judged upon the cross. Instead of worms, instead of an ending, a tragic ending of being eaten by worms, you're made to be royalty with the promise of a new body that will be raised into paradise. By grace, by grace, instead of eternal death, you get eternal life. This is what it means to be a Christian. This is the gift you receive as a Christian, when you receive the gift of Jesus Christ.”

“The book of Romans says, all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. The reason we fall short of his glory is because we haven't cared about his glory. We've only cared about our own glory as we measure it by the measurements of this world. Romans goes on to say that the wages of this sin is death, eternal death for those who have committed this sin, and it's every one of us. Don't you see, as we look at this tragic story of Herod, what we're seeing is a picture of what should be the tragic story and ending of every human being to go down with the worms into eternal death. We deserve the same fate as Herod and you'll never know how good the good news is unless you believe that.”
