“But that is the point. The point is not that any of this is easy. The point is that every one of us recognizes that it is difficult and we keep bringing ourselves back to being shaped by this teaching of the church which calls us to something more than what the world calls us to. We hear today that God is always merciful. His mercy is never ending. And what we come to realize in that is that that mercy is what allows us to continue to bring ourselves back to the gospel again and again and again. And recognizing you know what I fell short this way or I fell short that way or I didn't quite do this the way that I really wish I could have. We know that we are loved in that moment.”

“The struggle we have is real but the fruits of that struggle are also real. If we trust that God and God's mercy continues to teach us how to grow into something more, into a greater expression of Christ's love for us. And so this week as you go out into the world, remember that yes we are called to live in this world and recognize it is good and it is in this world that we work out our salvation. But also we need to die to parts of this world that stop us from more fully embodying the grace of the gospel in our lives.”

“This is a real conflict that each one of us faces as we are trying to embody the law and the spirit. The grace for us and the thing that we must take with us though is this. Is that even as we are trying to live this out ourselves, we recognize that maybe one of the reasons it's hard for us to say what the church teaches or always be with it is because we have difficulty living it ourselves. But that is the point. The point is not that any of this is easy. The point is that every one of us recognizes that it is difficult and we keep bringing ourselves back to being shaped by this teaching of the church which calls us to something more than what the world calls us to.”
