#ServantLeadership
“But Paul's claim is that in the resurrection of Jesus, this power struggle in history hasn't been inverted, it's been subverted. That there is a new kind of power. It's a power that doesn't sit on a throne but comes off of the throne and puts a towel around its waist and washes feet. It's a power that hangs on a cross offering forgiveness. It doesn't put people on a cross who are its enemies. This is a kind of power that breaks down the dividing walls that exist between humans so that unity and peace can be realized. It's a whole different way of working that Jesus' resurrection makes available.”

#TroublemakersToPeacemakers
“But what Paul is saying is that the the announcement Jesus and how Jesus works through grace and peace is that Jesus transforms troublemakers into peacemakers. That we were all of humanity was at one point an enemy of God. Not because God had something against us, but because we had something against God, because humans turned away from God. And in Jesus, God is reconciling, making peace with everyone everywhere through Jesus. And that's the invitation to you wherever you are today on your spiritual journey, that the grace of God is present to you, is available to you, and can change everything for you.”

“Do something for them that, in your opinion, they don't deserve. But you're gonna do it anyways. Because that is how God in Christ treats your relationship. We have a challenging relationship with Jesus, but we are the challenge. And Jesus is the one who is graciously extending relationship and and and and peace to us in every moment of every day and invites us to do the same for others.”

#TruePeace
“we need to consider, like, is the story that we're living in delivering the peace that it promises? in the same way that Artemis was a powerful story in Ephesus, we have our own stories in our own moment, and we all are living according to some story that is promising us some vision of peace. But the the problem is that for... And you know this, these stories overpromise and they underdeliver. They cannot ultimately provide the peace that they promise, the good life that they say they can. And if if if we can be honest, like, it's okay to admit that and say that that just... That story didn't work, but there is a a true and better story that can deliver on the peace that it it promises.”

#GiftOfLife
“And what Paul is saying is actually what is most about the world, about reality, about your reality is that the creator of the cosmos from whom all of humanity has turned away and attempted a a sort of cosmic in... Insurrection to take control of the throne of the universe through exerting our own preferences and priorities through our own lives. This god deals with humanity, not with vengeance or retribution or being vindictive or violent or or or even with a a sense of dropping the cosmic hammer of justice. But instead, god's disposition towards humanity is that of giving humans something that they have not earned or deserve, and that thing is life. Both that is eternal in both its quantity and its quality.”

#ForgivenessOverViolence
“But this piece that Paul is talking about is exemplified in Jesus on the cross. Rather than extending or pushing violence out into the world to... For God's will and way to have a foothold in the world, Jesus takes violence in on himself and does not respond with retribution or vengeance, but instead with forgiveness and mercy and grace and love for anybody who would recognize what is happening in and through Jesus' grace and peace.”

#ChooseGrace
“And finally, for others of us, my invitation to you is to identify one challenging relationship that you have and then do something gracious for that person this week. Do something for them that, in your opinion, they don't deserve. But you're gonna do it anyways. Because that is how God in Christ treats your relationship.”

#KingdomOfGod
“And what Paul is saying here is that even though it looks and appears and in a very real sense is in this moment that the powerful and the rich have all of the power and all of the money and all of the authority. That in the end, Jesus is the supreme authority and power. And even in this moment that Jesus is more powerful than those in power. But he works with a different kind of power, a different operating system for how the world works. It's fundamentally different And though we experience the tension of this world as it is not yet going to be, we live, followers of Jesus live under a different authority. We answer to somebody different, which is why Paul is sitting in a Roman jail cell.”
